Awesome...I can’t believe how hard it is too find the “real deal” Usgi ponchos these day. TG I have mine from the 90’s as well.

I use the hood as the stuffsack, but your cuff setup looks far neater!

I was issued two ponchos when i was in the military. I always rolled them into the hood and tightened the chin strap. I always carry two to this day. Just habit I guess now. Never sprayed it or did anything to them. I guess maybe I should probably get that done. They have never leaked, I actually just used them a couple of days ago in a down pour, (my wife used one), no leakage.

I would think that the paracord would damage the fibers. I like the role method the best. 👍💯

Informative, but camo on patchy grass is difficult to see.
Contrasting background makes it easier to see details.

Great tips. TBH my favorite part was when you said there is no "right" way to fold a poncho. Thanks for sharing.

When you're rolling a wet poncho, roll it into the hood, but turn the hood inside out (dry side out) over the roll to keep the rest of your gear dry.

I’ll answer, it’s genuine military issue. I’ve had two since 2011 which I bought from a UK military surplus that stocked USGI kit. I also got a liner at the same time. I always carry at least one (depending on weather). Fair and warm, one’s enough, cold &/or windy, I use two studded together with a couple of trekking poles to make a fully enclosed tent with half of the studs at the centre to open and use as door.

The Drill will tell you there IS a right way and you are a NO-GO at this station, lol. Fasten all fasteners. Lay out poncho front side up. Fold each side in to the opposite edge of the hood overlapping by about 6". Fold the sides in again, this time by 1/3 the width. Adjust so width is uniformly 6". Fold lower edge 3". Tightly roll toward hood, adjusting as necessary to maintain a neat 6" wide roll. When you approach the hood, fold it toward you and continue rolling. Fasten to pistol belt with two blousing straps so that the loose end is over the top of the pistol belt and the edge is even with the bottom of the belt. If storing in ruck or patrol pack, the poncho may be rolled into the hood then dressed to form a neat 6" x 3" bundle.

🤣🤣🤣…….how on earth did I manage to complete 24 years in the army without a film showing me how to fold a poncho? What a sad world we live in.
