Logitech Z606 5.1 Speakers - Sometimes Older Is BETTER

- Logitech's new Z606 5.1 surround sound PC speakers look really good at first glance for gaming and movies. But it turns out this set is far from the best since there are a lot of odd design choices. It could be older sets from Logitech were a lot better...

I'll translate this. Nearly every time Eber says "That's something to keep note of" he means "That's terrible!" 😁 Always the diplomat. Good info as always.

lol
Feels like a very poor effort from Logitech to get a cheaper version of the Z506... this ones a bust, it's not even that much cheaper.
yeah it looks like the shit you get off of ebay.
Atlest it comes with decent wires unlike the 506 but otherwise its rubbish just buy a z906
I don't get it. Why Logitech? The best speaker you made is from 10 years ago. The Z5500 and Z2300 had more build quality than this. I still have the 2.1 z2300. Instead of improving I feel you don't care any more.
@@Joeheadred after the z506 z623 z906 they have gone down hill.
How can you compare it to something that was 3 times the price when it was realeased.. you can’t. Of course it’s better ya clown.
I am still using the Logitech Z5500 since it came out, it's one of the best PC surround speaker system out there, too bad they don't produce them anymore, and I will certainly not give it away for anything else.
mine is starting to die :'( sometimes it starts poping then the audio goes out. gonna try reparing it let's see
@@JocaGod It's definitely worth repairing it, good luck with that!
Literally have my feet on the Z5500 sub as I type this. When I set up a second gaming room a few years ago I got the Z906 hoping that it'd be as good, but it wasn't. These days I'm stuck in a small apartment where even my bookshelf speakers will get me in trouble with the neighbors, no chance to fire up the Logitechs... but still, it's a very comfortable footrest!
Woo, Z5500 crew represent! Me too, had them for years and years, great speakers.
Just checked on amazon. A mint set of Z5500 goes for 1700 USD lmao, it just says how good this speaker system is.
Excellent analysis - thanks for posting
Hey Logitech! Bring back the Z-5500s People will buy them!
Unfortunately, I think it was a loss-leader product. They probably cost more to make than what they sold for. Maybe it could be made less expensively now, but with a risk of being lower quality.
@@zoomzabba452 So you mean the Z906's then?
@@DamienK28 maybe a Z-5300e refresh.
@@zoomzabba452 Got 6x sets of Z-5500, bought them nicely used for about 75 USD each. Best PC stereo. Got the Z-906 in the living room and they are fine, but not equal to Z-5500.
What about the Z906?
Logitech Z906 is my favourite. Had it for years and no issues and amazing quality
Yea they're great speakers.
That's such a cool thumbnail, great job Eber
Personally, I prefer full size PA speakers one foot from my left and right ears.
full size pa so you mean a 3way 15" system with dual 18" subwoofers. or a line array?
@@puresesh7985 ive actually done this with 2 18s inch speakers on a 200 watt receiver from like the 90s it was awesome but it was alot of space and just overkill

@@puresesh7985 well there pa speakers and i didnt have a PA amp but they were insanely loud still they were peavy black widows efficient 18 inch speakers they would rattle my whole house still lol
@@puresesh7985 U know that the bigger the size the easier it is to drive, right?
Im still rocking my logitech Z-5500 since 2007, I love it and I haven't found anything to replace them, actually there's no reason to do that, they sound fantastic and make my room tremble when maxed, I just love the giant sub-woofer
I'm so glad I've bought Z5500 10 years ago. It's the best 5.1 system from Logitech IMO
Stoked for a Canadian tech show that is solid!
Enjoy the balanced presentation.
Yay
I just had the z506 a week ago and sold them for this model Z607 (They are the Z606 but in Ecuador have another number), the connectivity is great, but just what you say about the design of the central speaker is somewhat unacceptable after having done an excellent job with the previous version.
I have the same problem of not knowing how to connect them to the pc, but thanks to you in the 5:28 minute and you explain and samples what is necessary for each speaker to sound with their respective channel, if someone has the problem that connecting them sounds echo, the temporary solution would be to connect them by bluetooth to the pc, only then you hear something better.
But already with the solution of RCA to 3.5 I imagine that everything will go better, thank you very much for your analysis.
