    Very cool idea. With my belt kit I usually just went rifle outside poncho and the lower mag pouches are pretty easy to access under the bottom. However anyone other setup I think this is the way to go especially to conceal your weapon and gear similar to the early troops in Afghanistan

    For all it's perks and versatility, the poncho has one major drawback, if it's raining, and your humping up a mountain, your getting wet regardless, just not with rain water. You can fling it open to vent, but really your choices are, wet from rain, or wet from sweat. Personal preference maybe.

    Its poncho over everything for me. Keeps everything nice and dry, just gotta be mindful of internal moisture fogging stuff up.
    If I've got time to dig into my ruck I got time to move a poncho. If rounds are flying than staying dry isn't even on my mind.
    Also the poncho flipped to the side and back looks LotT Dunedain Ranger stoic AF. 😁

      Do you think gortex ponchos could remedy the moisture? If they make one in in gortex, as it has tiny holes just big enough to let vapor through but not liquid water.

    • @p4inmaker
      @p4inmaker หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chupachuuups706 Goretex doesn't work when it's actually wet. You'd be better off wearing a poncho with vents, but that could make it less useful as a tarp and increase cost(less than goretex, but still).

    One point to note (I’m very interested to hear if you have a good way to counter this) is that I have run a rifle under my poncho in wet weather and when i pull my rifle out my optic is completely fogged over. This is another in the list of items that have recently been turning me toward iron sights because of the extreme simplicity and versatility of irons.

    Bit weird to do with a waterproof nylon poncho, but if you changed the cut of the poncho to be more similar to an old school right side opening cloak flipping the poncho open might become a bit more elegant. You (hopefully) shouldn't get that pile up on your right shoulder, giving you a clear shoulder for shouldering your rifle. This is essentially medieval sword drawing tech.
    Cutting a right side arm slit would however compromise it's utility as a backup shelter.

    I'm curious to know if the poncho is: 1). Produced in OCP, and 2). Still issued to Marines/Army servicemen as standard equipment? I know that the ECWCS gear has become more and more available to the Army, but the poncho (and liner) just seem(s) like it(they) are just versatile enough pieces of individual gear that they should still round out part of a servicemen's basic equipment issue.

    • @PreparedAirman
      @PreparedAirman  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, they have them in OCP/Multicam.
      The issue part is hit or miss some units still issue then and others do not.
      I have been issued a poncho liner at every unit except for one so far.
      As for the poncho I've had only 2 units that issued the poncho.
      I Have always been issued level 6 or Gortex top and bottom.
