When I talk about poseidra being a starter, it’s only going second (for the most part! Other than click & echo shenanigans, the 2nd effect is only cooking for you going 2nd. This is what the deck needed anyway, so I’m ok with it🫡
Honestly, between this new card and the xyz releasing in ROTA Mermails might actually be a decent going 2nd OTK deck. All they would need is something like Sangen Summoning or Ancient Gear Fortress to give them protection.
Definitely feels like these cards were supposed to be in a structure deck but for whatever reason they weren't able to launch it so they just split the cards into the core sets.
Could be something as simple as “We gotta fill out these sets, but not enough time. Why don’t we just use the water structure deck cards we were sitting on”
they probably felt it was weird since the og was mostly just umi stuff and atlanteans. it's part of the reason why the gemini structure didn't come to the tcg since it randomly had infernobles that really do there own thing rather than support the gemini strategy
@@royalnickle i'm aware of that i mostly said it for the tcg end and why that could be a reason for why the atlantean structure got canceled since it was less doing it's own thing and more just supporting other stuff to be merged in. granted i don't know what konami thinks with these things even tho it should be easy for them to make a lot more structure decks in general.
I don’t know, possibly drawing 3 cards off a trap that you can get for free is pretty good. I see what you are saying but mermail is pretty “resilient” going first and can usually end on a good board though handtraps especially with this new support but only time will tell. Love the content!
Especially since the strategy discards during your turn and the whole deck is nearly engine so drawing 3 can set you up extremely nicely. Since you can extend with the xyz, then overlay into the other xyz, then link off you can gain a lot more advantage
basically Atlantean-Mermail now got an unofficial Structure Deck R boost, with 8 new cards total as opposed to Fire King also got 8 new cards in previous SDR
theres an interesting line where you make the new new XYZ set the new trap with its effect then overlay into the other new XYZ and when it leaves the field you can ensure you have all three types to activate it on your opponents turn. Not sure how viable that is but its there.
Abysslacia OR abyssrgine discard shadow squad, get their effects - shadow squad summon new poseidra from and that get chainblocked by Neptabyss to grab an equip is how you get this guy out during your opponents turn
The trap isn't all that bad since drawing up to 3 means you could fish (heh) for handtraps. The other abyss traps are meh, one summons from one gives 1k attack but float's into being a non-destruction send to GY 1 opponent's monster. Another is non-destruction Heavy Storm if you have Umi up, and the other two are a summon from deck and triple call of the haunted respectively. Only downside is both summon the monsters negated and the summon from deck locks you out of spells till opponent's End phase
So yeah, there was definitely a Structure Deck R supposed to be but they canceled it and put the cards in two core sets back to back. Count these waves, they are exactly the number of cards that would be new in a structure deck….
Honestly, I feel like Abyss-Team is underrated. The biggest issue with Atlantean/Mermail, in my eyes, is if your opponent breaks your board, you’re almost guaranteed to not have a follow up play. This mitigates that greatly.
My first yugioh deck was the 2012 Poseidra structure deck, so seeing support for the archetype might convince me to get back into the game. I kinda started losing interest when pendulum monsters became the big thing
Hmm, the new main deck poseidra should have been a quick effect like High Avatar Kirin. Then it would be a great going second card but it is not. Extremely missed opportunity.
Ffs. If the summoning condition on poseidra was a quick effect this card would be so much more interesting. These decks NEED ways to use their 40 engine cards in the opponents turn one, otherwise they are unplayable as long as the one card combo exists.
I believe you are forgetting something important. Mermail has a Rank 7 themselves that is actually pretty busted going second. I actually have seen builds OTK through a full snake eye combo.
This means we will not have a Structure Deck R this year? Some people are saying that they cancel the Atlantean Structure R and then put the cards in the main collections '-'

Some ideas I have in mind for that last piece of text in the list are: 1. a handtrap that banishes a Metaphys monster before your first turn even begins along with a grave effect that search up the Metaphys monster you need, 2. the same handtrap premise but it's a monster that banishes itself as cost or part of the effect to do something like Set a Metaphys Spell/Trap from the Deck that can be activated that turn or places one of their Continuous Spell/Traps face-up from the Deck to the Spell & Trap Zone (maybe be given as options) & Specials a Metaphys from Deck when shuffled into the Deck during Standby, 3. vise-versa of "2." which would be a lot better, & 4. as you play during the 2nd turn of the Duel the monster would provide some GY banishment for the Metaphys monsters and Special Summoning a Metaphys monster from hand or GY.