I've been super happy with my Logitech Z906 system.
I have a z906, one of the best investments I made to improve overall experience.
Eduardo Yamamoto hows the z906 still holding up? The amazon reviews have kept me from pulling the trigger
I love mine.
@@zergslayer69 Had mine for 2 year and no problems. I've never had problems with Logitech speakers. Ive owned a few 506 models and the 906 I got 2 years ago and no problems. I would wait for Amozon sale and get them for $199 instead of $299. They go on sale 2 or 3 times a year.
ashdoglsu thanks! Good to know it’s holding up, if you’ve looked at the Amazon reviews you’d almost believe every set these days are defective
@@zergslayer69 I've owned maybe 5 Z506 models and never had any trouble. Logitech makes quality speakers and everything else for that matter. Just try to get them on sale for $200 instead of $300 unless money isn't a factor. Even at 300 they're worth every penny.
If you want proper sound for your movies, don't go with Logitech. (their top of the line Z906 doesn't even have dedicated tweeters)
Use your money on a used reciever, floor speakers or bookshelf speakers, a center and some bookshelf rear speakers.
For the subwoofer, you probably don't need it at first with proper floor speakers, but a used Klipsch sub isn't expensive. I seriously got a pristine Klipsch KSW-12 for $22.
People who upgrade their systems sell their older equipment pretty cheap, atleast from my experience. Check your local used items website.
Autunite thank you! Logitech is AWFUL and I don't know why people keep using it!
@@jeffreyepiscopo Agreed, my parents have Z623 by their TV which is okay for them, but I immediately recognize the awful sound when I visit. It's so hollow-sounding in the vocal register with a lack of mid-low bass, dialogue buries anything else going on in the scene like it's gone trough a compressor.
@@jeffreyepiscopo Why? Because for the price, they have some great 5.1 or shit even 2.1 speaker sets, they last a shit ton of time and for a casual user they're perfect.
StatTrak Fedora the absolute opposite actually.
>setup for movies
>you don’t need a sub
Bitch please.
You first with a good set of main LR channels and a good sub, surround is not a priority for a good movie watching experience.
You will never get the same sound with floorstanders.
That GTR in the background looks amazing
I feel like a little bit of a fool here, but I’m slightly confused on the RCA cables to 3.5 jacks on my computer.
Especially without the ques of an actual set of cables.
My computer has the typical pastel color coded 6 ports, but how that translates to the RCA…..?
Does anyone have a recommendation for better understanding the hook up ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Still rocking my Logitech X-530 Speakers from about 11-12 years ago and they are great. Not sure if you can buy them anymore or not but they were a great set of speakers for about $100 when i got them. I have hooked them to my PC, game systems, laptop, and a projector with no problems. It even came with an adapter block that went from the 3.5mm jacks to RCA jacks.
I had those. They were the shit! Wish I still had them. Have the Z-506 now. Comparable to the X-530 set
Yup still rocking the X-530s myself and yes Logitech speakers have gotten worse over the years.
Had a friend/roommate with X530 for a few years. Never impressed me, especially compared with my Z5500. So dumb that they hard wired the cables.
Not sure where you are getting a Z5500 for $100 though thats the point the quality for the price. Z5500 is a $399.99 MSRP set and even used sets are selling for around $250
@@JMan31337 no one mentioned getting the Z5500 for $100 here
I have the same Klipsch 2.1 set. Probably 15 years old now, still rocks out!
It's 2019 and I'm still rocking a Logitech X-540 mated to a Creative X-Fi Titanium, running strong for 9 years now. No issues so far, only a natural wear on the volume knob, a easy repair to do.
I'm still rockin a Logitech G51 5.1 surround set. It still sounds great.
Me too, it's awesome
I very well may be in the minority, but I use a AV Receiver plugged in HDMI for 7.1 surround sound.
There's a bit of a trade-off when going that route: Cost, obviously, cable management as Eber mentioned, you can't use Display Port display on a single monitor setup,
speakers can take up space.
But I will guarantee you, the experience is like nothing else. I've gamed with 1000$+ headphones and it doesn't even scratch the potential and fun of a true 7.1 surround sound system.
