For a private press the vinyl it sure does sound fantastic!! Excellent transparency with that 3 dimensional quality we look for. It’s why we buy these on vinyl in the first place isn’t it? As for the songs, I was very surprised at how much I loved this album after the first spin. I found myself hanging on every note with a smooth flow of tracks from start to finish - this has replay value as I wanted to come back to it asap. The musicianship and especially the vocals are top notch too.
The track "I should have guessed by now" brought to mind something/anything era Todd Rundgren with "in the thick of it" recalling Todd’s poppier side of Utopia. Next up is "Loney doney" which has a Brian Wilson sunflower era piano banging out major seventh chords under some creamy vocals and harmonies - my favorite track. "Did it myself" is another Todd Rundgren pop track but this time it’s a perfect mix of hermit of mink era with side 2 of a wizard a true star. It’s very clear to me that Chalis listened to the best of Todd which is a great influence to have. "Torn apart" moves in a jazz pop direction that will bring to mind Steely Dan complete with a slick guitar solo. The album ends on a high note with the title track that is simply lovely and spare. A shimmering ballad with just piano, chimes and the ARP creating a backdrop while hazy vocals & harmonies cascade over the top. Don’t believe any review that tosses off Yes as the sound here. That is a LAZY review - Acid archive reviewer, I am talking about you! - เพลง
Vaguely know this one and you've done it Jimmy, finding the fringe records even for the Acid Archives.
That is me. Always on the fringe. lol
