The sheets are a new thing, but clay walls are literally ancient, being the very first material people egnet built houses with. And Germany has an unbroken tradition for working with clay walls for the half-timbered houses.
It's coming on really nicely. Really enjoying the progress on the house, week by week. Now that the walls are going in properly, are you leaving any treasures for the next owners to find?
It's so strange that prefabricates from clay and straw are somehow new products- that said, I'm really happy they're being developed:) Prost, happy new year!
I have so much envy for the quality of materials available in Europe in general and Germany especially. I remember about 8 years ago visiting Germany, and in the cottage I stayed in I would open and close doors and drawers over and over just to marvel at the weight and quality, and yes, elegance.
When doing so much joints, get a hawk , best thing I ever added to my tools. You can add, remove so easy some materials, you can bring more with you, without dragging along a bucket. 100% recommend.
I think the fabric / flex Laura mentions will be some kind of render mesh, which will reinforce the plaster and prevent it from cracking along the joins of the boards. These boards are so exciting! I would have loved to use these in my house 5 years ago!
It is so awesome. I wish I had a house with clay walls! (I have nearly 100-year-old oak behind plaster/drywall that you can't put a nail through). I love your green sensibilities and dedication. Awesome teamwork!

I wish we did more stuff like this in the US. So much building material goes straight to the landfill, whether it’s from demo or somebody screwing up the new stuff. Can you do that with the clay instead of using plaster?
It’s like modern buildings merging back to adobe style/cob style houses. Pretty neat for companies to realize how great cob is as a building material and insulator.
Looks like a very cool product, should the mesh not have gone over the joints before being filled? Its what you would do when drywalling so interested to hear why its done this way. Very cool though love the fact its just clay, reminds me of the cob house my friend built ❤️❤️
I'm surprised the paper side goes against the studs? I guess that's so the plaster applies better? The special screw bit is almost essential to this application in my opinion. Really interesting episode.