Playing Resident Evil 2 or Insurgency Sandstorm with volume cranked up, it's insanely fun !
If you're interested in speakers surround sound, do your research and buy the cheapest receiver you actually need (from recommended brand) and remember that placement is key !
Still using a 2008 model Logitech X 540 5.1 system. The best surround sys. that Logitech ever manufactured.
It's simply bullet-proof & can be highly modified if needed.
The "new" Logitechs are not used to be like the old ones.
(Speakers, Mouse/Keyboard combos etc.)
- Yeah, older Logitechs are BETTER, period !
Yeah same here, only annoyance is the controller cable being undetachable. Making it a pain to work away.
@@sausje You just can't have it all :)
- A detachable controller would be epic for re-positioning on a gaming/work oriented desk.
The best they ever produced were the LEGENDARY Z5500. I personally have a set of X530s myself AKA the predecessor to the X540 and they are decent for being sub $100 5.1 but don't hold a candle to the Z5500
@@Montisaquadeis Can't really compare the both as one was almost 4x the price.
I'm not crazy enough to spend that much money for only a little improvement.

Hahhahaa... that's the whole point !
Well, said :)
My Logitech Z-5500 died last year.. sad panda. Lasted a good 13 years. All of the new Logitech speakers aren't as good unfortunately. Wish they would bring them back with some tweaks.
My condolences to your Z5500, I am lucky enough to still be able to use mine, btw are you sure that it was dead or was it just the fuse in the subwoofer unit?
Forget 5.1. Go get a lsr305 pair and maybe if you really need it a cheap sub.
Your quest for the ultimate desktop sound that costs peanuts just ended.
Mine died last year after 11 years. I replaced them with Z906. They are good enough and with 2 digital inputs.
@@versaleyang Subwoofer was fine, the control pod kicked the bucket. And of course my unit was an early model so it can't be replaced or bypassed easily. I have it bypassed as best as I can, but it's a shell of what it used to be.
Sorry for your loss. I should probably do some preventative maintenance on mine. Bought in Sept 08.
so whats the difference between z506 / z606 / z607
I'm 10+ years into my Logitech Z-2300 200-Watt THX speakers...they're loud as hell, exceptional bass, still super crisp and in my decade plus of ownership, I've never had a single issue with them.
bought the Z906 back in 2015, one of the best peripheral I've bough for my gaming/movie needs.
Recently finished setting up a 5.1 surround sound setup for my living room and its pretty comparable to what you might experience in a theater. I'd put it about 85% the volume in a theater but just as much the dynamic range. At least 2-3x times the quality of my klipsch promedia 2.1 but also 10x the cost all said and done. Having sound coming from every direction is cool but having good sound really amps up the emersion.
I have surround sound for both my computer and my home theater, and for both I've decided to opt out on the center speaker. It seems like when you're playing and surround Sound it puts most of the audio out the center, which actually makes it sound like it's in mono even though there's two separate speakers inside the center channel bar. Whereas if I use the front speakers just to the side of the screen itself, it actually sounds like there's a left and right channel.
also Logitech has some decent sound engineers. I had a fifteen-year-old speaker system I recently had to retire, it had a what looked like an 8 inch speaker on the front, however it was sealed, and it used a 4in driver inside the speaker through a separate chamber, to produce sound from the 8-inch cone. sounded really weird but it sounded really good. And the one I have now is vented but it only has a 4 inch down firing driver, yet it'll make the windows shake. They do some excellent things with acoustics.
Excellent analysis Ebert - thanks for posting
Let me sum up. They cheap out. Every new speakers they launch, quality is going down. I'm still using my old Z2300 after my Corsair SP2500 died. But I also bought new Bose companion series. So I finally learned my lesson. Buy speakers from real speaker makers. No RGB trap for me.
You're better off with any decent model from Edifier, they utterly destroy these overpriced multimedia junk.
except bose is not a real speaker maker... i agree with 4G12 - edifier destroys BOSE for the half price.
@@Kaylas1821
For reference, I use a pair of Edifier R2800 3 way 2.0 speakers which, after equalisation to compensate for room resonances, soundike a 2.2 speaker system. 0.75 inch tweeters, 4 inch mid drivers and 8 inch bass drivers. All for the price of just under 180 USD.
