sources are telling me San marino’s song is in Spanish
Also edit, I love disko but they FUMBLED the live performance
the band literally competed in the Spanish selection last year (the one Blanca Paloma won)
Megara is a Spanish band and since San Marino national contest doesn't require to be from there, they took up the chance to take part and they won lmao
And the sources are telling the truth. Fun fact: Nebulossa (the Spanish) was trying to represent San marino in 2023
Thank god people told him. I find it funny he does not know that Megara spoke Spanish while wearing the t shirt of a Spanish football team
Correct its Spanish not Italian.
Dude just jinxed the Netherlands 💀💀
Everything makes sense now... its all maqwells fault!!1!
Yes ffs this dude nulled my bet
:(
"For some reason they also hate Norway" that aged pretty well😂
Man Norway's entry was one of the best. But I can't expect Eurovision fans to have good taste.
Lmao, when I heard him say this I was thinking boy do I have news for you
If Baby Lasagna wins, it would be equivalent to Denmark's 1992 Euro story. He wasn't even supposed to participate in Dora (Croatia's Eurovision song pick contest), he got a chance only because another contestant quit at the last moment. He didn't even write this song for Eurovision, it was supposed to be just an "album filler" song. It would be quite some story...
Well Denmark in 1992 took Yugoslavia's place in Euro
Thats how Ukraine won in 2022, the original representative was disqualified which resulted in Kalush being the representative and ending up winning, of course people will mention politics but still.
@Shinjiku nah, that song was a clear winner for me. Even without politics, the song was top 2 for sure 😉
@@Shinjiku I checked on Wikipedia and... Wow
@@Shinjikuat least Kalush was *competing* right there in Vidbir (Ukrainian selection).
Baby Lasagna wasn't even supposed to compete in the Croatian selection (Dora) if not for one of its participants withdrawing. That shows how inept the Dora selection committee was.
Babe wake up Maqwell's talking about Eurovision again
(Btw I'm really happy you're doing it again for this year's edition!)
Yeah me too love it
Btw joosts song actually has a deeper meaning it's dedicated to his parents who passed away when he was young
Yeah yeah definetly 💀 Where tf in the lyrics do you see something about his parents? (The end does not count since it technically isnt in the song, just an outro) Also, even if it somehow is about them, he should not use their death as a way to make the jury emotional and give him points.
@@KurwaNickMiZajelithe title
@@KurwaNickMiZajeliAS A DUTCH PERSON ITS TRUE SO DONT SAY THAT
@KurwaNickMiZajeli it's literally in the title of the song. "Papa" means dad or father in Dutch. Also joost himself confirmed this in multiple interviews. And it's not like it's the first time anyone in eurovision sings about someone who passed away or about family tragedies in general
@@studiobuckeycolours Still, nothing in the lyrics is about his dad, or mom.
I love how I clicked this video in 28 seconds
Lol... Did it in 28 Minutes
Lol... Uspeo posle 28 časova.
The backstory behind Europapa is even more incredbile than the song itself but unfortunately many people watching won't know it
Not only the backstory, the lyrics also show that. Idk what he’s saying about upbeat happy lyrics, they’re heart wrenching. He sings about how his traveling can’t cure his trauma from his parents dying before finally burning down his ‘childhood house’ to be able to move on with his life.
Banned
a backstory of a monotone queer doing the same sh*t that everyone does?
10:58 we can't go one video without a classic Maqwell mess up. SPANISH = ITALIAN🔥🔥🔥
To be fair its not unreasonable to expect San Marino to sing in Italian, even tho the country in Eurovision just kinda selects from the rejects of every other country lol
Us germans need to finaly send Electric Callboy....
That would be so hype, they would absolutely kill it
Yes 😂
I feel like we purposely send entrants that won't win so we don't have to host it
they would be last place.
Public Vote Win 100% bruder
I love how Eurovision has 37 countries competing and Maxwell casually ignored that one country nobody wanted in this year's Eurovision.
germany?
It should only be about the music, and it breaks my heart that everyone has to be like that, they should be included eitherway because It's music for goodness sakes, what makes it hurt even more is the fact that the song is actually great.
@@fluffypuffyboy586 No, the ones that are... doing bad things
@@mynexia9463 I agree, ignoring Israel is a disrespect to the people who live there because they didn't do anything, they where dragged into a war just as much as the Palestinians and it is just powerful people playing with civilian lives
Said country will end up in the Top10 🌀 💙
San Marinos entry is in Spanish btw. The band is from Madrid. Ironically they attempted to enter for Spain last year (notice the Benidorm line) while Nebulossa tried to enter for San Marino last year and now they both made it but for the other country.
