- Here’s a little behind the scenes on how we brought Jesper to life. Incidentally, Jesper got nominated for Best Character at the VES Awards. Good luck to all the nominees!
When Jesper distinguishes himself as the postal academy’s worst student, he is stationed on a frozen island above the Arctic Circle, where the feuding locals hardly exchange words let alone letters. Jesper is about to give up when he finds an ally in local teacher Alva, and discovers Klaus, a mysterious carpenter who lives alone in a cabin full of handmade toys. These unlikely friendships return laughter to Smeerensburg, forging a new legacy of generous neighbors, magical lore and stockings hung by the chimney with care. An animated holiday comedy directed by Despicable Me co-creator Sergio Pablos.

This part @3:07 where Jesper is talking to himself as two personalities got me really into this character and oh god, the richness of that animation sequence... so many actions going on in a span of few seconds, it make you realize how intricate animating is.

It’s so amazing how open you guys at SPA have been. It is such a breath of fresh air to see this huge production be proud to pull back the curtains and show all the human workforce, love and thought that was poured into this project, quirks and all, in rich detail, FOR FREE. So much invaluable material is just being released to the public, to help people understand how complex and, yet, intuitive the animation process is, and how many people have to dive head-first into their work and put a part of themselves into it. And learn with each other, and teach each other. I had no idea how magnanimous of a push into the future of animation this studio would bring. I think this might be my new favorite animation studio, and it might not even be that close of a call. This is beautiful. KEEP. IT. UP!

This guy is one of the biggest reasons as to why i love this film. He was such a despite idiot throughout yet also had a big heart that made you support him throughout. The character development was great too, seeing him turn from selfish to showing his heart more clearly. Also, hes actually really cute. Genuinely my favourite character of all time, I love him dearly ❤
Jason Schwartzman went all Robin Williams with his role.
And Inspector Jesus too. He was in Robot Chicken for a Christmas Murder Special. I liked him as Jesper.
Im really glad you didnt show Jesper real nature in the trailer. The begging and his sassy personality was a pleasant surprise that made me love this film !
Also honestly, I really wouldn't mind seeing more videos or shots of Jason Schwartzman doing more Improvise lines of Jesper that weren't even written in the actual script for the movie! I remember reading that a lot of it was cut and only a few words of Improvised dialogue like the part with the little "Jespie" baby voice was allowed, hearing the other lines that were cut due to not being apart of the script is just so...entertaining also awesome to see an actor put that much personality into a character there doing.
Jesper is my favorite animated character of the entire decade. you guys did an amazing job.

Because of this movie, The SPA Studios is getting recognise, which really really good. The fact that they did so much hard work, you can definitely tell. It’s great. I love this movie.

I LOOOVED Jesper Johansen. The way he evolves through the entire movie had me rooting for him
I remember someone told me, they asked Chuck Jones, ( the legendary Animator -- Looney Toons e.t.c )...
... How did he came up with all those stories and ideas in his episodes and how was he able to animate them so fast ?...
He simply replied: "You know, I know Bugs and Elmer and Duffy... SO WELL... that all I have to do, is put an obstacle in front of them... and they will just act and react !"
I'm very glad that those invaluable principles were preserved and pushed forward with Klaus and mr Sergio Pablo's amazing team.

Yet again, I'm seriously loving all these behind scenes animation progress of this lovely movie. Also yet again congratulations! on all the nominations for this piece of 2D animation artsy, not just for the Oscars nomination but as well as being nominated seven times for an Annie Awards this year too because everyone at SPA studios truly deserves it so much for the amazing work you guys put into this film.

Every time I watch jasper.I feel As if the spirit of kuzco moved to Jasper
what a masterpiece
3:08 this part where he's loosing it is pretty funny because it's like his spoiled chid side wants to give up and the determined and mature side is trying to froce himself to put it together and make his promise so he can go back his "normal" life.
But i godda admit, i had those moments when i'm frustrated by soemthing, i strangely imagine me telling myself to be quiet like a child and make the "Tsk tsk tsk" noise ( something i hate the most). whern i'm thinking about it, i'm kinda feeling worried because i feel like i'm just going crazy and be just weird and annoying to myself.