IIRC Edifier has a 5.1 surround sound set in between the price of the z506 and z906 that destroys both in terms of real sound quality since they have actual tweeters and mid range drivers.
@@4G12 logitech z2300's are amazing
My current setup = a 5.1 Audigy FX card, 3 sets of USB stereo speakers (Creative Pebble), a couple of weird cables / adaptors & a decent separate subwoofer that goes down to 35Hz. Cheaper than a proper AVR, decent bass, cost me less than £150. Downside is awkward cabling, but the sound is way better than any PC 5.1 speaker set I've had.
Wish he included a link to the proper cables, I have no idea how to properly set this up to my tv
The problem with the z606 is that it lacks crossover bass, that's why when playing you realize that the bass is missing in 5.1 mode, in 2.1 mode if it has crossover bass, I don't know why they did it like that. I bought one 3 days ago and I'm honestly going to refund it. Great review by the way :)
So, that's why the speaker sounds like tin cans in 5.1 mode. sheesh. i don't use 5.1 at all coz of that trash sound quality.
Your voice is so relaxing
Nothing beats the z-5500's still cranking to this day!
can u talk about the rc cable how to setup, i got one today and i hv no idea how to doit
Still got the X-540 that came out almost 10 years ago. Still no need to upgrade.
Neither do my X-530's :)
Unfortunately my X-540s died couple of weeks ago... After 11 years of service. Went to the store and bought this set of speakers here. They are not bad... But nowhere near as good as the 540 were. Pity.
That center speaker design is so dumb. Logitech 🤦♂️
probably it is made that was to cut costs
Doesn’t that just depend on your display and not the speaker? Can’t you just adjust your display to be higher?
@@indomie5647 its still a dumb design. and the rest of the system is a poor deisgn the volume and controls being on the subwoofer i mean come on its like some shit you get off of ebay complete garbage.
If you study home theater audio - it's actually ideal from the sound reproduction perspective so that as sound pans across FL C FR the drivers are identical. When you use the more common horizontal center speaker (which in a home theater setup is usually much smaller housing and smaller drivers than FL and FR) the color of the sound is changed as it transitions across the front soundstage. While Ebert is correct that this choice is poor for those who keep their monitor adjusted low, technically it's just a different compromise than most of us are accustomed to. In my home theater, I opted to mount the TV 'too high' and have 3 identical front speakers as I found a smooth sound stage to be more immersive than having the display at the ideal height but funny sound transitions from a horizontal (and thus mismatched) center speaker.
@@kalmtraveler mate this is cheap 5.1 system having matching speakers isnt going to make a massive difference. and i know this im building up a hometheatre with 3 lsr803s for the fronts. but for a system like this where its meant to be for people who are not that tech savvy its just dumb you seem to have forgotten thats its a cheap system that probably sounds like ass anyway and if you had any common sense you would know that.
Happy with my Logitech z906 ❤️
I have the logitech Z623 and i love it.
All gaming oriented speakers are kinda meh
I got a pair of edifier s1000db monitors and a cheap DAC and I feel my life changed
I bought the Logitech Z906 surround, but it has two optical inputs, and real surround inputs for up to four different sources. Also, it has a powerful sub, THX certified and Dolby DTS compatible. It is amazing. I would stay away from the cheaper surround sound system options. I absolutely need optical input. I have my computer and TV both hooked up at same time, so now everything plays through the system, no matter what I am watching. Also, the Z906 has powerful speakers and I replaced the cheap wires for 16 gauge pure copper wire. It is amazing, but twice the cost of this system. Worth it.
Still rocking my Logitech Z5500 speakers 🔊 to me it’s still the best speaker system Logitech ever made and it’s over 10 years old, works great and better designed that this new system
It seems the days of decent surround sound for the PC are over. 15 years ago you had much more diversity in the PC speaker market, and could choose between simple surround systems such as this one and advanced high powered systems with multiple inputs, advanced digital processing (far from always a good thing, but you had the choice) and different form factors. To get something equal today you will have to get a fully fledged surround capable receiver and speaker setup. This may well have better sound quality and much better processing options, but is also much more expensive and the speakers tend to be larger and harder to place.
