      It is pretty nice, found this trying to upgrade my creative 4.1 speakers to something new and to my surprise the PC surround speakers market is dead, only soundbars and heaphones everywhere; in my country i found the Z906 in one big store, but for $750 US dollars😣

      How can you explain this? On the European version, the consumption on the back panel is 220 volts and 500 milliamps, which is 110 watts. This means that at peak this sound system will consume 110 watts and no more. But at the same time, the specification indicates 500 watts if you count the sound speakers.

  • @mayanksingh12
    @mayanksingh12 5 ปีที่แล้ว +206

    That 1000W which you are searching is commonly known as PMPO(Peak Maximum Power Output) where as 500W is RMS(Root Mean Square). That PMPO is a very vague term for denoting power. RMS is more practical, so this system produces 500W RMS power. I hope that clears your doubt.

      @gidrofines 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      sinusoidal power is listed on LOGITECH's website. This means that the power at which the amplifier or speaker can operate for a long time with a real music signal without physical damage. Usually 2-3 times higher than nominal. And it does not apply to PMPO as Dr Mayank Singh

    • @mayanksingh12
      @mayanksingh12 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@gidrofines Well then go again & check the website of Logitech. It says 1000W peak power / 500W RMS power. I explained to him what he wanted to know in easier terms. Writing things like sinusoidal output etc gets people more confused than they already are.

    I have had this for 10 years now. And i just ordered a new one because its on sale. I have this connected to my TV and use it for movies and music. The sound are crisp and clear with quality bass. If the brand was not Logitech thos speaker setup would cost 2-3x the price. We are now in 2022 and i can recomend this setup. Just to top things of, im a bedroom Dj and have mye Pioneer XDJ X-Z connected to this sound system. I rate this 4 out of 5.

    I have been jamming guitar with Rod since we were in our early teens. And after nearly two decades, in which I've had my own music career and worked with hundreds of other musically minded people, not ONCE have I ever met someone with an ear for audio quality as attentive, uncompromising, and perceptive as Rod's. He's a true audiophile who's opinion and advice on audio equipment I have come to regard as being foremost in importance. His speaker setups have always stood out - the man knows his shit. Haha. I've had these for a year or so and sold them because I got bored.. I thought they were fantastic as well, until I purchased studio monitors (Adam A5X), these each cost more than the z906 set. I also bought a subwoofer from SVS (costs twice as much as the z906 set) and let me tell you, you are missing out on so much with these speakers. You will definitely be hearing sounds you've never heard before 10 times as much compared to the z906. I've spent weeks re-listening to all songs I could think of and I could not believe what sounds were in those songs that I've never heard before.

    I was hoping you will offer a more in-depth tutorial about how to setup this sound system. I bought mine 5 years ago and I am not yet quite satisfied about the 5.1 capability. I am using it mainly for movies and video games but I feel like something is not quite there, something I did wrong. I even went ahead and bought a separate optical cable so I can test it without the classic 3x 3.5mm jack cable. It sounds better through optical....but still not 5.1 like I wish :(

    • @rodrrico
      @rodrrico  4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Have you tried using the Upmix function on the control / volume unit? Also, some films / TV are only mixed in 2.1 which the speakers will notice through optical and therefore only output 2.1 signal, but pushing the sounds evenly throughout the entire 5.1 setup - if that makes sense.
      I would have done a full tutorial setup but the video would be twice as long. Though, that being said,
      if your comment can get 50 likes, then I'll revisit the speaker set and do an in-depth setup and demonstrate how I have setup my unit for optimal performance for each situation (gaming, music, instrument connectivity, TV connectivity, best movie watching settings etc). So get your friends to watch and like your comment!

      @@rodrrico thank you so much for your fast response. Thank you for the offer too ☺
      I got the optical cable just a few days ago and I will try different settings. Also I am thinking about buying a dedicated audio card for my PC so it will probably improve my audio experience and work 5.1 better.
      Because right now, i don't know if it's a speaker problem or a Windows 10 tweak. I only download 5.1 exclusive DTS or THX movies and I tried multiple players auch as BSPlayer, VLC and Splash Pro from Mirillis.
      Also the games I played I checked and the output is set to 5.1 (CS-GO and Battlefield games sure have this option).
      I will see what can I do for now :) Thank you so much for your quick response. I will watch some forums and try different things. Also I want to check all cables and speakers so I make sure everything is good.

    • @rodrrico
      @rodrrico  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@rcsibiu Interesting, I use VLC mostly when using my PC and watching content (that isn't online / streams etc). I don't use the windows inbuilt DTS or Dolby Atmos effects (that can be found in the windows store) that they don't sound very good without a soundcard.
      I recommend looking at ASUS Soundcards as Creative Labs dropped the ball years ago. Their Essence range are top notch - but quite expensive. Though if you're budget conscious, look at their Xoner SE range.
      I hope that helps when you're listening on your computer.
      For the record, I currently only have my speakers connected to the motherboard - Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra which works well with my other audio interfaces - even when connecting instruments.

