I feel that Into the Spider-Verse didn't perform excellently at the box office due to it being an animated movie. If live action, it would have performed better I believe.
Edit: I agree with people pointing out that there have been animated movies that make lots of money, I just feel it would have made more money if live action. Also, Grace's argument that people are done with the multi-verse does not add up. If, as the box office shows, many didn't go to see the movie, then they didn't see it for a number of reasons such as Spider fatigue or going up against other movies etc. I don't think that extends to the multi-verse being in the movie.

To be fair, there are plenty of animated movies that make a lot of money at the box office. Some even make a billion. So that argument doesn’t really stick.

No, frozen, zootopia, finding dory, and incredibles 2 all have recently made a billion and two of them were original stories without the source material fan base. My theory is, people are really feeling the Spider-Man fatigue, I mean even homecoming is one of the softer mcu entries in recent memory (it’s still did a ton, but it wasn’t captain marvel or black panther)
I don't think you can put the Into the Spider-verse box office on the multiverse, I think it had much more to do with the fact that it was animated.

Jake Gyllenhaal looks absolutely nothing whatsoever like Tom Holland. They have completely different facial features and structure. They're both white and have brown hair and that's all. But that's like saying Sam Jackson and Laurence Fishburne look alike (when they clearly don't), just because they both happen to be black and have short hair.
I know and considering that Tom has dark brown eyes and Jake has blue eyes, how can they pass for the same person in the movie?

X-Men could work to bring in Fox characters, but I think it is more for Sony to use Tom Holland in the Venom Universe
Eternals will address this is what I believe. It was the Celestials who introduced the X Gene into humans, which makes it more plausible.

@@zacharygadzinski3147 in IM3 it's pointed out that there's an open slot in the human brain for humans to evolve and develop superpowers. All they really need to do to introduce the X-Men is state that people with mutant abilities were afraid of coming out but now with what happened with the Thanos and the snap, many of them are realizing it's better to be out and actively helping their communities rather than hiding and ashamed.

Wait a minute... how can you say audiences didn't like the Multiverse in Spider-verse? It's an animated Spider-Man movie that everyone loved, that won an Oscar, that earned a sequel and put Lord and Miller at the top of the game in the studio.
The Multiverse is good for Spider-Man and the spider verse and it's good for the MCU because it helps us bring in the X-Men and the Fantastic Four
It's all about box office to Grace. She tends to be very dismissive of films or actors that don't perform spectacularly at box office.

Lindsey M yea, surprised she doesn’t realize that Amy Pascal getting a producer credit is basically just a formality...there’s no way Kevin Feige was going into this deal and taking the risk (collateral damage being his crowning achievement that is the mcu) without having a tight grip of the reigns.

The issue with him being a liar is that Nick Fury CAN fact check it. He's the spy's spy. Plus Multiverse is a good way to bring in Mutants. It helps tremendously. Him being adult Peter would be a great twist.
Yeah, it's hard to trick someone like Nick Fury, which also means that if Mysterio manages to do that it will be a good way to show how dangerous he is as a villain ... or like someone pointed out in the comments, this Nick Fury could be an illusion himself and the real one is busy dealing with some trouble elsewhere.
The multiverse only works for Deadpool. It seems too lazy and uncreative for the MCU. There could be two different variants of the X-gene in the MCU. Humans without magic or tech who have powers are Class A mutants. Class X mutants develop their powers naturally.

Mysterio being an adult Peter Parker actually makes perfect sense to why the multiverse is involved, maybe the events of Endgame created a timeline where Peter Parker never got bit, that way Mysterio could still have his same roots from Hollywood

Grace! 375.3 is still pretty good especially for a movie which casual audience rejected for being ANIMATED not MULTIVERSE
If this timeline/multiverse thing turns out to be true, im hoping Kang the Conqueror makes an appearance.
Here is my analysis:
Peter and Mr Beck have multiple heart to hearts in the trailer. Mr Beck asks Peter what is important to him. Mr Beck talks about what it means to be a hero and how there are sacrifices. This makes Mr Beck appear very kind and sympathetic. That lends credence to option #3.
However, the line about sacrifice and that people sometimes die does get my Spidey senses tingling. I could see Mr Beck being a sympathetic figure, but ultimately wanting something that Peter (or Peter's universe) does not want to give. That could be MJ (if Mr Beck is an alternate universe Peter) or something else less clear. That seems to suggest #4.
Finally, Peter taking off the glasses and appearing shocked does suggest an illusion of some kind.
So, I say it a combination of #2, #3, and #4. Mr Beck is what he seems (from another multiverse) and he is there to take something from Peter's universe and he uses illusions at some point to trick Peter.
Correlate with Endgame by how the branch of universe/reality will appear if you do the time heist.
Returning the stone only for making those universe balanced from threat (have all infinity stones) but it doesn't fix or return certain event that already happen there.
It mentioned that Mysterio comes from other dimension / universe. So I assume Marvel start playing Multiverse based on the branch occured during Endgame.
Mysterio must have come from alter reality:
2014 (where Thanos dusted, Nebula killed) or
2013 (where Frigga met future Thor) or
2012 (where Loki escape with Teserract) or
1970 (where Peggy marry Caps)
Interesting if they really do MULTIVERSE because it means that they can bring Iron Man or Black Widow back from other timeline/universe/dimension/reality like they bring 2014 Gamora to our canon universe.
But who knows xD
SPOILERS:
I think the MCU is the 616 universe not connected to the comics but it would be the 616 cinematic universe. In Endgame the scene where Scott returns from the quantum realm he’s Van is in a storage unit. There’s a sign that reads “Lang” and in smaller letters on the corner “616” . It could be a tiny Easter Egg or a clue for future movies.

