Proud owner of a 1979 Alfasud 1.2 with four speeds. A real surviver with no rust. Just 63 hp but boy what a joy to drive.

Lovely Alfasud - thanks for the content and the owner for keeping this in mint condition.

Bit like a FWD Subaru before it’s time. It wasn’t Russian metal that was the problem. The problem was the metal sheets would spend time outdoors during times between the refinery & the Sud Factory in Naples & then before painting too.

At last, a video that doesn't propagate the Russian steel nonsense that mainstream television channels do regarding these cars & even includes a mention of it in the thumbnail. This, of course, is a Gold Cloverleaf model from around 1983, the gold colour fades from the badge making it look silver.

It’s a cheap jibe easily refuted.

Yes, but the wonderful thing Dave, is that you had the courage to refute it in the thumbnail for your video & that's an amazing achievement! You are the very first to do so in the whole history of the internet & all Alfasud owners worldwide will salute you. Good work from a bloody good guy!@@davesclassicgaragetours

Credit to its owner/s, you rarely see a nice unmolested car, proof that with care they can last

I have a near identical Sud which came from South Africa. In Australia they detuned those by 10bhp for emissions. In South Africa they didn’t care, and…fitted a full 5 speed low ratio box. The S3 Suds had what was called a ‘drop box’, overdrive 5th. My interior is extremely different though, with check cloth. The lucky bit though was mine came from 32 years in a desert. However, that one appears to be in astounding condition. Any idea of the mileage or where it was kept in Oz? If the owner or indeed garage need any parts, SudShop have the lot and he’s owned 57 Suds. Raced one and is an absolute expert on Suds 💚🤍❤

Popped in today but the Sud was gone. The first three numerals are 448 and judging by the interior. I’d say 45k is about right. Not sure about it’s location but definitely somewhere dry and warm

In the uk the alfasud couldnt cope with our climate with the lack of rustproifing filling the box sections with foam definitely didnt help i took the front wings off a 5yr old one and there was no rust proofing to the inner wing rails from.day one hence completley rotten wing liners would have helped bad mud trap under neath top of front wings and door pillars

Congratulations, Dave, on not pursuing that Russian steel bollocks that every Ill-informed armchair critic feels compelled to peddle. It’s utter nonsense, of course! The main cause of their rust came down to shoddy work practices and industrial action that saw unpainted body shells stacked up outside, in the rain and humidity, before they were finished.

And they tell us Wikipedia is not to be believed. It’s all in there. I must admit I’ve been guilty of it in the past but it’s a tired old line that should have been binned yonks ago.