Joost found his mother on the sofa as a 13yr old, a year after his dad passed away from cancer. She died of a cardiac arrest and that moment Joost lost everything and had go to into care. Hense the burning house at the end of his clip. He lived with an older brother for a while but ended up in crisis care. Most of the lyrics are about seeking help all over Europe but not finding it anywhere. Joost described his song as a collective of happy memories from the time he had both his parents and watched ESC back then. And he wants to give today's kids a fun song to remember they watched with their parents...like Joost did once. He even said to his parents: One day I'll be on that podium....
guess who wasnt on the podium.
@@overthelunforyou8592 Funny eh?
It was Joost's wish not to be filmed directly after coming off stage because he would be to emotional at that moment. Some camerawomen shoved a camera in his face directly after and refused to stop filming. Joost made a threatening move towards her to force her to stop filming. Then she filed a complaint. She was filming so there is evidence and that raises the question why they took so god damn long to decide before disqualifying him.
He was already harrassed by the Israeli KANN NEWS journalist who also harrassed the Irish and Greek singers and a Spanish Journalist. They all filed complaints but no santions were made against him.
@@duintje14 Hypocrisy is rampant nowadays ;)

JOOST KLEIN DROOM GROOT!!!!!! 1983!
12 POINTS TO THE NETHERLANDS!
😢
It's weird how you're not an Eurovision review youtube channel and somehow you make the best review videos on the subject!
Megara is singing in Spanish, because they are Spanish group that just took part in San Marino's qualification for Eurovision
A lot of San Marino’s representatives are Italian, which I think could be surprising to non-Europeans, the only San Marino representative from San Marino I remember is Valentina Monetta, and she represented three years in a row

we finally chose an artist thats actually used to performing and is a big name!
absolute banger
Anouk, waylon, Ilse de lange hadden allemaal ook ervaring
1983
I am so sorry Joost was disqualified... I am from Croatia and if we didnt win then Joost absolutely should have
Who's here after Joost Klein's disqualification? Honestly really sad.
He had a serious chance of winning. The EBU definitely did not make the right decision and we're going to let them know that, too!
Anyways, Europapa and Joost will never be forgotten, it's still a banger of a song. I had a lot of fun seeing Joost perform on stage for the Netherlands.
I do think this year's winner, Switzerland, has a very good song, and so has Croatia.
Better luck next year for the Netherlands 🍀🤞
ESC is always filled with double standards. They banned non binary flags from the competition but a non binary artist won.
ik
I'm a Eurovision addict and it's amazing to see someone usually not focused on Eurovision make a ranking video ! These are the best, nothing overanalyzed, just "I love this, I don't like this,..."
This being said it hurts to see Azerbaidjan and Slovenia so low on your list, but also finally someone who has this same awkward feeling about the Cyprus song !
please look up the meaning of Joost Klein's Europapa, because it has a deeper meaning than just happiness, it's about the death of his parents at a young age
for more information, LOOK IT UP!!!
and thank you for putting Joost Klein at the top of the list, he really deserves it after everything he's been through.
I recommend the video essay on Olly Alexander and Joost Klein by Overthinking Eurovision
Very sorry to say this, but Finland is NOT an SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRY. IT IS NORDIC. I can forgive you this once, but not again. Every single Finn will get mad if you call us Scandinavian, it is just in our blood. I even don't know why, but still DO NOT CALL US SCANDINAVIAN... THANK YOU.
Yup was gonna comment this as well
You could invade and take part of Norway then you could be part of Scandinavia
Compared to Denmark you actually have the Scandinavian Mountains in your country.
I consider Finland to be more so Norballs rather than Nordic the way I would consider Sweden or Norway to be, Denmark is Norsh*t though
I have bad news for you, it seems like all the rest of the world will call Finland Scandinavian. I honestly didn't know and I'll try to remember, but I gues somewhere this misconception has grown worldwide... I always thought all countries with that type of cross = Scandinavia.
Maqwell is really consistent with the jurgen klopp usage
Absolute tragedy that Joost Klein got disqualified.
They took Cha Cha Cha from us last year, and this year Europapa.
I wonder what banger will be screwed over in 2025
As an estonian- you did good🇪🇪lets hope we win AGAIN🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You got robbed
@@ElCooler we were done so dirty, fuck this Eurovision fr😃
20:45 There *has* been a song about Europe at Eurovision, "Insieme: 1992", with which Italy won in 1992, which celebrated the European Union and the fact that together (insieme) in 1992 we would be able to live and work (and love) in one another's country.