The one thing that we've got today that didn't exist back then is the soundbar. To some this is an acceptable alternative to a surround system, but for the PC gamer that just doesn't work. Or at least I haven't seen one that did.
My personal guess as to why this has happened is that today the customers has an almost pathological fear of cables. For something like a 5+1, 7+1 or 9+1 surround system there will be a lot of cables going (usually) from the subwoofer to the speakers. This used to be considered an annoying but perfectly normal problem. Today a lot of people no longer feel this is acceptable, and will choose a soundbar for the TV and consoles, and a simple two channel setup, possibly with a small sub, for the PC.
Speaking of older being better, I'm still rocking a Logitech Z-5500 system, currently just with two satellites out of five at the PC, but I'm looking at replacements. But replacing this with something better is going to cost money, because the sub is kick-ass (if perhaps a bit less controlled than what would be ideal) and the sound quality on the satellites is really nice - but not outstanding. Logitech used to not suck... :) But sure, the sub gets directional, because the satellites can do no bass at all so the cut off is too high, treble isn't perfect and yada yada, but still, this thing has served me well for years and years now. But maybe I should dig out the other three speakers and do some 5.1 watching while I have it... The 5500 pretty much blows these cheaper sets away though.
I'm just here because I knew there would be Z-5500 comments. 2008 still running strong. Lost a cover or 2.
Really great review. What extra cables do I need to make it true surround sound?
No need.just use the cable provided in the box
Z506 was the best speaker system I've owned so far.
I assumed that the Z606 would be an improvement.
Glad you covered the lack of cables.
That's a deal breaker.
I just want a proper replacement for the excellent Logitech Z-5500. Mine is starting to fail and Logitech no longer makes a modern equivalent that rates as highly. What's my best option?
I have two sets of Z680s.
One for the TV, and one for my PC.
Not made anymore, and they were made to be the best available back then
You can still find them on eBay and other places.
I upgraded the sub and they sound great, I have the rear speaker wires routed through my ceiling. If you want surround sound in the first place you better expect to have some difficulties. The only warning ill give is that the remotes are kinda cheap and I had to replace the led in mine, and you need the remote to change the channel levels.
Good video, one of my best buys are my Logitech Z-5500, that I'm still rocking ...
Keep up the great reviews. Old view... but first time watcher
On my PC - Still rocking my Logitech Z-5500 and probably will until they kick the bucket.
whenever this guy do a review he makes a good thing bad
Thanks for the review, This will definitely help with my decision moving forward.
I just miss the old days of Logitech speakers like Z506, Z906, and Z5500
Still using the Z-608's from 2003. They have yet to be surpassed.
I'm still rocking the Logitech Z5500 and I still love them to this day. I don't have my satellites hooked up at the moment but even without them they produce a great sound. Just gotta figure out how to get them hooked back up in the new room configuration I have.. :(
from an audio perspective - the horizontal 'center' speakers are just that way as a compromise for space. In a "perfect' setup all 3 front speakers should be identical so there's no variance as sounds pan across the front sound stage. Obviously in that case the ideal screen would need to be an acoustically-transparent projector screen to have it not be higher than ideal.
I still use my ancient Logitech Z-680 set from 2004. Sure, lacks some features, but it has already been really excellent.
I have Logitech's z623 2.1 speakers. The bass will rumble the walls if I'm not careful, although the satellites themselves lack a little bit of midrange. Still great though, and for the price, you can't beat it.
So how did they refine the driver’s? With the power output, would it be close to optimal, to be used in a larger than 12 x 12 room? Would it not be too quiet, or distort just to get loud enough.
more of these reviews please
Agreed, I had to put the center down on its side in front of my monitor. Agreed, the LED on the Sub remaining lit is annoying and yes I was very disappointed in the cables and not providing what I needed to set up 5.1 on my PC correctly, had to buy them on amazon.
*i got jebaited by the very very missleading thumbnail*
this seems like a huuuge step back from the 506, crazy. I have a 506 setup myself and they impress me daily with how good the sound is. Just get those if you want an affordable 5.1 setup folks.
For that price range you're better off staying in stereo. You can get very decent bookshelf speakers and a receiver for under that (which I guarantee will have better bass than that god awful sub).
