I'm reading Fogerty's autobiography now. He was experiencing James Brown from the front row from an early age, and listening, hard, to EVERYONE else making the best music at the time. Deeply steeped in motown, R&B, funk, gospel, as well as early rock.
Oh yes, CCR is so excellent that you have heard their music EVERYWHERE! Movies, TV, sporting events, commercials and more. These guys are still touring and playing. ❤
Find the Video, boats cruising down the bayou, hound dogs howling, baby alligators hatching & getting to the water to swim for the first time, it is a great CCR video ( without the band in it !) just this fantastic song taking you thru the bayou country 😂
DREW, FYI: In 1969, as John Lingan notes in his new book, “A Song for Everyone,” Creedence Clearwater Revival even reportedly achieved “something that no other group had done in America since 1964: They outsold the Beatles.”
One of the odd things about Fogerty's voice is how effortless it sounds. It's so raw with emotion that you would expect to hear him straining. He also has near-perfect vocal technique while never sounding rehearsed or calculated. These raw performances just seems to flow out of him like holy water. The CCR band is consistently awesome, even if Fogerty was "90%" of their success. It's too bad the tension with Fogerty eventually busted them up.
Love CCR and their style of music, as well! And love your reactions to some of my favorite singers and groups! And speaking of soulful singers like John Fogerty, I would love to see you do more reactions to one of my all-time favorites, Janis Joplin! If you haven't done them already: Cry Baby and Tell Mama (live video, Festival Express), Get it While You Can and To Love Somebody ( Dick Cavett Show). Thank you!
It’s like a gut punch. It feels like forever, but then it’s over. That has to be the best description I’ve ever heard of their music Thanks for this reaction 🔥🔥🔥
man you in my Roots now! I was around 13, this was everywhere, I was an Air Force brat living in Hawaii, Viet Nam was still goin on, crazy times but so special... Keep bein you bro
I was born in the Philippines in the late 60's and lived there until early 80's, Navy Brat. But not in Subic, I lived in the province. CCR and 3 Dog night were played a lot on the radio. Whenever this song comes on I remember the never-ending rice fields I would walk through at times with my dad. I guess my form of the Bayou lol
You cannot live in the U.S. for any amount of time and not hear a CCR tune in a movie or on an TV advertisement. They are steeped in our collective pop culture.
Picture this: March 1969, Fillmore West in San Francisco. CCR is top of the bill with Jethro Tull and Sanpaku (inorite?) opening for them. I was there. Bayou Country had been released in January. Underground FM stations in the Bay Area were playing this cut in full. It was a great time to be 19 years old.
Heres whats MIND BOGGLING.. credence put out 6 albums in 3 years.. many bands dont do 6 albums in 20 years.. they literally have 2 greatest hits albums.. 15 songs apiece.. where every song was recorded within 24 months of eachother.. think about that.. 30 songs that almost everyone in the world over 40 knows.. all within 2 years.. it's insane the amount of incredible music they pit out in such a short period.
I ASSumed that you had already done this one. This is the first one they should have asked for. THIS IS A PRE-COMMENT. THIS ONE WILL BLOW YOU AWAY! SWAMP MUSIC! Edit: CCR and most great rock bands are Blues-inspired, so Blues is probably the name you're looking for. Def not Soul or R&B.
That's not entirely correct about John never having traveled to the South, as he was stationed in the South during Basic Training. I don't remember which state. He had so much soul and emotion and power in his voice and he was so rhythmically inclined, and I love his phrasing. If you haven't done them, check out Feeling Blue and also Long As I Can See the Light. Oh, and also (Wish I Could) Hideaway, Tombstone Shadow and Penthouse Pauper. These are some of my favorite showcases of the elements of his voice that you were talking about. Plus they are absolutely fantastic songs, and at least a couple of them will make you think almost more in terms of Soul or Motown. The other thing that I would mention about Born on the Bayou, is that bass guitar line. It's a perfect blend of different styles that is just right for this song. It's a huge part of the feel of it.
Hi Robert, MMB did a reaction already, and it's one of the best recations ever, by anyone. He ran out of the room twice while Janis was singing. I've been recomending that MMB listen to Joe Cocker's "Little Help From My Friends" at Woodstock, one of the other greatest raw-blues performances ever. Just two years after Monterey. Hopefully MMB will get to it eventually.
You're a great and entertaining reactor, man... keep it up! Edit: Also, big CCR fan.... BotBayou is my favorite of theirs, it's such a classic (yes, they all are but this one's on top in my books).
I'm an idiot because it took me forever to realize just how much of my mental picture of this song was generated by the cymbal sounding like splashing footsteps in the swamp. I don't know why I caught it on this listen, because I know I've heard this song many times.
I love CCR. But I admit I was disappointed when I learned they were not from Louisiana or East Texas, etc. And disappointed again when I learned they were not from the blue colllar Central Valley, CA like I thought. But by that time, I didn't really care anymore because they were for real. Please take a look at CCR at The Royal Albert Hall sometime to see how they rocked live. Thank you.
It is not country Rock it's more like a southern rock with blues mixed in also SOUL is not a black think it a while thing it's either you have it or you don't thing
Good god almighty….this is a chopped up version. Almost half the song gone. Please look at these videos that you select and make sure that you aren’t selecting a shortened, chopped up video. There was more lyrics and more guitar solo that was removed here
It sounds soul, not because it's country rock, or whatever, but the blues. His voice is bananas. His songwriting is genius.
I'm reading Fogerty's autobiography now. He was experiencing James Brown from the front row from an early age, and listening, hard, to EVERYONE else making the best music at the time. Deeply steeped in motown, R&B, funk, gospel, as well as early rock.
It’s amazing how many were inspired by the hardest working man in show business. ❤
Oh yes, CCR is so excellent that you have heard their music EVERYWHERE! Movies, TV, sporting events, commercials and more. These guys are still touring and playing. ❤
nope
That incredible guitar always sounds so haunting, they were Fabulous. 🌞😎
Hey
Lol, backwoods there!!
Extra score for the cowbell.
Try CCR's cover of "The Midnight Special". That's and old 1920s blues song that they did a great job with.
"Midnight Special" by them is another soulful tune that I'm sure you will enjoy.
Just about any movie about Vietnam, has a CCR song
The soldiers loves em. The hippies loved em. Everyone loves ccr, except the war starting govt folks
Yo, ya know what's so magnificent about John's voice...(long pause as I yell at my computer... E V E R Y T H I N G!!!!!)
Southern soul in southern rock.❤❤
Find the Video, boats cruising down the bayou, hound dogs howling, baby alligators hatching & getting to the water to swim for the first time, it is a great CCR video ( without the band in it !) just this fantastic song taking you thru the bayou country 😂
I’m a huge CCR fan! They made such feel good music 🎵 😊
Try the long version of Suzy Q! It’s a great long driving song. Cheers!
John is extremely soulful! You’ve got it! ❤
This is one my favorite CCR songs, glad you liked it too
DREW, FYI: In 1969, as John Lingan notes in his new book, “A Song for Everyone,” Creedence Clearwater Revival even reportedly achieved “something that no other group had done in America since 1964: They outsold the Beatles.”
Soul is singing from the gut
I always feel like the guitar is shimmering. Such a fire song!