Please continue uploading this every year
I really like the slow ending, its quite unexpected I hope it isnt cut out to stay in the 3 minute limit.
Will never forget the San Marino part 2
Oh Norway. I adored you. You did not need to come last…
So happy to see another person love Europapa! I'm so proud of our submission this year and for Joost Klein it was a lifelong dream to perform at Eurovision. The reason the Netherlands is not number 1 in the odds is the jury. In the televote it might be 1st place, but the jury won't have it in the top 5 I expect.
1983
I felt sad when they excluded Joost Klein from the final. They said it was because of an incident in the backstage, and that probably was very serious incident as it lead to them getting excluded, but I am sad that the incident happened at all in the first place.
San Marino's song is in Spanish :)))))
As a British fan who really likes our entry, whinging about our own song every year is basically a national sport lol
Interesting. I would say UK has the worst song this year
@@wardje5195you were right 😂
As an Irish Eurovision fan this is the most hyped I've been for my country since 2011 and I feel that we have picked a great representative for us and no matter what happens I can be proud of my country this year and infootball terms it kinda like going from Sheffield United this season to Real Madrid. also during their second rehearsal they have makeup on them which had ancient Celtic writing which translates to Ceasefire.
How is that freak representative of us
80% of today's Jews are from the former Ottoman Empire, nobody who knows the history beliefs in the lie about settler colonialism.
@@yessir6947how is that boy band representative of you in 2023, just saying. I don’t see the ripoff version of the backstreet boys on Ireland
@@yessir6947 that "freak" is the best representation you've ever had in years
@@yessir6947their witchy theme gives me Morriggan vibes which gives me plenty of pride to have them represent Ireland. Comments like yours make me disappointed to have people like you be representative of Irish people.
There were some Europe-related songs in Eurovision's past. The first one that comes to mind is the 1990 winner "Insieme: 1992" by Toto Cutugno. Very anthemic as well.
I was thinking of Euro Neuro as well from Montenegro
Spain 2002 "Europe is living a celebration"
wasn't there also a song called "we are the winners of eurovision"?
Croatia is like mix between käärijä and electric callboy
bro no need to classify the video as "man with little music knowledge" because you don't classify your football content as "man with little football knowledge" you know us fans kind of just figure it out after a while
As a Finn I will never forgive the jury for 2023🤬
As a Finn I am kinda glad Sweden had to host the competition in the middle of this year's mess and not Finland.
@@thoubias honestly yeah😅
I’m from Sweden. I absolutley love Käärijäs music. But I wanted Sweden to win in 2023. Yes Ik it can be unfair bc We got so many points from the jurys. But the Jurys are the Og. Remember before when only jurys could vote in Eurovision.
Lithuanian here - I, too, am awfully upset a pandemic took away our one chance of victory :'))) love that you see shades of "On Fire" in "Luktelk" haha!
And your spot to Estonia warms my heart. 🫶
Excellent video ✨️
I actually thought it was Iceland s chance of winning 2020, but now I went to listen to “on fire” and yes it’s great and winning material. I love Luktelk as well, maybe my winner. Also appreciate Estonian as second here❤ greetings from 🇫🇮
Its the crossover I didn't know I needed it, but I want it! Edit: I am German and I hate how we always send the most boring songs. But there are rumours that Stefan Raab wants to produce the german selection next year. He is responsible for Lena and our win in 2010 and his entries always finish in the top 10. So let's pray
man i love slovenias 2022 entry 😭
Omg same
I still listen to it to this day

You have us, Croatia! 💥🇭🇷 If we win, I promise you will come back! As well as Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina! ❤️
Jdjbjskdhsj exactly the same from Slovakia, maybe one day we will meet there
The San Marinese song is in Spanish, Megara is a Spanish band and they have a pretty cool story - they competed in the Spanish selection last year and were rejected this year, didn’t make it through the semifinals at the San Marinese selection it got put through in a “second chance “ round, and then won the selection. Spain’s act, Nebulossa, competed in the San Marinese selection the previous year but didn’t make it past auditions. Crazy switch!
Samo su zamenili mesta i pobedili. ❤❤❤
one small correction and one fun fact about san marino:
-the song is actually in spanish since the band is from spain
-loredana berté, italian singer who was very popular in the '90s, tried to represent san marino by participating in the contest (unfortunately she came second). why? because she wanted to go to sweden. to pay a visit to her ex husband. bjorn borg. yeah, the tennis player.