Slippy Sloth Yes
@@ilpatongi Damn never thought I'd see you here
Slippy Sloth thanks, for around $100 I’ll just go for a bookshelf speaker. If I really want to go for 5.1 I’ll just increase my budget to get something like Z906 (now sold as $299 on Amazon)
What the hell happened to Logitech speaker department?
I have the Z906 and I love it! I always wanted the Z5500 because they said it was the best speaker system they made but they don’t make them anymore.
C’mon Logitech?!
I think the Z506 look way more better than that one.
Thanks for the good video, I was going to buy this set for my birthday but now I see how many flaws it actually has! Keep up the good work :)
I miss the days when we had Cambridge Soundworks and Gigaworks speakers, Logitech and Klipsch all competing for the high end speaker option on pc. The Logitech and Klipsch (derived from their quintet home theater speakers) were always epic and the Gigaworks used to be a very good option (heck I had a set of creative/cambridge gigaworks for my old 64 X2 rig)
I have the Logitech Z906s which I got when they were on special. Honestly they are brilliant but obviously higher in price. I was interested to see how these new Z606s stack up - not so good by the look of it.
The THX certification on the Z906s is good reassurance you are hooking up a good set of 5.1 speakers. I did have to adjust the individual speaker output in the windows setting as all are set at 100% but the rears were extremely quiet when all channels are at this level. I reduced down the fronts, centre and sub in the windows settings and now runs a treat.
I held out waiting for a possible upgrade to the Z906 given they are an old product but everything Logitech seems to be putting out now is all a step down or compromise like these Z606s appear to be. No optical input is just crazy?? Why do that, honestly how much would it cost to have at least one optical input? The bluetooth might be useful if u select a 2.1 setting for music from your phone and the cable extension/missing cable is not a deal breaker. For those interested the Z906 has a proper mounting screw on the back for wall mounting with a seperate mount purchase (much cleaner install for the rear speakers) and allowing for direction positioning of the speaker on the mount. These basically have a hole for a screw?? Come on Logitech ffs.
In short, pass on the Z606 but if your wallet can stretch that far get the THX Z906s, they are gold but make sure u get them on sale, RRP is pretty high for such old speakers but u cant argue with the performance of a set of THX speakers. If anything they are overkill for a PC setup.
I have them too, i had a Z5500 long time ago so no idea how they compare as i can't remember how they sounded. I find them good, i changed the placement of the subwoofer and it sounds so much more powerful then before.
I even had the older Z-680's after the Z5500 and i found them even better then the Z5500 even though it has a 8" subwoofer i felt like it had way more power then the Z5500's sub.
Pretty sure you can get the Z-680's for dirt cheap, half the price of a used Z5500. If you don't have the money for the Z5500's i can definitely recommend the Z680.
I bought some Z906s from Amazon for a crazy price of £130 brand new last year... The guy selling them, must have been drunk!!!
In my hunt for a pair of Klipsch Pro Media 5.1 I came up short but got a pair of the Z906 and they do a good job. Decent enough for an office.
Perfect review👍
Just subscribed your channel😊
Sir, please suggest the best 2.1 Sound system ( Active/with tweeters, woofers & subwoofer )
i just got some Klipsch R14pm on sale a couple weeks ago and im super happy especially with how versatile they are. I was able to hook in my dads old JBL Sub 10 for the bass and that things been super reliable. it also still has a phono input so I can have my record player hooked up. honestly between the sound and versatility the only downside to Klipsh is the price but i guess you get what you pay for with audio equipment.
currently using the Klipsch 2.1 as well for my pc, love them.
So, with bluetooth you cant get true surround sound?
Hey thanks for your video, I agree with everything you have said just have 1 question. The back of the speakers doesn’t have an input for the RCA cables, so this might sound stupid but am I just plugging in the cables into the sub ? Or am I supposed to find other things like a receiver ? I didn’t buy it for my computer so where am I supposed to plug these cables they didn’t provide for us except the one... are there a lot more inputs in the back of the tv ?
