    I recently bought this lens, brand new and was lucky enough to receive a model that was made in Japan. (but I've read that it doesn't matters if it's Tawain of Japan, quality seems to be the same)
    I finally understand what the hype is all about ❤
    This lens was strictly and purely made for photography, for those which are creatively playing with light and shadows, with well synchronised composition, the magic that all are talking about..it exists.
    And I've become of the many Fuji photographers that are saying: I don't know how to explain it, but there's something special about this lens 😂

    This lens and the old 56mm 1.2 are my favorites. The highlight halation, and character are perfect. Also the awesome center sharpness with a slight falloff in the corners definitely help my images look less flat.

    My favorite Fuji photos have been captured with this lens. Absolutely love the way this lens renders. It really is a shame the way the market is moving with higher and higher megapixel cameras and less and less character lenses.

    I have this lens and it also is one of my favorites especially for portraits and street photography. Amazing how so many folks praised this lens to no end and now favor the 33mm f1.4 wr so much more. The 35 f1.4 is a timeless classic imo. Great video btw!!

    A point rarely mentioned is the close similarity of the optical design of this lens to the Zeiss 50mm Sonnar, a lens I happen to love....and think this 35mm neo-clone is better both optically and in pleasantness of character. That it has significant field curvature by today’s standards doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I love it as a companion lens to the 32mm Zeiss Touit, a modern Planar that shares filter size with the Fujinon, a useful feature at times. Do I wish it were weather sealed? Yep. Do I wish the hood cover stayed on? Yep. Do I hope the lens stays in production as technology progresses? Yep.

    I got mine XF35/1.4 on Saturday and enjoying it so far. Although after shooting with XC35/2 I should admit that XF35/1.4 AF requires much more attention. I mean with XC35 I could even shoot from hip, just by passing by people, not worrying about focus. Which makes XC35 perfect budget street photography lens. XF35/1.4 AF is not that reliable (latest firmware is installed in body and lens) Maybe it is my personal issue. But colors and rendering of XF35/1.4 is pure magic. I agree that photo made with Fujicrons have little artificial taste. Meanwhile photos made XF35/1.4 are more natural.
    P.S. I wonder whether I should get squarehood, but price is huge…

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree, they offer very different shooting experiences, with the F2 I can shoot blind and get pretty much everything in focus, whereas with the 1.4 I gotta slow down. The 35 1.4's hood makes the lens! :D

      @erenjam  ปีที่แล้ว

      Huge huge thanks for the support. I doubt we'll ever get a true 35 1.4 remake, in fact, its more likely that they'll discontinue it and just push on with the 33 instead

      @@erenjam i feel like that leaves a massive gap in their lineup then though, because while the f2 35mm is certainly small, it lacks the character and 1.4 aperture. Cameras like the X-T30 & x-pro kind of need that small fast character focused lens. Even if they just updated the 35mm with WR and newer autofocus motors I think it would sell

    Thanks to my understanding wife, I didn't have to choose between Fuji 35mm and Zeiss Touit 32mm. I grab sometimes this sometimes that. I always compare the differences in character between the two with Beatles and Stones. One is rougher and wilder, the other somehow finer, more elegant. Both fantastic in their own way.

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I think Fujifilm's absolute focus on photography during these years play's a huge role. These day Fuji have to make lenses which work well for video too so we loose a bit on the photography end

    Hey bro. That why I sold all my newer camera models, lenses, bigger zoom etc and left with X-T1 + 18mm f2 + 35mm 1.4.

    I’m not a Fujifilm user but your appraisal of that 35mm lens is very similar to the feelings I have about my manual Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 E mount lens. I agree the blend from sharp to out of focus can look less pleasing with modern lenses. Now there are Voigtlander manual lenses for Fuji, other than getting used to manual, these should be excellent character lens options for Fuji users.

    I just discovered your channel today and it's such a pleasure to look at a review made by a photographer, not by an engineer ... Your photo work is also incredible by its unique rendering and quality, the best channel of photograph that I have been able to look at to date and will also subscribe to your Instagram for additional beautiful photos. Well done! Also, I followed the link for preset pack of course, but it is editing preset in LR... have you tried to work on film simulation recipes to obtain similar rendering? Would be happy to purchase such recipe instead of the LR preset (I tend to shoot jpeg to prevent the editing process as much as possible)

    Totally concur with you comment re the 35 1.4. I judge a lens by the number of “keepers” I take. I have four fuji primes and what occurred to me over time was most of my favourite shots were taken with the 35 1.4 or my 56 1.2. OK the 35 appears to be the focal length I gravitate to anyway, but irrespective old it may be but this is defo my desert island lens and would never sell it. Not even tempted by the new 33. I wouldn’t want to loose its magic. BDW whats the track on this video that starts just after 6 mins in? All the best. Clive

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  ปีที่แล้ว

    Unfortunately, after only a few months of use, my X T-3 repeatedly had problems recognizing the 35mm f1.4. Which is why I had to send the lens in for repairs. Does anyone know this problem?

    Hey Eren, thanks for the videos, my favourite channel so far :) Could you do video about filters? Do you use any other than Pro-Mist?

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I'll discuss it in my end of month episode but I don't use filters that often, sometimes I like to use a pro-mist at night but thats about it

    Would you consider the 23mm 1.4 R in the same realm as this one? Character wise?

    would this be a good lens for video on xt5?

    People say the 18-55 is good for photos but im lookin for a video lens now.

    Curious, what filters do you use on the 35mm F1.4. Do you use diffusion filters?

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      at f1.4 its well suited to low light, I find the AF works a lot better with the XT4 than on my xpro2

    Nice video Eren,love your shots in this video! How do you find this lens holds up at night time? I'm interested in getting this due to the 1.4 aperture for street photography at night since its getting dark so early now, but worried about what people say regarding the autofocus in low-light situations? (would ideally like to get this character filled lens and save money instead of getting the newer one)

      I love the look it gives, it is slower than the f2's though and the manuel focusing is not good at all

      @@erenjam yea awesome - what I do is simulate what the film was ‘stuck’ at in the past… either you had tungsten or daylight ( 3200 or 5600k ) and then those off color casts look more retro. Looks like you have a good eye and you are correcting them back in! Awesome.