Why money matter a lot
@QK/SLH IRON MAN was closer to 4 than 3, SPIDERVERSE was 3. However, IM came out in 2008 at a time when home video rentals and dvd/blu ray sales were still healthy and it was a brand new character (not Spider-Man). It made a ton on the secondary market. Those options don't really exist for SPIDERVERSE. It'll get some streaming funds, sales to tv and a little rental/sales, but not nearly the same ballpark.

Into the Spider-Verse did not have a bad audience score. You can't count people who didn't see it as part of the audience. The main reason it didn't do good at the box office was because it was animated.

Maybe it’s like an iron lad/kang situation, that if something happens to peter on this school trip after the snap and his grieving of Tony that he would become the villain mysterio? I don’t know about the multiverse theory, but it could also be a future version of Peter rather than an alternate version, and with the snap mysterio has to personally intervene in the timeline to ensure his creation? I disagree with Grace's take on what it means if audiences accept the multiverse in Far From Home but not Into The Spiderverse. I think it's more likely to mean that people don't see Far From Home as a Sony film, they see it as an MCU film and will treat it as such vs seeing Into The Spiderverse as a kid's film because it's animation. I don't think the multiverse angle plays into it.

What if mysterio is actually uncle Ben from an alternate universe?
I'd like a combo of Theories #3 and #4, w/ some alterations: He knows a little magic, a good deal of tech (inc. Stark tech), and is a failed hero from his timeline, who is trying to make amends, and The Elementals are his chance at redemption. Hey, maybe one of the illusions by Beck might, near the end of the film, be that he is an older Peter Parker from an alternate timeline?
Do you think it's an opportunity for X-Men or F4 to show up because of the multiverse Grace?

Grace, I don’t think mainstream audiences rejected ‘Into the Spider-verse’ because of multiverse story telling, but because it was animated and its animation style. Mainstream audiences just accepted convoluted time travel with Endgame. So I feel that if done right then the multiverse will be embraced by mainstream audiences in a more familiar setting. As always, you’re the best Grace. 😊❤️

I enjoy the theory that the Mysterio we see here is an older Peter Parker from a timeline where the Decimation eliminated the OTHER half of the 50% wipe. The remaining heroes were able to kill their Thanos variant, but unable to reverse the snap. Broken, alone, and devastated he eventually spirals down into madness and becomes a villain, utilizing Stark tech and maybe even learning some of the mystic arts. Maybe an event happens that causes him to become evil(the death of another loved one) or him escaping into this universe(through the multiverse tear) because in his reality, "Spider-Man has gone rogue." So he gives up his Spider-Man hero persona and becomes this new, darker version of Peter Parker who seeks vengeance in this universe.
Just a theory.
So this is how Xmen and Fantastic 4 comes to the MCU!!!😁
Spider-verse has good box office considering it is an animated superhero film released theatrically. The studios crank out the direct to video ones so to then release one in theaters and make 300 million plus is impressive for a first go around. I think she is being overly simplistic.

In a shot of the trailer, it looks like Peter has Tonys glasses. He takes them of and looks freaken out. Maybe Tony left him something, like the final goodbye in endgame, but this time projected from the glasses. We see Peter with a hologram of a gauntlet from the iron spider armor which looks a lot like the hologram of the iron man gauntlet, which Tony has while designing the iron man armor in the first iron man movie. Maybe Tony is passing the torch, just like cap, and that’s why peter says that they need a new iron man.
Wasn't the Cameleon confirmed for this movie? I think Nick Fury IS the Cameleon. This would be amazing.

All those disaster scenes are simply virtual reality. That's why they made the point of showing Peter taking off those glasses. You can only see the elementals if you are wearing Mysterios tech.
I actually don't like the idea of a multiverse. It would get too much and complicated.
X-men already done it one time, days of future past basically created another timeline before mcu.
I think its a combination of the 1st two. Mysterio is lying about being from the multi verse and is instead using his power of Illusion and Magic to create the "presence of the elementals" whom he controls secretly (kinda like a puppet master) and pretends to fight to gain the trust of Shield and Peter Parker (or really which ever super hero he knew they would dispatch to Venice). Given his powers he probably senses the hesitation in Peter and preys on this fact talking of sacrifice and putting the burden on oneself.
To what end he wants to gain peoples trust has yet to be revealed in any trailers shown, but my guess is it to obtain some kinda of device or artifact that exists in Shields possession or in Italy itself that would amplify Mysterio's powers and he will use the constant fighting and "failure" to defeat the elementals as an excuse to get Shield and Peter to hand it over to him so that he can "banish" the evil. Once getting said McGuffin the curtain would fall away and he would reveal his true intentions culminating in a showdown between Peter and Mysterio at the end of the film

I see Alternate Universe and Alternate Timeline as two different things. Alternate Universe is a different Earth, completely separate. (Like an Earth where the Nazis won WW2)
Alternate Timeline is on the same Earth, but something is changed (Like Loki escaping with the Tesseract)

The low box office for spiderverse was not merely due to the audience rejecting a multiverse. They did an amazing job handling the multiverse in that movie and people received it really well. More people had more of an issue with the animation style that kept them away.
Marvel Studios and Sony BOTH got to the Multiverse concept before DC. Pathetic WB/DC.
