  • Figuring out how to incorporate Lighting into Traditional Animation was no easy task. Here’s a bit of history on how we got there!
    Enjoy!

    In the same way that Interstellar drove thousands to pursue STEM careers, Klaus inspires people to pursue art. This is on my top 5 greatest animated films of all time and every time I watch I am just in wonder. This is the gold standard of animation.

    These people get it! Opening opportunities for any artistic style that the artist wants to choose from. I hope to one day see something that resembles that oil painting style, but with thick, sketchy outlines. Or maybe something that resembles street art/graffiti? Maybe one day I'll be able to work with systems like these! That is my dream :D

    I always love hearing people talk about this marriage of art and technology! Too many people seem to think that you can only master one or the other. But it's best to be like Leonardo da Vinci and explore both at once!

    This is one of the best Christmas movies ever to me. I love how different it is from all the other Christmas movies. it doesn't feel like just a regular Christmas movie it feels like something more. And the amazing animation makes it even more incredible and interesting and fun to watch. Thank you for your amazing work💕💕💕💕

    • @strrb8578
      @strrb8578 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Well, it's complicated. The studio (that made the softwares) needs a source of income in order to keep producing.

    WHY HASN'T ANY OTHER 2D ANIMATED PROJECT (regardless if it is a film or TV show) USED THIS TECH! This looks amazing! I mean Lighting and Texture I would LOVE to see this in other 2D properties. Just look at Dragon Age: Absolution which is very well animated but imagine how much better it would look with this tech. Hell Avatar is going to be sticking with 2D and will be releasing films in Theaters so why not use this to make a series that is already pretty cinematic in style even more stylized?
    I mean imagine Firebending with the actual lighting or Earth and Waterbending with the Texture tracking we see here.
    And yet no one seems to be using this and going for a 2D/3D hybrid style, which is great don't get me wrong but it would be nice to have more films and shows that were just 2D instead of just some elements that are 2D.

    Me thinking how this might work:
    It seems the block colour and saturation is decided and applied traditionally. Then, on a layer above, a rough shape is drawn, but only appears within the linework. This layer can be pulled and stretched and squashed in a 3D space. From here, light intensity, light angles and textures can be applied from a library. The light and shadow cast on the invisible rough 3D shape shows up on the flats.
