- Step by step guide on how to tie your baby on your back. On this video my baby is one year old.
First, you need africa cloth(wrapper) or scarf that is up to 2 yards and then your baby as young as 6 weeks old to as old as 3yrs old.
OK here are the steps..
First, Place your baby on your back- make sure your grips are strong, then bend a little for easy control and gentel cover your baby with your cloth or scarf then tuck in on both sides just like tying a towel.
Then, slowly push your baby up so he can sit comfortably and then continue to secure him properly using the cloth.
Note: baby hands can stay in or out- its your preference, but my tip is to tunk hands in if you want baby to fall asleep quickly.
Finally, to get your baby out , NOTE if you are not used to this make sure you are standing by your bed or soft sofa incase you loss grip then baby can easy land on a safe place.
And that is it, remember practice makes perfect.

I was walking around my local shopping centre recently. My area is predominantly white folk. A gorgeous African mother walked past me with her baby on her back, just like this. It was honestly one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen ❤

I did this with both my boys, ESPECIALLY with them being 13 months apart. Im first gen American but of Ghanian descent. I grew up seeing this, from family and ladies in my church. So it came natural for me when I had my kids. It helps SO MUCH! Bc you are literally hands free! My boys would fall asleep in 5 minutes or less, EVERYTIME! So if do one at a time and put them both down for a nap. So I just went about cooking, laundry, cleaning. When done I’d put them to lay down and I would take a nap too lol. I miss those days!!!

She always looks peaceful and the baby is almost always asleep, while I am struggling around the store pushing a stroller while still holding my baby because inevitably she wants out of the stroller halfway through the shopping trip. When I was a child, Korean mothers also tied babies to their backs. There is so much more that I can do when the baby is on my back rather in front.

You need to use another clothe/wrapper to secure the bottom. You will tie it half way between his mid back and his bottom and tie it on your belly

The Áfrican way
Girl, I'd be scared to death to back into something or sit down forgetting the baby is strapped to my back. I see why you do it when living in Nigeria, with the hustle and bustle in that country however, I don't see it very necessary in more laid back countries
It’s more about preference then necessity. I essentially replaces a stroller.
I live in Germany (super laid back) and always see how western mums struggle pushing their kids on escalator blocking others and receiving crazy stares. Elevators in train stations are easily dysfunctional or busy, mums miss their train connections waiting for elevator to get to their floors.
Train station escalators have a sign stopping strollers with kids from coming through.
Solution? TIE YOUR BABY ON YOUR BACK IN THE SO CALLED LAID BACK COUNTRIES & YOU WON'T MISS YOUR TRAINS OR BREAK LAWS GOING ON ESCALATORS.

Waste of time. I think it is careless to carry a child on your back. Your baby should always be visible in front of you. You don't have to do that in 2024. This is ultimate carelessness. I never understand why these women are so careless.
It is cultural and has been done in African countries for generations. If it's not for you, then you don't need to worry about others who benefit from our traditions.
Please enlighten us on what else we “don’t have to do in 2024”

Not making this a racial issue, and I have no clue the race of the person behind that ignorant comment, nor does it matter, but I find it funny that white women are on trend with baby wearing/wrapping in 2024 and teaching others how to do this with the most complicated and expensive material, and here this mama has shown such a simple way traditionally per her culture. Beautiful that we're still into this in 2024 🎉
Also, the traditional ways that African women have been wearing and comforting their babies for generations are now the standard in the west. Please check out Pediatrician Harvey Karp’s book The Happiest Baby on the Block.

How is it cold? Cold is putting your baby down and letting them cry because you are busy. I searched this because when I tied her to my front it was difficult to do tasks while she is against my chest so being on my back is easier for both of us as she is still close to me and I can still get things done around the house. This is a very ignorant comment, if you don’t understand the culture that’s fine but do not insult and called the technique cold
