Doug Bradley will always be iconic as Pinhead, but I'm willing to give the new one a chance. In addition, Clive Barker (the author of the book) is working on the reboot, so this isn't a case of "changing Pinhead just to change Pinhead", but rather a different interpretation from the author himself.

When it comes to history I think liberties are useful to help the story's translation into a platform that isnt a fleshed out 10,000 page book, help the audience digest the themes and lessons. The problems begin when your "liberties" are not really liverties but straight up intended revisionist history.
Ironically in their efforts to be “relatable” they took out aspects, like the cartoon aspect, that made a story about A mermaid, who is practically a sea creature (relatable)

Lots of colour and movement is required to keep their attention, because despite everything, Disney DID used to know what they were doing.

For the most part, there's been positive reception to the Pinhead change. Maybe that could change once the film actually releases, but for now it's looking really good. Doug Bradley will always be MY Pinhead, but so far what I'm seeing is positivity
To be fair, in the original novella "The Hellbound Heart", Pinhead was female. Clive Barker simply changed it to a male for the movie because male villains were in style at the time for slasher movies. That's why I really don't have a problem with the change.

When it comes to history I think liberties are useful to help the story's translation into a platform that isnt a fleshed out 10,000 page book, help the audience digest the themes and lessons. The problems begin when your "liberties" are not really liverties but straight up intended revisionist history.
Ironically in their efforts to be “relatable” they took out aspects, like the cartoon aspect, that made a story about A mermaid, who is practically a sea creature (relatable)

For the most part, there's been positive reception to the Pinhead change. Maybe that could change once the film actually releases, but for now it's looking really good. Doug Bradley will always be MY Pinhead, but so far what I'm seeing is positivity
To be fair, in the original novella "The Hellbound Heart", Pinhead was female. Clive Barker simply changed it to a male for the movie because male villains were in style at the time for slasher movies. That's why I really don't have a problem with the change.
