I think mineral glass is fine. It is actually more durable then sapphire just not as scratch resistant. If I'm worried about scratching the mineral glass I just get a gorilla glass screen protector of the exact same size from amazon for 5 bucks.
Great video, the Edifice watch looks nice, and sapphire glass for this price. But remember, there is a difference between sapphire glass and sapphire crystal. On the mudmaster back plate is the sapphire crystal mentioned. The cheaper version is a thin layer of sapphire laminated on the mineral glass. The dome sapphire crystal is more expensive. The thickness is also determined by the water resistance rating of the watch. There are some good videos comparing scratch and impact resistance of different types of crystals.
@@SilencedMi5Unfortunately I couldn't find any documentation from casio, but there are some videodeos on TH-cam testing different types of crystals and they mentioned that sapphire crystal can be deposited on top of mineral glass, and it's more inexpensive but improve the scratch resistance. But the disadvantage is the two components behave differently when the temperature changes, in extreme conditions and fine cracks appears on the crystal. Also on cheaper watches the sapphire is much thinner. The point of my comment is that there is a difference.
If these watches, without sensors, get more people into the Protrek brand I'm all for it. Perhaps then they will start bringing over all the cool jdm only watches out here in north america.
Well it's not my style. However, I'm not gonna knock it. It reminds me of a sporty teen or early 20 something's watch. Ultimately though beauty is in the eye of thee beholder. Spend your money on what you like for yourself and it's all good. 😎👍🇺🇲
I think the Protrek name works. Without creating a brand new line, that's the one that seems to fit the best. And for the price, it's a nice intro watch to the series. I was looking at the Chronograph, but decided to pass on it. Sapphire is nice, but not really into the design.
As far as I'm concerned the only feature a Protrek should never be sold without is solar power. I hate chging batteries on gshocks and protreks. because of the cushioning inside the watches changing the battery is rarely as simple as it should be. My local watch dealer actually charges more to change batteries on gshocks because of it. Also its nice to know you got a watch that should give you 15 plus years of worry free use unless you store it in a place that never sees access to light.
Sapphire (with antireflective coating) cost is about $20 more. No excuses for $300+ watches. Frogman has sapphire Mudmaster has sapphire Mudman should has sapphire
@@JimKinkade I dont have any problem with that Jim. I have an analog Frogman (with sapphire). I just need to complete my collection, a big digital gshock also with sapphire. Give me the option and I will buy it. At this time I have no financial problem

Very interesting to hear such a thing. Any documentation from Casio showing this?

Great info! I’ll have to read up on it.

I agree! I much prefer the tough solar!
Not my taste, but ProTreks are a really good Casio.

Frogman has sapphire
Mudmaster has sapphire
Mudman should has sapphire
That would be great if the Mudman had sapphire but G-Shock will add a lot more than $20 to the price.

Safire adds 100/150$...
Good point!
I'm not a fan of the flat-tipped hands. I had a seiko arnie with similar hands and ended up selling it eventually because of it.
Good observation. The desert colored Arnie had hands like this, right?
This is one for me that just doesn't grab my attention cool concept with the band but the actual watch face is lacking in personality imo
No. This is a sling shot 🗯️
Aw yea! Sling shot test incoming!
No sensors no buy.
Diet Pro Trek
Its ugly but I’m sure it does good for those pro treking ppl