I agree; not a bad CCR song to be found❤ Suzie Q, Down In The Corner, Proud Mary, so much more!
These guys are genius

Allmond Brothers also southern rock blues and Greg Allmond also has a soulfoul raspy voice... Iconic ban also
this is the quintessential Vietnam war music, that an Have you ever seen the rain & Run through the jungle
Wow! You covered THIS song! I was hoping for this! My favorite from Creedence.
My absolutely favourite band since the 70s
This song will always remind me of the summer of 1969, cruising and being so cool and carefree....
Yes sir. Bobby Boucher theme song!
Good commentary. I like the metaphor of the punch.
'The Midnight Special' has also been in several movies. Then there is 'Down on the Corner' Try those for fun. Thanks. Good review.
You cannot live in the U.S. for any amount of time and not hear a CCR tune in a movie or on an TV advertisement. They are steeped in our collective pop culture.
John fogerty is starting his world tour in June! Can't wait for Nashville 😊
I saw john fogerty playing have you ever seen the rain in a park in Sweden just a few years ago. He is still going strong

CCR songs are in more movies than any other group I can think of.

nobody does Louisiana Cajun swamp music better than these boys from So Cal...and Jon is one of a kind fo shu
I LOVE EVERYONE OF CCR'S SONGS, NOT MANY YOU CAN SAY ABOUT ABOUT THAT, EXCEPT THE ANIMALS
Unfortunately, that's a shortened version of the song. The actual track is just over 5 minutes. With CCR, always try to find the full versions.
That's not entirely correct about John never having traveled to the South, as he was stationed in the South during Basic Training. I don't remember which state.

And those swishy watery drums take me right to that bayou. 😊
My Friend this Song "" What a Groove "". Thank You.🎸🎼👌
Try out Janis Joplin live at Monterey "Ball And Chain"if you want to hear and see true raw Blues
Hi Robert, MMB did a reaction already, and it's one of the best recations ever, by anyone. He ran out of the room twice while Janis was singing. Country Rock, but his voice is of the Blues
ITIS TOOOOO SOUL! ( I'd be interested to see his genetic lineage.)
You should hear the deep cuts. Some real jewels on those albums. "The Penthouse Pauper" is one of those - with extended soloing.
I'm an idiot because it took me forever to realize just how much of my mental picture of this song was generated by the cymbal sounding like splashing footsteps in the swamp. I don't know why I caught it on this listen, because I know I've heard this song many times.
Senior in high school when it was released
You all think reactions are NEW? In 1969, a blues magazine played this for LITTLE RICHARD. "Yeaaahhhh!" he said. "OH yeah, he's FUNKY!"
If you haven't yet, look up John Fogerty's Premonition concert. So good. It's from the late 90s.
Please do SWEET HITCH HIKER and UP AROUND THE BEND and DOWN ON THE CORNER and MIDNIGHT SPECIAL and JAMBALIA by John Fogerty /CCR
❤CCR❤
❤LITTLE RICHARD OMG❤
Waterboy!!!!!!!
They’re tunes have been in countless movies.
It's a LSD trip born on the Bayou. That's John's way of keeping up with the best band ever. Ladies and Gentleman "The Beatles".
I love CCR. Try 99 and a half and 110 in the shade by ccr super blues
❤❤❤JOHN FOGERTY IS A NATIONAL TREASURE!!!❤❤
You thought CCR had a cool name? Look up THE OZARK MOUNTAIN DAREDEVILS! LOL!
❤
No there is nothing like John's voice , but maybe Eric Burdon could go after him and not be laughed out of the room for lacking soul.
I hope you get some headphones soon!
😂😂😂😂YOU KNOW NOW HUH??
👌🏻
Once again, you got the cut version. Always look for a long version.
Backwoods Bay not Bare
It is not country Rock it's more like a southern rock with blues mixed in also SOUL is not a black think it a while thing it's either you have it or you don't thing

Why is the song cut in time?
