For reasons you describe, this could be a good choice in standard trim. Unfortunately these cars tend to be used by clowns who think they should be heard with their noisy, modified exhaust systems as they drive through residential areas, like mine!
Hello Joseph , This is the sort of car you would buy new , back when it was new , you would have to be prepared to keep for ten years or more and to look after it to get your moneys worth out of it .

Sadly a meh car. Suffer rust. Drive so so ok. As a seller. In motor trade. Just well. Terrible. Even as AWD in Pearl white mica metallic. They just struggle sell. But hey ho. To be fair unless see ice or snow regular a MK2.5 Focus 1.6 zetec petrol much better car 07/57 or 0808 on
Very unusual car, especially in this more standard form. Quite nice to drive, actually, with a surprising amount of power. Not keen on the rust or the seemingly low quality interior, however, but really privileged to have had a go in such a rare car.

The rust tends to kill off lots of these, they are not common in standard form like this at all.

The saloon versions are quite rare in New Zealand too.
They didn't sell the saloon version of this generation over here from what I understand.

In New Zealand Subarus are thought of as either boy racer or Farmer's cars (The latter sector would appreciate high ratios on our terrain!).
This one was used by someone who needed the 4WD traction from what I understand.

I don't even think Subaru bothered with you know what engines. Boxers are made for speed not waste disposal vehicles.

Fuel economy not great on these and no real stand out qualities apart from the 4WD and reliability.
You'd have to be a die hard Subaru fan to buy one.
