In Postal Redux, you can also play as the Antagonist from Hatred. Press 'T' during gameplay, and type 'mynameisnotimportant'. You can then select him. Also, there is a special filter that you can apply to make it look like Hatred, aptly named 'Like that other game' (or something along those lines). Pretty cool!
Here's the thing, the entire Postal series is supposed to be a parody and satire based on what Lieberman and "conservatives" believed what video games were at the time. So they went al out on the violence. Granted... the original Postal was released about 18 months before Columbine happened :'( But because of the entire attack video games had after that happened is why Postal 2 was created to be a satire on what people believed video games were at the time
Postal 1 also deliberately invokes Quake with its ambient soundtrack and freaky load screens, sooo.... Yeah, it's definitely a parody. A more stealthier one, but still.
the reason why the ending cutscene of the dude shooting up the school was removed in the redux version was because back then RWS thought it was a dark thing that would never happen, but nowadays its a sad, grim reality
Depending on how you play Redux, the ending will slightly vary. If you avoid civilian kills, the graveyard in the epilogue looks decayed, but if you play as a exterminator of all life, the graveyard will be a lot more hellish, whereby the ground will rip open and be engulfed in flames.
I think this game shows what well crafted edge can be. Plus I think there is something intelligent about the war diaries and the dudes ambiguous motivations
Hatred is edgy. Postal is dark and disturbing showing the world through the eyes of a broken man whose fears of the decaying rotting world around have lead him to do the unthinkable. The school shooting represents him coming to his senses unable to bare with the atrociosities he’s committed and the ones he wishes too. There are two sets of voice lines one representing the original person still inside and the other representing the demon whose taken over. The ending dialogue is from the mans other half mocking the doctors and psychiatrists.

The ending above all else, justified the murders committed in the game, because it was opening the player's eyes that there is no justification for murder. It's only a fuel for your hatred. People fail to realize that switch happened a long time ago. - Good game, good gameplay, good moral. We barely see videogames that touch these topics. I played Postal, and then Postal 2 and also Carmageddon like hell. I played them all mostly for the gore and morbidity, actually. And the humor. And that is, of course, why ever since then, every day on my way to work, I love to go running over people and throwing molotovs around.

I played this game with a drawing tablet because I forgot my mouse, and it actually worked so I spent a night finishing the campaign and it's such a good psych-horror game. The atmosphere is just really unnerving and I left the game feeling p bad. Honestly I think having music during the game would've ruined that.
When I was in High School I was dually enrolled in a tech school doing Cisco networking and in the spring we would hold events demonstrating our program to area high school kids interested in enrolling the next year. Being computer networking we decided to hold a LAN party and I reached out to a ton of developers and vendors for sponsorship for decorations, swag, and prizes. A lot never responded, some sent stickers. Running With Scissors...sent I forgot how many copies of Postal II, posters of a chick in a thong standing on a burned up car holding an automatic gun, and all kinds of other goodies. Of course we couldn't give any of that away to the kiddies but we dispersed it amongst each other and all these years later I still love telling that story. Very kind.
Running with Scissors are fucking awesome! I've had the opportunity to talk to them on many occasions and they've always been happy to answer any questions I've had about the development of the games or what they are up to, or even just general chat! They are awesome!
Postal 1 = The only game that shows how creepy a dark psychotic episode can be Postal 2 to 4 = His stressful living situation causing manic psychosis and the paranormal(even that is distorted into being silly).
I remember the controversies this game stirred up as a kid. I miss edgy entertainment like Postal series, especially now with how sanitized and politically correct gaming has become in recent years.
Hatred tried to stir up the same controversy Postal did in its day but the discourse moved on from it after only a month. I don't think it's that everything has gotten PG, I think most people just realized that making a controversy out of something created to stir up controversy is a waste of time and moved on to better things. Video games are also no longer viewed by the general public as toys for children, which is why modern violent games don't gather so much negative attention. Basically the world became a slightly better place since then.
This game is definitely edgy and it's funny that some people try to argue it's "not edgy it's so deep and stuff!!". Rather, it's not really a big deal. Things are allowed to be edgy. Yeah it's blood and gore and skulls and quotes about the ground being thirsty or whatever, maybe some of us like that lol
On one hand its edgy because of the sake of satire and edge, on the other hand its VERY well crafted and has a rather extensive narrative outside of the game (if you read the manual) and it was more of a psychological thriller. The dude was flatout insane and was a paranoid schizophrenic who snapped after seeing some conspiracy theory about the military tampering with the water supply turning people into sleeper cells. So in his mind its "kill or be killed" but what we see is him making edgy quotes as a demon (because thats what RWS intended originally for the media to see as part of the satire of games being demonic and violent). Its like if Dungeons and Dragons made a module in the 80s dedicated to worshiping satan and murdering random people for laughs. It's edgy but it made sense to show how ridiculous someone is by being that ridiculous and making them realize you were quite tame to begin with lol.

to be fair, the music not being there is more of the point than an obstacle. the man you are playing as is not a good man, nor is he doing any good thing in the game. He's not meant to have any cool background music, or badass entrances or anything like that. this is a mentally ill man slaughtering civilians. Hell the only good thing he does is NOT kill children, and that isn't even good, thats expected of a normal human being, you ARE the bad guy

Having the only sounds you hear being gunshots and your victims screaming really forces you to take in the gravity of what you are doing. Also, the character you control may not hurt children, but it isn't even a case of him choosing not crossing the line that every normal person has. He *tries* to hurt them, but is unable. So even that one instance of humanity can't be considered a decent action by him.
