Oh my god Kim! Another adult woman who LOVES this game?! Thank the gods I found you. I have been obsessed with this game before bed. It’s just so perfect to relax and enjoy a game without it being overly boring or overly stressful. I loved the emphasis on treasure hunting. I’ve always loved DQ games but now that I’m older I have kids and a job and house and marriage… gaming gets pushed to the side a bit and games like this fit that spot perfectly for me. I cannot explain how happy this video made me!
I do hope that with Dragon Quest XII that they keep the turn based combat. I do enjoy the other Dragon Quest games that offer different types of gameplay, but I want the main games to hold onto to the more classic Dragon Quest gameplay.

So the only worry i have is this would be like final fantasy maxima where it was super catering to small children. You make a reference to the Galaxy Express 999, which I never heard of before, but you make no blatantly obvious reference to them ripping off Dragon Ball Z's collecting of "7 dragon balls" and the 3 1/2 castrated dragons that are missing those balls, lol. This is the first video I've watched of yours, TH-cam suggested it. I'm 52, and a lifelong gamer, (and a Square Enix Final Fantasy fanboi for life) ever since Santa brought me *THE* very first video game console, Pong by Sears!, for Christmas 1977. I'm like Johnny though, a weird, guy with an eclectic taste in games. I go from fantasy MMOs (Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 in March 2003, FF14 2010-2017) & hardcore games like GoW Ragnarok, but I definitely play farming games. I played Farmville for 5 years and loved their Star Mastery system, planting 1000s of the same crop to master it. I will be buying Harvestella eventually, and also this game.
This is the definition of a Bargain Bin game (not necessarily a bad thing). It does everything decent but nothing well. It definitely does NOT warrant the premium price point it was released at. 1) The graphics are decent for the switch but nothing impressive. Textures are bland and pop in is prevelent. 2) The Gameplay loop is extremely simple, but gets boring. 3) The amount of monsters to collect is criminally low for a Dragon Quest game that boasts hundreds of monsters.
You say it's for hardcore DQ fans, but I disagree, I think this is targeted towards Pokemon fans and any monster collecting gamers. It is a nice easy entry into the DQ universe, so if you like it you will probably like other DQ games. I will recommend that you check DQ: Builders 2 if you enjoy this.

I love DQ games. And this one is a ton of fun. It is like builder's in the way you can just get lost doing stuff. I love that you have thousands of items, weapons, statues to find in various states of quality. 4 of 5 stars.
Looks interesting. I wish you could control the monsters you recruit. When I first bought DQ 8 (my first DQ game) I was kinda disappointed it was a turned based game but I fell in love with the series. DQ 11 is my favorite. With that said, I'm glad they finally made this one an action rpg.
All I wanted was a demo. See when you mention the graphics being iffy, it reminds me of the DQXI Definitive Switch demo, where the faces of characters were super blurry and the grass would blur and sharpen with every step, it drove me nuts. Now I have the Definitive version on PS4 & while it doesn't look as good as the vanilla version, it's much better. Also, DQ Treasures is a brand new spin-off, like you said, you really don't know anything about it until playing. I really wanted a demo, demos sell games & Square just refuses to release one. I originally threw this on my Christmas list for family & then removed it cause it's a big question mark game & now I wanna see how it looks for myself, graphically, before ever buying it. Harvestella meanwhile, which actually got a demo, I know I want thanks to the demo & is the only game on my list this year.
Your review confirmed what I hoped for -- that it'll be a game for me. I'll do something I haven't done in forever: tomorrow morning, I'll be heading to my local Gamestop and will pick up the game day one. :)
This game was originally supposed to be a new Dragon Quest Monsters game but they scrapped that and made it into Dragon Quest Treasures. What a shame. Really would have liked a new Monsters game after so many years of the series only being released in Japan.

Hmm...I wonder if this game is gonna be like the Pokemon Legends to gen 9 (Scarlet & Violet), only for Dragon Quest 12. Legends tried out open world stuff before gen 9 did it in a mainline game, and we know DQ12 isn't going to use menu & commands style gameplay. This could be their side game attempt at action combat to see if DQ fans like it before doing it in a mainline game. Though I guess the Dragon Quest Heroes games also exist...Though they might see those as targeting different people since those are musou/warriors games. Treasures is probably closer to regular DQ fans.
After finishing Dragon Quest XI I liked it more. During the game play, however, I felt it was waaaaay too long. These games need to dial back their lengths unless they can support the players' interest like Zelda BOTW did.
Have you guys tried Dragon Quest Builders Games? It is an action base type game. It's like Minecraft with questing and a deep story for both games. There's also a lot of nostalgia especially in dragon Quest Builders 2.
I wish every Japanese game didn’t have to have mashy musou monster hunter combat. :( I liked the dqm games. They could have had a fast turn-based system. This is so simplified and just not my thing.

Hearing real game players and Japanese Anime fans is a big plus when talking about Dragon Quest games and even this spin off side quest game because one of the biggest problem with always hearing and reading the so called gamer journalists is that they get into these stupid comparison contests, they rave that the game is fun but then turn around and give a lesser game from another franchise that is not as fun way too much attention but also they tend to come off like they do not appreciate the style of the videogames.... great video.

I wish Blue Dragon had this type of combat. They should remake that game with today's graphics and improve on the story. I think it would be a hit.

Dragon Quest Monsters did this With Terry from DQ VI, you play him as a kids making monster friends.

Im so done with switch games and their peaked out graphics. They need a switch 2 or a switch pro or something to make these games look better.
