He also set fire to his piano after being told that he had to follow another singer at a show. He wanted to make sure his performance was remembered.

He wanted to close the show, but had to go second to last. He lit lighter fluid on fire for effect, and said to the closing act, "follow that". I think it was Chuck Berry, but I could be wrong.

If you like the piano slide, you should see it LIVE---Jerry was the goat----He set fire to the music industry and a few others----just remember in the 50s and 60s was a different "life" and different cultures were accepted and later frowned upon---

Okay, Jerry Lee Lewis, TV evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and country piano superstar Mickey Gilley were all first cousins who grew up dirt poor. Jimmy can play like this too. Check out Mickey ‘Girls all Get Prettier at Closing Time’

The movie with Dennis Quaide playing Jerry was really good. I'm 77 and was a fan as a kid before we found out about Myra who was my age. But even my mom who was shocked couldn't stop listening to him he was that unique and that exciting. We would put on his records and dance in the living room. Saw him on TV. He put his foot on the piano and played with his heel. Everyone went nuts. Probably Elvis was #1 when Jerry was #2

When I was little my grandma had a video recording of him, I could never remember his name so I always called him the man who played the piano under his leg. I didn't get to see the video of him setting the piano on fire until I actually remembered his name. 😂

When Elvis burst onto the scene he scared parents as bad as Marilyn Manson did in the 90s. He quickly cleaned up his image and became more of a Pop icon. Jerry Lee remained a Rocker - practically a proto-Punk - to the very end.

You have to watch him live. He always gave a very big performance, similar to what Elvis did. You lose a lot just listening t the music. He gets very animated when preforming!

Oh my God he was the bad boy of rock and roll in the 50s got into so much trouble it was insane you really need to see him play I've never seen a man play with his feet set the piano on fire and keep playing he did that to piss off Chuck Berry when Chuck Berry demanded that Jerry Lee open for him so while playing Great balls of fire he poured whiskey on the inside of the grand piano set it on fire play till the song was over dental Chuck Berry follow that killer

The movie about him is the same as the song you reached to Great Balls of Fire and stars Dennis Quaid. The documentary is Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind. The documentary is likely to be more informative and truthful while the movie would be more entertaining. 😉

He's from the deep south back when inbreeding was still very common. Jerry Lee took his 13yo wife to England for his first international tour and that was a cultural splash that had repercussions for him later here in the US.

Jerry Lee Lewis was one of the more flamboyant & wilder rock & roll singers of the time in the 50's-60's. He was nicknamed "The Killer". His piano playing & showmanship were legendary. He had a lot of hits such as "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On", "Breathless", "Wild One", "High School Confidential", "What'd I Say", "Another Place, Another Time" etc. His career faltered for a time when he married his 13-year-old cousin.

Yes his marrige was a scandal back in the day. Priscilla was 14 years young when she and 10 years older Elvis became a couple, They were lucky, especially Elvis, it wasn´t a scandal.

But that wasn’t true. Why does everybody latch onto that when that’s not what happened. They met when she was 14 because of who her father was but nothing ever romantic happened between them till she was an adult

Jerry Lee Lewis was one of the first ten artists elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in my opinion, the wildest and craziest of the bunch, and he outlived all of the rest of them.
One time when he was very inebriated, he he went to Graceland and pounded on the gates, trying to get Elvis to come out.

Yall do the worst videos of jerry lee, once you see what he's about you'll realize why tf haven't I been listening to this music. Gotta do live reactions, you can't get the true idea of how good he is at playing the piano