    • @AbsoluteFidelity
      @AbsoluteFidelity 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If its setup for PC, right in front of you , you wont get the type of 5.1 effect that most people would imagine of. For 5.1 to really work, speakers gotta be further apart, not like 1 - 1.5m apart (no imaging and separation) like how usually PC speakers are placed. Speaker/sub positioning is very important and it will make or break a 5.1 system. Optimal seating position vs speaker/sub distance will improve things a lot. A few tips, if speakers are 3 meters apart, your seating position should be 3 meters from either front speaker too. Bass needs distance to travel, sitting next to a sub, especially a sub like the z906 which has a very high crossover point, will most probably sound like poop. Rear speakers should be just right behind your ears from the sides and should be angled towards your ears with a slightly lower volume compared to the front speakers to make up for the nearer distance to your ears. Rear speakers and center speaker should not be the same height as the front speakers, it should be a little higher or lower (center speaker) and higher (rear speakers) depending on the space you have. Then we come to the room, get rid of as many things as you can between you and the speakers (like coffee table), thicker curtains to absorb sound instead of being reflected by glass windows, carpets to cover the floor as much as possible, etc. Im not goin to go into sound traps and diffusers, but if you follow these very basic steps, you should get a way way way better 5.1 experience. A properly setup up 1000 dollar 5.1 system will sound better than a 2000 dollar wrongly setup system.

    Regarding tweeter, I don't think they need extra tweeter as they have it internally. Boss it's already THX certified. So No need to add or modify any thing. Just plug n play. You love it.
    I'd seen dts n dolby digital movies, listen stereo songs. Songs in 2.1 and 4.1 and also 3D, they are just awesome.
    This devise converts stereo audio into 3D audio. Normal stereo audio based movies/Songs also converts into 3D mode, where you can get more satisfaction than the normal stereo audio.
    I had seen some other devices, on which, it was written as 3D audio but you won't get that real 3D audio effect as you get it in z906.

Real home theatres setups which have separate AVR, speakers, tweeters and woofers have also gotten cheaper. Integrated AVRs with sub-woofers are considered a joke in the audiophile community.

    I own the Z906 for almost 4 years now and can say, it is still as good as on the first day.
    I haven´t had any problems with it so far.
    Would definitely recommend it every time. Great sound. Great durability, great control.
    The remote control is "only" IR, but i´ve never seen such a good IR-Sensor. No matter which direction you are pointing, it will recognize it almost every time. Also, the haptic feedback of the remote control is really nice, even after years of use.
    The System is capable of throwing heavy bass at you, down to around 40 Hz perfectly clean. Trust me. It is enough bass for you, even though the subwoofer is quite small.
    The maximum volume is really high. If i want to listen to music loudly, I set it to around 65% volume.
    For watching movies in 5.1 Surround, the center speaker sounds a little cold, when listening to male voices (compared to big Hi-Fi speakers). But it is still a great experience!
    All in all, I can only recommend this sound system, especially for the price!

You can't buy a replacement since it's been out of production for years, even getting parts to try repair it yourself is near impossible. The Z906 is a great sounding system, but the speakers have no tweeters, so it just doesn't sound quite as good as the ADA995 system. So I bought some female connector solderless adapters and hooked the ADA995 speakers up to the Z906 Sub. It worked, the sound it pretty much exactly the same as it used to be. So overall, very happy with the purchase, plus the Z906 comes with a lot more features when compared to the ADA995 Sub, other than just sounding great of course.

    By 1000 watts, it can be reached by using the system at peak. The 500 watts come from just using the system normally.

    • @plexonet
      @plexonet 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How can you explain this? On the European version, the consumption on the back panel is 220 volts and 500 milliamps, which is 110 watts. This means that at peak this sound system will consume 110 watts and no more. But at the same time, the specification indicates 500 watts if you count the sound speakers.

    Id love someone to some day explain in more Detail what the difference between Speakers really is. In my studies I learned that many subtle differences in tone you cant really hear anymore from a certain age anyway. And then there is the issue of just not liking certain Kinds of Sound signitatures. I bought 80 DOllar Sennheiser Earphones because I was told the brand was specialized in Speakers and made a solid Sound... I hated that undynamic, thin, scattered Sound they made.. and rarely used them. Now I use my 27 Dollar Sony In Ears again, bc I just click with them… In the same way I remember Always loving the Sound from logitech Speakers.. even 12 years ago.. I know Im gonna love These again.. The clarity, the bass, the dynamic, even the classic look. Good Job btw !

