한중일은 겹치는 발음이 있는게 한자문화권이라 일본어 제목의 뜻을 한자로 바꿔서 한국은 한국식으로 읽고 중국은 중국식 일본은 자기네들 발음으로 하니까 비슷한거고 미국은 주술회전처럼 쓰이는 영어가 없으면 일본어를 영어표기로 해서 읽는거고 영어표현 있으면 바꾸는거임
센과 치히로의 행방불명의 영어이름이 스피릿 어웨이가 된 이유가 카미카쿠시 라는 일본어가 우리가 아는 단순 행방불명이 아니라 신이나 요괴에 의한 행방불명(흔적도 없이 사라짐) 이란 뜻이어서 일본어 뜻에 맞춰 번역이 된게 아닐까 싶네요 ㅋㅋㅋ👍👍👍
We call it Spirited Away in English because it’s a pun on the supernatural element of the film but also “ to be spirited away” in English means you were taken away suddenly in a hurry but you didn’t know where you were going at the time.

어우... 영어 울렁증...
카미카쿠시라는 단어 자체가 한국에는 없는 표현임. 단순히 사라지는것도 아니라서 일본 문화를 잘 아는 사람 아니면 이해할 수 없는 뜻임. 이 뜻 설명하는데만 수백글자 써야할 정도. 그래서 일본 외의 국가에서는 아예 표현 불가능이라 한국은 행방불명이라고 표현했고, 미국은 애매하게 스피릿이라는 표현을 쓴 거고, 중국은 표현을 포기한거임

이름이 짱구인 이유는 영상에서 말했던 이유+ 짱구가 '이마나 뒤통수가 남달리 크게 튀어나온 머리통. 또는 그런 머리통을 가진 사람.'이라는 뜻을 가지고 있고 짱구의 감자머리를 잘 표현할 수 있는 단어인 것 같아서 이래저래 로컬라이징 작명을 잘 한 것 같네요.

"Spirited away" is the literal translation of kamikakushi in the Japanese title :)
Spirited away also gives off that the characters spirits are being taken. So yeah it makes sense.
In Italy we called "La Città Incantata" The Enchanted Town🤣🤷🏻

Shin chan did come out in the US! It was dubbed and released by Funimation. No one here would consider it a kids' show though.

The Vitello/Phuuz English dub predated the Funimation one by several years, ran for over a hundred episodes, and kept the series mostly in tact, if censored. That one used to air on Fox Kids and Jetix.

Hi Dave, this is another great English/Japanese/Chinese/Korean translation video! It's quite funny to know the big differences, especially with Detective Conan, when it's titled Case Closed in US.
I hope you could do this same content with Southeast Asian translations. For example, Rurouni Kenshin is popularly known in the Philippines as Samurai X.
In English, the Ruroni Kenshin OVA was called Samurai X, too.
Yeah in Indonesia too, when I was looking for old anime with my friend in Jakarta the also called is Samurai X, Detective Conan, its called crayon shinchan but they just called it Shinchan

한자권에 있는 나라 한중일이 한자식 발음을 쓰면 비슷한게 참 많음. 영상에서 유독 중국과 한국이 발음이 비슷한게 많은게 그런이유인듯. 다만 일본은 한자식발음보다는 일본식 발음을 많이 써서 차이가 좀 있는게 아닐까. 만약 일본도 한자식으로 읽으면 비슷한게 많을듯.
에리나가 강철의 연금술사 영어 발음에 환장하는 이유가 강연금 애니보면 중간에 장면 전환씬이 나오는데 영어로 강철의 연금술사 제목을 외치면서 넘어가기 때문입니다

I have no idea if this is true, but I always assumed that the US version went with "case closed" because the name Conan is tied so closely with Conan the Barbarian in English.

모노노케히메는 97년도 애니메이션인데, 국내 개봉을 2003년에 해서
그 사이에 어둠의 루트로 보던 사람들은 '원령공주'라고 불렸고, 2003년 국내 개봉때 공식 제목이 모노노케히메
알고 있던 제목 모르고 있던 제목 다 알게되니 넘 좋네요ㅎㅎㅎ

Bro attack on titan is not grammatically incorrect lol. If you’re attacking titans, it’s an attack on titans.
The only problem with it is that it has a totally different meaning from the original title. The original means, The Attack Titan (or the titan that it is advancing/attacking)
No, it's a sentence fragment and it sounds awkward.
Normally you'd have "The Attack on a Titan" or "Attack on the Titan".
Also to your other point, "The Attack Titan" doesn't mean a Titan that's attacking. For that you'd want "The Attacking Titan"
"The Attack Titan" means that the Titan is in a distinct category for attacking. i.e. an attack helicopter is a helicopter built for combat rather than transport, but that doesn't specify what the helicopter is doing. It could be chilling on the ground, but it would still be an attack helicopter.

It's interesting to me that the Korean and Japanese titles would literally translate to "Your name is" but most english-speakers would find the "is" weird so they dropped it

Lol not once did I think of chinchillas, I guess Totoros are sorta real 😂 And Spirited Away definitely matches with Kamigakushi. Westerners don't really have that culture of kami and spirits in everything, and ofc spirits taking you 😅 But I still thought that was a fanciful pretty way to put it into English ⛩️

Ruroni Kenshin english localisation is called Samurai X. I only found out about the Japanese name when internet started becoming a thing.

Weirdly, Shin-chan _was_ aired in the UK as a kids' show in the early 2000s, I remember watching it as a child. This was before the Funimation dub, so I don't know where that dub came from.

미국에도 짱구 방영 했었어요. Cartoon Network라는 채널이 심야에는 Adult Swim이라는 이름으로 성인용이라긴 뭐하고 어린이가 보긴 뭐한 애니메이션 위주로 방영 했었는데 거기서 방영 했었어요. 그리고 짱구라는 한국이름도 굳이 그렇게 지은 이유가 그때 당시에도(90~00년대) 일본느낌 나는건 편집해서 지우던가 현지화 시켰어요. 야키소바는 짜장면으로 바꾸는 등. 포켓몬스터도 일본흔적 지운다고 한국에서 아예 방영 안한 회차 많아요.

I love these videos, it’s been so long since I’ve seen one. I just wanted to say that shin Chan did come to the US but it showed late at night on adult swim with full metal alchemist, ruroni kenshin, and gundam seed from like 10:30pm to like 5am
한자가 각 나라마다 발음이 비슷해서 한자가 많이 들어간 제목이면 영어권을 제외하면 비슷할거구.. 카캡체나 나히아는는 영어를 가타가나로 표기한거라 일,영,한의 제목이 비슷할수밖에.. 중국은.... 고유의 발음이 있으니 어쩔수없지..

바람의검심은 루로우니라는 단어가 나그네라는 뜻으로 만든 단어라서 바람같이 불어왔다 언제 떠날지 모르는 나그네를 나타내고 검심은 켄신이란 한자이름을 한국어로 그대로 읽은거에요 나름대로 루로우니켄신을 한국식으로 번역한거임. 나그네켄신은 뭔가 멋이 없으니까

한중일은 한자를 직역해서 생각보다 비슷한데 영어는 그냥 다른 언어라 의역하거나 그냥 음가를 차용하거나 대놓고 오역을 할수 밖에없네..

슬라이퍼가 누구냐? 바로 유희왕의 배급을 담당하던 4KIDS라는 회사의 프로듀서의 이름이었음..

I believe we actually did have Crayon Shin-Chan in America. It was licensed by Funimation and aired on Adult Swim. I watched it as a kid.
