I bought the XF35mm f1.4 as first (and for over a year only) lens with my X-T3. Yes, I-in theory-miss the weather sealing. But I find the larger diameter in comparison with the f2-version very aesthetic. I don't like it when lenses taper at the outer end at all. (I own the XF50mm f2 now, too. Although it’s great, such a tiny tapering lens looks weird on an X-T3.) And even with the “slow” lens I manage to do street photography for over two years now with quite OK results, I might add.
Very good review and great photo’s; hat’s off! Recently traded my 35mm f/2 for the 35mm f/1.4. Images of the 1.4 are much more inspiring. Whereas the f/2 never got much mileage with me, I now use the 1.4 all the time, especially for portraits. Same thing, by the way, happened with the 23mm, where I traded the f/2 for the f/1.4. Those older lenses have a certain character that can’t be beat…
Did the same. Fou d the gap of the 23 was huge (the f2 is really bad at close focusing), the 35 less so but again, way more flattering with a close subject
My first video that I've seen of yours, subscribed! Fantastic images. The first three fuji primes all have the magic that only a couple of the newer ones can achieve. Including the 18 f/2 (as long as distortion correction is set to zero). Im blown away by your images. great video
I cant find that article that you mentioned in the video I love your videos and your photography is stunning. I am moving to Japan next month and you inspire me to use my photography gear. I can't wait to have your book come in!
Awesome shots and love this helpful review. I'm considering it! Good stuff. Does the lens hood come with the lens?! Or is this a separate buy? Would you mind posting a link or letting me know which lens hood this is? Thank you.
I'm thinking of getting this lens, paired with the X-T2 but I'm a bit worried about the lack of image stabilization... I am mostly interested in shooting street, a little portraiture and landscape. Do you think that's a good idea? Really enjoying your videos! :)
For sure, you very very rarely need IS for street photography and Portraiture. I can't remember the last time I used IS for street. For landscapes again, its not so important and a tripods will get you optimal results. In all, IS is mainly used for Video so I wouldn't worry too much about not having it for photography.
I had the 35mm f/2 for a couple of years, and fought the urge to upgrade to the f/1.4. The f/2 lens is terrific in every way, size, sharpness, AF speed, etc. And then, I gave in and bought the f/1.4. It was not long before I knew I made a good decision. It has a "look" that can't be measured or quantified, but the rendering reminds me of my film era Leica M Summicron. I guess "character" is a better word than magic or pixie dust , but there is something that makes it hard to take off the camera. Enjoyed your video.
Thanks for sharing, to be honest I couldn’t see they hype with the 35mm f1.4? I had both 35mm F2 & 1.4 did many side by side IQ comparisons. seriously whatever differences they may have? The difference we’re beyond my eyes and very negligible so I ended up selling the 35mm f1.4 mainly because how bad the AF was.
Thanks Elias, I mean the differences are small, the f2 has lots of advantages over the 1.4 too and I love using it. The faster aperture does however help a lot at night.
@@erenjam that’s true, but I rather get the basics in order first. & having an image sharp in focus is a must for my work, a lot of my work is capturing moving subjects, people are always walking dancing etc & with the F1.4 it just failed dismally when it came to AFContinuos I found with the F2 does a much better job and gave better keeper rate, but I guess choosing between these two lenses really this depends on what type of photography u do & it’s great Fuji are giving us two good options here.
I swapped both for touit 32, no regrets. 1.4 is clunky (noisy and slow), f2 is flat. 35 on aps-c is 52mm, too much, it seems weird. For vintage character I have Nokton.
Great to hear Marc. I use both, if the weather is bad I'm out with the f2, if im shooting in good conditions or at night it'll be the 1.4. Also, I prefer the f2's for travelling, they are a lot more robust.
Great video! Now that the 33mm is out, maybe consider doing a comparison between the 2? I'm leaning towards buying the 35mm, its looks so much cooler, yes I'm superficial don't judge me!!! haha Thanks in advance.

My fav lens with my 18-55. I was surprised to like it so much to be honest, I sold my 35 f2 , 23 f2 and my 55-200. WR not a big deal with a bag on, not so pretty but also works. Love the picstures with it also use tiffen pro mist 1/8. I think 33 1.4 WR will be way to big probably close to 16 1.4 size so its a no go for me and much more expensive. Got my 35 1.4 for a steal 200£ looking like new :) Lucky me.
My copy of the 18-55 seemingly matches my 35 f2 in sharpness, and I thought my copy of the f2 was great. But I much prefer the ooc colors from the f2. Can’t go wrong either way.
@@erenjam Its my fav Fuji zoom, size of it makes it super awesome comapring to 16-55 and other bigger heavier zooms. Its sharp IOS works great. Used is it snow, crazt rain with ise of plastic bag. Anyway jist my opinion.
@@finn4240 Lol sort of an off topic question, but I use a number of different bags. The one I use the most is the Trooper M messenger bag from Wotancraft. It's great for my Fuji kit- 1 body, 2-4 lenses, water bottle and small daily items. I love it but it's hard for me to recommend any of my bags without knowing what you're looking for specifically. It is not the most discreet bag.
@@erenjam And as always it's gonna be expensive and won't have all the good things. The same story with Fuji lenses: - Wide aperture, IF, OIS, R, WR, fast AF, LM, clutch focus ring, you can pick only 3. - but what if I want all those sweet things in the same lens? - JUST PICK 3!!!
Cool review, and nice photos, I really like output of that lens 😊 Also I love my xf35 f2, and I'm pretty happy with it, and I understand your need to have both 😁 Focal lenght is same, but little bit different output and it is great to have more light with 1.4 in dark! I hope rumored 33 1.4 will be nice too 😁
I wasn´t perfectly happy with the 35/f2 especially for portrait shots, it lacks some magic, thats why I sold the 35/f2 to get the viltrox 33/f1.4 ... autofocus and sharpness are amazing, but it isn´t a sexy as the 35/1.4 ... Fujis 35/f1.4 is still too expensive for having so many drawbacks
After firmware-updating for this lens in Camera , the AF-Speed is 80% of the speed of the 35 - 2.0 , so that´s helps a lot
the color of 35 1.4 is so organic and nostalgic at the same time compared to f2, idk but the color produced by this lens is so creamy and smooth
🙌🏼
Since I bought this lens 5 months ago, It literally hasn't left my camera.
I absolutely love it

👍👍👍 I’m getting the Fuji 35mm f1.4 today 🙂. I’ve been thinking for a long time whether to buy the 35mm f.1.4 or the f2. Well, I chose the “original”.
Good choice, 35 1.4 been attached to my camera for most of the year so far
Me to !! 3 months ago !! I REALY LOVE IT !!!
50mm is a hard focal length for me but def found the 35f2 too crispy. People looked almost 'cut out' in the images.
agree!
I love this lens. I wonder if the 33 1.4 will have the magic.
Will be interesting to see. It’s telling that fujifilm decided against remaking the 35 f1.4
Can this fit on an XT4? Sorry if that’s a noob question I’m new to Fuji lol

Why it is better to take the f2 in raining?
The f2 is water resistant
Hey man, 35mm on the x-pro 2 would be equivalent to shooting 50~mm due to the crop sensor?? Correct me if im wrong
Yeah thats right
Can’t wait for the new upcoming 33mm f/1.4. I sold and bought the 35mm f/1.4 twice, just couldn’t stand the autofocus noise and hunting.
