Excellent info, thanks for the video. Being quite a Fordson tragic myself, knew what the raised power take off was but actually had know idea of how it worked or the internals of, well can learn something everyday.
As I understand it, this type of arrangement became standard equipment towards the end of the Farm Major series and continued on to the Super Major. Happy to be corrected on that one though. cheers.

I really like your videos. Have not watched all of them yet, but little by little and so on. Very informative and well presented.
I have a Major witch is a bit of a mystery. My registration and serial on the engine says it´s a 1955, but castingcodes on the rear suggests -58. It has a factory-mounted Horn-draulic front-end-loader (the exhaust goes through the hood instead of outside and it looks original to me), dual clutch and raised PTO. That dual clutch is golden when using the front-end-loader since I don´t have to put gear to neutral with clutch up to operate the loader with the tractor standing still.
And since I have a simple weather-protection-cab on my tractor, I hace to mount and dismount from the rear and then I am very happy that the raised PTO stays off when I need to leave the tractor for any reason.
I use this tractor most for snowremoval (blade on the 3-point and bucket in loader) on my yard (live in Sweden) and lifting things around in the summertime, and some leasure-cruisin´.
Since the front-end-loader has mecanic bucket-tilt, I have fitted an electric winsch to help operate the bucket. Works very well. I still need the mecanic pin to lock the bucket durning digging, but then the winsch and wire can carry the loaded bucket in any angle desired and of course emty and retract the bucket as I wish.
Best of luck with your nice tractor and best regards from the other (top?) side of our globe!

I commented on one of your other videos asking what this was, now that I know, I've just looked online at the price of one. There's one for sale in Southampton UK for 1250 GBP (2400 AUD).😮😮

Thanks for the detailed videos mate. I have currently just started doing a Major up, but i have started the other end with the engine first. Are you going to be doing your engine and that also?

Appreciate the feedback, luckily my engine is in good condition, I will do some videos of replacing pipes, gaskets and oils etc. If you haven't already got one I suggest getting a repo workshop manual.

The other advantage with the Raised PTO is it puts the PTO output shaft at a more convinate height and lifts the engine revs from approx 1200 to approx 1600 rpm for PTO revs at 540 where the engine will develop more power. Thank you for the informative videos I am enjoying them. Will you be changing the seal between the gearbox and rear axel housing ? On my tractor the two oils level out and I have to replace all the seals you are currently changing. My poor old Major has been laid up for a few years because we started this job and got distracted, it needs to get back on the list.

They were ideal for PTO powered hay balers on undulating ground by giving better clearance between the tow hitch and PTO shaft. I will eventually get to splitting the tractor when my rear axle shafts are back in and I can roll them apart. Thanks for the feedback!

@@fixingfordsonsaustralia6632 Do your Fordsons have the Australian fitted Yuba spark arrestors ? There is a fellow in Ballarat making high quality replicas the vintage tractors. He can even do the kinked angles to fit the early manifolds that come out under the bonnet sending most exausts on a lean. I found him on ebay

My latest video is literally about the Yuba's. Filmed it last night and uploaded this evening. My Major has an original Yuba, my 1947 E27N has a straight pipe.

Correct David They were regarded as a huge tractor when they first came round to the farming area where I grew up In Ireland I never owned one Jumped to Ferguson after the E27 N The raised PTO gear was a rare attachment generally used for driving rotary hoes and combine harvesters My Neighbour bought a new Power Major which I drove mowing hay and all those years later I realize why he used to tell me not to rev it too fast as it would shake the beep out of the sickle bar mower as it had direct PTO and as far as I know most of the Super Majors were live drive PTO and Hydraulics anyway keeps the old mind young Thank ye all

      @@paddymickiemickie8221 Greetings to Ireland.
The major was a very popular tractor here in Australia. The Raised PTO was fairly common and has been pulled off wrecked tractors and reused so they have survived. Harvesters here in their day were generally PTO so the raised PTO was popular. I have never seen one on any UK tractors on TH-cam

Great video. Probably a stupid question
but. When you remove the raised pto housing does the shaft come with it?

    • @fixingfordsonsaustralia6632

The PTO shaft will stay in the main housing. The shaft has a gear on the end and this seperates from the corresponding gear in the Raised PTO housing.

What is the secret to getting the raised PTO into gear with the engine running? Mine will disengage easily but I cant get it to engage with the engine running. I have to stop the motor, engage the PTO and then start the tractor again

    • @fixingfordsonsaustralia6632

Could be a possibility that your clutch is not disengaging all the way. For me, I just have to depress my clutch, wait for a bit as the PTO shaft slows, and then engage the PTO lever. Hope this helps.