In six hours' time I am off to Malmö for a week's Eurovision. Got tickets for all the three live shows, couldn't afford to get rehearsal tickets as well this year. We agree on a lot (Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, Estonia, UK) but way off with Azerbaijan which is my favourite!! The voice of the man with the moustache is beautifully haunting, and the song has a nice electronica beat to it which reminds me of my Buddha Bar chill-out remixes. Just makes me smile! I'll be looking forward to all 36 ;-) songs.
That's gonna be the only content related to the ESC that I'll watch because I love seeing people rank music
first time i listened to Croatia i fell in love, its very relatable to me. Also Ireland is amazing, the witchy themes, i'm very excited for live performance. Good ratings, i agree with most (except finland haha)
The live performance was amazing
Mother Teresa was a horrible person. Making a song about her sounds like a really bad idea.

"Soldi should have won"...well, welcome to the club!! He definitely should.
But, again...in so many years the runner-up song should have been the winning ones.
But unfortunately the world is not a fair place
I really enjoyed your video last year and im glad you decided to do one this year. Nice ranking.
Thank you for putting Estonia so high! They are my favourite this year and it always makes me sad to see them rank so low on other lists.

Maqwell San Marino is not singing Italian. It's Spanish.
haha joost got disqualified, gotta love this competition definitely not political only music right
Yea I had europapa added to my playlist last week and finding out now that it’s in Eurovision 🤣
Croatia needs to win Eurovision since they were robbed from winning World Cup in 2018
The robberies didn't stop this year...
OMG LETS GOOO
THE LONG AWAITED VIDEO
I wish Germany dared to send an alternative singer who sings in actual German
I also have very little music knowledge and watching you give your opinions is just fun. I like the idea of Eurovision (we could never have something like that over here), the absolute theater of it all and the drama from corruption to just regional bias it always finds itself in is just great tv.
I'll always remember Damiano David being incredible after winning for three things. No shirt, the liquor, and feet on the table. A modern day king.
great video, haven't watched any others from you so I don't know but nice work, and it surprises me watch someone from abroad (of Spain) with a Betis shirt haha. On the topic of songs about Europe itself, I would like to add that in the contest of 1990 for example, there were quite some songs because of the European Union treaties and stuff like that, but yeah, this topic could appear more than it currently does
as good as La Noia was, i still think Geolier was robbed at Sanremo
Nah I really gotta practice for my exams and then of course lord Maqwell had to bless us with posting this video...
Real rankings:
1. Europapa
2. Everything else
Yes.
.... I call Iceland's entry the "Weight Loss commercial" song not going to lie.
My top songs are Greece, Switzerland, Armenia, and France. But honestly, I really like most of these songs. I haven't even looked into what most of the songs mean, or even watched all of the music videos. It's based entirely off of the songs themselves. As someone who's nonbinary, finding out that it's what Nemo's song is about? That... explains a lot honestly.
Honestly, after finding out about the close ties between Luxembourg's song and the song a lot of us rank 37 and just don't acknowledge? I don't really want anything to do with it either, so it gets an automatic 35 from me. Would be 36, but that goes to Azerbaijan, because I honestly don't think they should even be allowed to participate personally given their actions in Armenia over the last several years. (I honestly listen to a playlist on spotify that just... fails to add them to this years eurovision playlist.)
I'm team Netherlands too. Slovenia way too low imo. Ireland are definitely one to watch, the rehearsal clips look sick. Also MEGARA are Spanish and the song is in Spanish. Literally anyone can enter the San Marino pre selection as long as you pay a fee, which in turn pays for San Marino's participation fees. Funnily enough, Nebulossa didn't even make the semis of San Marino a couple years ago, while Megara also completed in the Spanish pre selection last year. If you want more Eurovision, national final season is so fun and you end up with a playlist of bangers double the length of just the songs in the main competition.
bro you jinxed it lmao
megara, who is representing san marino, is a spanish band who the year before tried to win benidormfest (spanish national selection) but failed to make the cut also this year. so they said “fuck it” and tried applying for san marino and won it
San marino song is in spanish, not italian, cuz the band is from spain and they sing in spanish
I'm very suprised Olly Alexander from Years & Years is in this competition.

Amazing that you put Estonia in number 2. I really love that song and I hope it won't get overlooked🎉
I have to correct you there, in 1980 Belgium had a song called Euro-vision by the band Telex.
I’ve never watched EuroVision but I have watched every minute of last year’s video and this year’s video and you may yet convince me to watch one
