- One of our major concerns with a boat this large and powerful is, what would we do if the main sail wouldn't come down, particularly at night, particularly as a squall is approaching? Well, that's exactly what happens in this week's episode, after a 250 nautical mile passage to Langkawi.

Hey there! We're Nick and Terysa and we’ve become completely obsessed with the idea of sailing around the world and sharing our experiences and information through our sailing lifestyle videos with others.
We met travelling around India, and quickly agreed that rather than “settling down” and doing what most normal people do, we wanted to travel and have adventures! We moved onto our 38 foot monohull in 2014, sailed across the Atlantic twice, cruised the Caribbean, Bahamas and Europe, before buying a brand new 45 ft catamaran!

NEVER seen a new boat with sooo many basic problems. Makes you at a minimum question the manufacturers quality control and test procedures.
Always enjoy your videos. Surprised by some of the problems cropping up with this boat. It's not like the mast and sail is some exotic new tech with lots of kinks still to be worked out.
Night Vision Monocular - Have you considered having one? They are very affordable now, a good Bushnell is less than $300us. Great for when you pull into an anchorage at night... A Thermal Monocular would be great in fog and other times, also in the $300us price range. Both would be nice to have when looking out for pirates. 🎉

Hey Guys I'm a fellow long term cruiser currently in Indonesia HOT. I have marine cruiseair air conditioning which is fine but a bit heavy on power and not really usable overnight on battery power. So I installed a household 1hp Carrier split system air conditioning system and its amazing. In eco mode min 24 degrees Celsius. It only uses 350w it's also silent, cheap, and makes life so much better being able to sleep in comfort. Just need somewhere to put the outside unit. We cover ours up when not in use. Have fun 😊⛵

From what I've seen across TH-cam all of you sailors come into problems, and frequently. The good news is how sharp you sailors are. You stay sharp! Happy(er) sails!
Nice views of teh Malaka Staright. Beautiful sail. The broken main is just a blip. When sailing there is always need something to take you away from relaxing and letting your thoughts wonder.

Several times I've tried things that sounded gross, but you can't say they're horrible if you haven't tried them first, and I ended up loving the "gross" things - peanut butter and jam/jelly sandwich, cheese and marmalade sandwich, avocado on toast, strawberries and balsamic (or basil, or black pepper) yadder yadder yadder.
Banana on a pizza just sounds wrong! I must try it

Pineapple, hot pepperoni and cheese is the bomb on a pizza.
32°C - in Australian that's nice an warm, not yet warm enough to turn the AC on, you can't say ridiculously hot until it's over 45°C 🤣
32 out at sea always seems hotter than on land, it’s probably the lack of any shade from any direction along with the reflection. I’d rather 45 and no humidity than 32 in the build up.
@@maccant4707 Yeah it's a personal preference thing, Id rather have 32 and 100% humidity, I loved the weather when I lived in Singapore, but the dry heat vs humid heat hits differently and affects people differently. but I prefer both to anything below 20°C (after 30 years of
living with arthritis I'll do anything to avoid being cold)

The same happened to me this week. Brand new sail and first trip out with a mate I thought it was sticky in the main slot. Two blokes, we managed to haul it down. Second trip out with the missus this week and we're both trying to get the thing down. Difficult.... Anyway the mainsail slides are short, slightly wider at the waist and grooved causing them to stick. New sliders ordered for pick up tomorrow.
Nick in a quick squall that could have been a very bad day. Grab bag bad. Please show how this failed with not to many beeps. HAHAHA.

If you had left Admiral Marina early pre dawn or even during the night then you would have arrived in Langkawi in daylight. Always easier to leave a known place in the dark than to arrive in an unknown place in the dark.
We left at 6am, you're right, we could have left the night before and spent two full nights at sea instead of just one, we preferred to take the chance and arrive at night, knowing the anchorage was very straightforward to enter. Not always the right call, we've chosen the other option many times too.

Not surprised you had a scary lightning show off the coast of Florida. The Southern US (Eastern) has lightning almost every day/night during the summer and into the fall, but then it will also happen the rest of the year just not as often but more often than most places.

Do you ever use the screecher? Lots of drag and windage with it up all the time.
Nick, they are dorky looking but the flashlights worn on a strap around the head leave you hand free to work on things. There are cheap Eveready brand models and expensive biking models.
Have had furling sail that didn't furl, After 2 hours of flogging sail ripped in half. Also entering river I'd never been at night. Engine no start.

Naive question as a non sailor.. With regards to the countless fishing boats that are referred to. There is this reference to these fishing boats that they can detect them. .. Are all these fishing boats equipt with a device to be picked up in general? Sorry for my naive question.
Does your system allow you to put a "Track Line" on you? Try clicking on your boat on the display and see if it gives the option to track.

I hate ya'll seem to be having so so many issues with the new boat. It just seems it's always something. Still it's such a nice one that i guess even the worst day on the ruby rose beats beating around in a 21 footer.

I just can’t fathom spending that much on a new boat and not having 24/7 climate control. The world is a big place and the climate varies greatly from country to country.