I do agree that for a PC user who doesn't want to go to the trouble of stringing all five speakers out, there are vastly better options out there than the 605. You may wind up paying a little bit more, but you'll get a lot more. For example, a Tangent Ampster BT II amplifier is tiny and a couple hundred bucks. It drives the speakers of your choice (get some studio monitors) and it has a sub out if you want to increase your bass later on. Or just buy a pair of Vanatoo Transparent Zero for $350, no separate amp required and stellar sound, in a completely different league than these cheap plasticky new Logitech crapboxes with that hideous so-called sub. And the T Zero also have a sub out if you want to boost them later.
"And for 130$, it's really hard to recommend." - BUT you can find the link in the description below. WHY?
What case is that in the background? Looks sleek!
Since there is no good TH-cam review about the Z506 but you mentioned them as good, could you please review them?
Maybe as a desk setup and as a cheap home cinema setup?
I have my BIC h100-ll sub and Yamaha 3-way and Sony bookshelf speakers with an ancient sherwood stereo receiver and people are always complimenting the sound on my PC. It was better than the bose system I tried out years ago and returned and that was before I got a good sub. I snagged the parts except the sub from a radioshack store closing back in '05 or so for next to nothing.
I bought Microlab 5.1 fc730 back in 2010. Still playing hard & clear with no damage in sound. Funny thing is, it's currently selling at 170% mark of what I paid for. So I can sell mine at buying price if I want to haha.
Thanks, even though the price is down to $100, and so is the older 506, but I will end up getting the 506 until I can get a chance to build my own.
Still rocking the X530 since 2007.
It seems than my creative from more than 10 years ago are better for the surround than those...well, to keep looking options for the upgrade. Thanks for the review and specially for the part about the surround that for me it is the most important part about upgrading my setup.
Are your rooms normally lit up that way. Its like... neato...and stuff. particularly the stuff. Also what microphone are you using? You sound fantastic.
So I have these but I can't figure out how to get them to work in surround. The speakers work... In a sound test all the speakers are working. But the rear speakers don't work outside of that test. I really can't figure this one out. How can it be working but then not work for anything else.
I want clear clean sound that fills the room and I increase the volume as high as I need to while watching Netflix!
Is Z333 good?
Logitech will never beat their own z5500 that is legendary IMHO also Eber should be promoted he brings a personal feel to even the most boring products. Not piquing just my thoughts.
I'm old school where my PC has DAC+amplifier+headphones and home theater has A/V receiver with 7.1.2. I tried messing around with surround sound on PC but the opportunity for it are too infrequent to be worth it.
Can please provide the link for buying cable to make it true surround sound
In the video you say that a 3.5 mm output is needed, but you don't give a link as to what to buy. 3.5 mm to RCA adapters seem available in stereo, but not for all 6 plugs in an RCA. Can you be more clear as to what adapter is needed. We got this as a gift, and we can return it, but it would be easier to use an adapter if we could work out which one. Thanks!
Really great review, I like how you started the very optimistic and ended being honest about the product. Your title doesn't really match up though
Great and honest review as usual for hardware canucks! keep up the good work. I have the z607 and all your cons are the same as mine. Just a suggestion to make a follow up for this 5.1 system. Is it possible to improve it by buying a 5.1 amp/dac combo? Would be great help to me coz I've been wondering if its a good idea to do that.
Gross trash speakers. Grab a pair of old towers and amp. Those dinky light weight speakers and housing are garabage.
2 different purposes
Wish you guys would do a review of the z906
I would recommend a good 2.0 system or a 2.1 system over an ultra-budget 5.1 any day. For $100 range and strictly 2.0 I'd get Micca PB42X. For $200 range and strictly 2.0 I'd go for Fluance Ai40. For flexibility of adding a quality sub later on I'd go for a simple DAC/AMP with sub out. Something like the Micca Origain ad250 and Micca MB42X speakers or any other quality entry level set of bookshelf speakers (used market is ur friend here too). That is my current setup, Micca origain AD250 hooked up via USB to PC, Micca MB42X and my old monoprice sub re-purposed after it was replaced in my home theater. The nice thing about the origain DAC/AMP is when i switch it off it tells windows and windows 10 hands off to the next device which is my headphones. I'm glad I switched away from logitech 2.1 3 years ago. Those are now in the basement with a CCA and doing great down there during laundry time :)
for around same price you can get the legendary z623 or new z265 with optical input