      There's a lot to people's enjoyment, a lot of people like increased bass. You even get those where their car rattles to all hell making it sound like shit but they think it sounds great with all the distortion.
      Sennheiser is focused on recreating the sound exactly as it was intended to be. Clear without distortion, and real musical equipment, guitars etc, don't shake the windows in your house. Don't get me wrong, I like dubsteb, fat bass drops and massive base depending on the songs, but in your case closely recreating the audio is not what you're looking for, you just want something with a lot of bass, which the cheap sony ear buds are perfectly fine for.
      It has a lot to do with what kind of music you listen to with as well. Most cheaper headsets (Which I use by the way, I like the bass too, I'm not too into trying to perfect audio recreation) has bass applied to it that is way over what it should be at for the volume you're listening to it at, if that makes sense.
      E.G If you've heard a quality piano played live, right in front of you, do you what your headsets to perfectly recreate that sound? Or do you want it to add some bass to it.
      I realize it's a year old but in the chance you read this I hope it helps from a overall kinda perspective. I can answer more details on a technical level if you respond.

    Thank you for this superior review! However, my trusty Z-5500 still elevates my flight sims, etc: I added a ton of batting to the interior of the sub, and replaced the wimpy satellites with B&W M-1s, which makes the system infinitely more musical. I am wondering if it would be worth it to send the amp plate to someone for an upgrade?🤔 It's good to know this replacement model is available, should my Z-5500 crap out.

      You're most welcome, thank you for the warm feedback. If I were you, I would try and keep the z-5500 alive, as it's amazing - even if nearly 20 years old!
      Of course if you are unsuccessful, the Z906 is a pretty decent alternative (for the money).

    After my s750 Gigaworks gave up, I kept all the seven satellites, but got rid of the rest believing the psu in the woofer housing would never be possible to fix.
    Seeing that you have satellites from both systems, have you tried the Z906 system with the s750 satellites? The tweeters on the s750's really helped in the treble spectrum.

      At this very minute I am using the s750 satellites with the z906 sub / volume unit through my Creative X-Fi Elite Pro. It's not the same as it was, but as close as I will likely ever get. Give it a go if you kep the same speaker cable gauge the s750 used.

    Two questions. One of them regarding the heat inside the subwoofer. It gets very hot in my country these years. There is one report from a user that had his/her subwoofer that caught fire. Is this an issue from the user, perhaps it was a bunch of dust inside it. However, how do you think it will hold up regarding heat?
    The second question, does this "controller-unit" have an option to increase/decrease the bass strenght? I might have missed that one in the video.

    • @rodrrico
      @rodrrico  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      To answer your questions:
      Heat shouldn't be an issue at all if the amp has 'breathing room' either side of the subwoofer. Meaning, don't box the subwoofer into a tight space. Ventilation will prevent even the slightest chance of fire or short circuit. I've never known one of these units to be a fire hazard - almost certainly an isolated case of serious user error.
      Second, yes you can increase or decrease the bass tone. For me I generally have it set around 3-4 (of 11 lights) on the volume dial. Just press the input selector until you see the subwoofer highlighted, then turn the volume up or down.
      Thanks for your questions, and thanks for watching!

    • @rodrrico

      Hi There! I'd say, yes if you have the space for all the long messy cables and the larger sub. I believe the cables might be longer with the z906. If you are after higher gain / overall volume, then that's the main difference between the z506 and the z906. The z506 is basically the little brother of the z906. I hope that helps - thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!

    I purchased this setup to use exclusively with my Mac Pro via optical cable. It worked flawlessly (powered on 24/7, but very low volume when in use) for 4 years, then it died last week - looks like the heat finally cooked it in the subwoofer. I bought a replacement Z906, but I won'y buy a third if it goes out.

      @@georgefilippou6528 I tried all 3 methods (of course I had to...) Optical works fine, but I had conflict issues every now and then thanks to windows updates. Orange, Black Green to motherboard works fine (I do that now) but I did try with an Asus Soundcard and it sounded even better that way. Honestly, for most uses, straight into a motherboard using the 3.5mm O,B,G cables is fine. If you're particularly an audiophile, then you MUST get a soundcard. Asus Essence STX II was what I tested with. Amazing results!

    Im currently on a 2.1 studio setup for gaming, music and movies, is this an upgrade? Or are there better 5.1 speakers for around this price range of the z906? Or is it better to get 5.1 with an av receiver?

      Depending on your budget, I'd say the best option if 5.1 amp + receiver setup, but if just connected to your PC, then the z906 is the best value for money. Either way, any 5.1 would be better for movies and games in particular over any 2.1. Thanks for watching!

    Let me explain what that 1000W means. You see, the entire system is actually puts out 165W continuous with no problem. However, it can handle a 1000W of a bang or sudden sound level but it will not and I repeat, it will not be able to handle 1000W continuously or else you will just end up burning the coil to the speakers since it will overheat. That my friends means that when you purchase a speaker that say 1000W, read the fine line and what you want to purchase is a speaker system that can handle the wattage in continuous. for example. if you are looking for a speaker 1000W, make sure it is the continuous, not the peak. That's why you see in concerts these 1000W speakers, they are actually 800W that can handle a 1000W Bang but not continuously.
