  • I would like to share my personal experience with the $400 Sim Racing Budget, so you will have a head start on this wonderful journey.
Don't get me wrong, the Thrustmaster T248 is a great wheel and is made to a price, but to me felt more like a toy than an actual Sim Racing Tool.
Once you get past this budget, things start to really increase in quality and this also show on how the user experiences these tools.
The Thrustmaster T-GT II was a very welcome but necessary upgrade to get the most out of the game, from Force Feedback, Torque and responsiveness, to road feel through the wheel.
Please enjoy the video, and if you enjoyed it, consider a like and subscribe!

I agree with your take 100%!
I also got a used T248 for sub $250. Personally impressed with it but felt that if I were to pay the MSRP - I would have been disappointed.

I got the t248 as a upgrade from the g923 it was much better I was thinking of buying the tgt2 at first but it was to expensive so then I found the t248 in my opinion it felt way better the pedals were the biggest upgrade the screen was pretty useful to me it’s pretty good for its price in my opinion

i just bought the t248, i got it recommended from someone who owns a 3K sim setup. And I gotta say, also coming from a driving force GT, this feels so good. I will probably upgrade in the future, but not near as fast as you did :p

On console, my honest opinion is to stay away from the low end, just go for a nice one right away. I’m a strong advocate of the tgt2, if ur in the eco system already. If not, go for the fanatec csl dd, or gt dd pro on PlayStation, which is more expensive but absolutely worth it. When gt 7 came out I got a Logitech 923 and shifter and loved it, but me being me I fell into the rabbit hole, went to t248 and got the shifter and hand brake, then took that back and got a t300, and then got a tsxw for Xbox, then got a defective tgt2 for 300 bucks (power supply turbo thing was broke, one from tsxw fixed it). So ending up with 3 bases I sold those three for gt dd pro, which works on Xbox and PlayStation so now I don’t have to keep swapping bases. I missed the tgt 2 so today I have the gt dd pro and tgt 2, inverted fanatec pedals, shifter hand brake, dual Sparco handbrake and sequential, th8a and th8s shifter on 2 different rigs.

For Christmas 2023 I got the t248 and NLR wheel stand lite. I soon upgraded the pedals to the TLCMs and soon after upgraded the wheel stand to a cockpit. The load cell pedals had me pushing the wheel stand all over the room., so I upgraded to a Playseat trophy. I then told myself that’ll I’ll be happy until thrustmaster puts out their console DD wheel. That was a lie. I am now impatiently waiting for my Logitech Pro wheel and pedal set to arrive hopefully in the next 3-4 days.

I love it, the quality is solid. I’d recommend it so long as you’re okay without extra peripherals for now… and the forceable future.

Did not start with sim racing, I started with ETS 2 and TDU 2 at the time, had a logitech driving force GT, was good to me for about 4-6 years, I slowly drove less because I got bored of ETS2. Eventually I sold the DFGT as I wanted to upgrade, got the folding Next level racing set up and a T300RS with the TH8A shifter, with it I drove in assetto corsa and kept that until I was moving, and sold it, because it was too big to bring with me. Actually I am thinking of buying the same set up again right now, T300RS with TH8A and a stand is about as cheap as I would go, the T300RS is belt driven so while it does not have the force of a direct drive, it does have the constant forces, which makes it a decent choice for flexibility since you can also use it for drifting.

I never hear of a sim racer talk about sunk cost like I've spent enough" it's always, I can do better if I buy .....

Got a Moza r5 at first, and upgraded it 1 month later with an r9. Better save some more money and get something that is nice. Next bigger step would be a nice pedal set, saved up 1000€ for it. Dont want to make the same mistake twice. Luckly i went with an full custom alu rig to start off, so im good with that.

I got VNM X (simplified V1) pedals for about 450-500 euro worth, and it's more pedal than I personally need for my uses. You'll get a hell of a set for 1000 euro, but you don't need to spend that much if you're fine with a loadcell.

tbh. if you get the VR first you sorta forget about the wheel, pedals and cockpit flex.

If you think sim racing is expensive try being a guitar player.

I went in 2 months from a fgt-lite and a g29 to a logitech pro with pro pedals and the playseat trophy g edition with psvr2. Buy cheap means buy twice.
Wonder how long it takes you before you want to upgrade to a DD wheel

If you're not a console user, you can now buy a Fanatec direct drive for the same price as a T248 or T300.
