  • Spain, 1812. With the keys of Spain now in Wellington's hand, the French are forced to counter attack and throw the British back into Portugal!
    Join us for a game of Black Powder v2 set in thr Peninsular. Will the Duke of Wellington continue his winning streak, or can the beleaguered French Empire finally strike back?

    Thank you for taking the extra time to film in between play. I have no gaming group so this is always a treat. Also helps me understand the rules better.

      Yes. I quite agree. As a long time gamer with no steady games (presently) I like the actual nuts and bolts parts of the game as well. Thank you for a wonderful channel ! Watching in Massachusetts (or taxachussettes as residents call it😉)

    As a Peninsular British Black Powder player myself, I believe the Ferocious Charge aspect to the Gallop at Everything rule is just wrong and I can find no historical justification for it in any of my readings - and my library is extensive. My mate and I don't play it but there is an advantage to the blood stock used by British light cavalry. I suggest British light cavalry get the Gallop rule but D+1 for their horses and Tough Fighter instead. As it stands, the Black Powder rules gives too consistent and a far too superior result for British cavalry over French. Mind you - I didn't think it possible but you roll dice worse than me and Dan kills you with throwing of the bones. Great report - thanks.

    • @dangregory4217
      @dangregory4217 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does tend to be a bit over the top, for some reason I thought it was just one reroll like tough fighter, which would probably be more balanced. Tim’s dice are notoriously bad, I might get him some new ones but I doubt it would change anything 🤣

    • @garrywillswargamerauthor
      @garrywillswargamerauthor ปีที่แล้ว

      I tend to agree. Ferocious Charge is the equivalent of 2 or 3 additional combat die. This skewed my Venta del Pozo scenarios badly, I prefer to give the British Cavalry an extra combat die or tough fighter as you suggest. My Venta del Pozo videos are here th-cam.com/play/PLuj8XPFZLKIB1k3GBdBl13aoKcnZb2R8A.html

    • @NapoleonicWargaming
      @NapoleonicWargaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that's more than reasonable! The +1 to charge and maybe even 2 extra dice for a medium/large Regiment would be more than enough

    Nice models but difficult to watch for any proud servant of the Emperor. Also, the Légion du Midi was not Portuguese but Piedmontese. There was a Légion Portugaise with very similar uniforms though, this unit fought in Russia but not in the Peninsular.

    Do cavalry still charge on when disordered? I was under impression they didn’t but I may have misinterpreted the rules wrong.

    Wellington...had often quite a few stern words about his cavalry and not in a good way. And it shows once again, rules are made up by people and not by history.

    • @NapoleonicWargaming

      They always fall back in the case of a moral test. I think they stick around, but there absolutely could be rule saying they bounce. We didn't find it in when we looked though!

    • @peterweston189
      @peterweston189 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first rule book definitely stated that cavalry that charge and counter charge, then draw a combat, will both retire one move. Came up recently and looked it up. And was lucky to find it!
