  • California To Florida on A Poor Man's Harley. Riding a Honda Shadow 750 ACE 5,000 miles from CA to FL. A longer version of my ride across the country spanning California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. The quote from the beginning means Here be dragons from old maps meaning these areas are unknown so they would assume dragons occupied the space. I have other videos of me doing cool stuff and I have other trips planned for the future.

A lot of you are salty because I called it a poor man's Harley. It's a joke I am not talking bad about honda shadows in anyway. For a bike that was only 3k and got me across the country I've developed nothing but respect for the Honda shadow and hope to let everyone know how epic of a bike it can be.

Funny how how every Harley rider I came across asked if I thought my bike was underpowered... yet they all looked like they were just heading out for coffee.

    Hi,
    I wacthed your this video.
    I'm JAPANEASE,
    living in TOKYO JAPAN.
    First,
Thank you for your riding on japanease mede BIKE.
    Many Americans say that
    ''You need Harley,''
''You need a bike with a larger displacement,''
I understand that there is such an opinion.
    definitely,
Harley Davidson is a very good motorcycle.
    I love too.
    But,
Harley with a large displacement when riding in the United States
The difference with your Honda should not be so great.
    For us,
    The most important thing is
    - KEEP ON RIDING -
    That's it all.
    I think so.
Because I do not understand English
Most of this sentence was translated by GOOGLE.

I mean you can do it on a moped and people have done it one mopeds, and Groms too, but, to be comfortable on the highway you want a heavier bike to handle the crosswinds and enough power to cruise 80+ and pass people on your own terms so you dont have big rigs blowing by you all the time. Ive ridden on the highway on bikes that really shouldnt have been there and it was a bit scary at times, when a semi blows by you and the wind damn near throws you off the road you get a little tingle in your gut you know...

Nice ride. Thanks for sharing. That's some good time in the wind. I've done cross country on a Harley, a Triumph 900, even a 400 Yamaha Special (seemed like a good idea at the time...you can't tell an 18 year old anything, btw). The bigger the bike, the easier the ride, but I don't regret a mile of any of it.

    • @pc7573

      A Yam 400 special eh?
That would be the old air cooled twin. A buddy had one of those. A solid design that will carry a rider hundreds of miles per day.
Small bikes for travel? Check out Ed March, he rides a Honda 90 across continents!
His videos are a hoot to watch.
I've owned old GoldWing, Yam Venture, Yam XS 1100, PC 800, all great for big mile days but I had great long trips on 550s and 650 singles as well.
Craziest long day was 480 mi on a 77 Yamaha DT 400
2 stroke single. That thing surged so badly that you were forced to hold the throttle in one exact position for the entire journey. I won't ever forget that day. My '68 Triumph 500 with drum brakes, prehistoric Amal carbs and 3 candle power headlamp was a luxury ride compared to that DT 400! Hehe
      Safe travels

Another misguided individual I see MrTurnone. There are those of us who can easily afford a Harley, but chose not to buy one for several reasons (I could write a book about it) but I won't go into that. Let's just say we don't care to jump on the bandwagon to be accepted by those who sing praise to the Harley gods and give a percentage of their income to the church of dealerships across the land. We just want to get what we pay for (Harley can't come close), want dependablity and reasonably priced parts for bikes that are easy to maintain. *You thought that everyone knew" Knew what? How Harley has brainwashed people into thinking that an over priced clothing store can also sell you a bike? Yes, they can!! Don't forget to make sure you bring your tube of Locktite along!
