His touch is great and controlled he can make that cymbal say anything he wants it to. Just a great dynamic drummer utilizing the tools to make great music
Mel Lewis inspired me on the swish cymbal he played on Maynard Ferguson's The Blues Roar album. I love the way Jeff says that the china cymbal creates it's own applause....perfect!
I have a 16” Meinl Extra Dry China, and while it’s still good for rock due to its cutting ability and attack I find it’s best suited for soft, more delicate passages based on the amount of texture and dynamic nature of the cymbal. It has tremendous stick definition that gets lost on harder strokes so jazz is a very suitable environment for a small cymbal like that… of course it lacks the wash a larger china provides but it depends on your style of playing as well
Unmatched, says who? I adore chinas, but I like to go with the dark, turkish sound (Istabul, Bosphorus etc.) over the glossy Sabian sound. Furthermore, I like my cymbals affordable and not ridiculously overpriced. I dont mean to burst your bubble though, feel free to make absolute statements.
I've seen you comment on every single one of these china videos about how good Sabian cymbals are. Are you a rep, or are you trying to get a sponsorship? lmao Frankly, anything instrument related is all about taste and preference. Not one brand is better than another.
Sabian the perfected zildjian family recipe made by the brother who cared about quality over mass production dont get any of those out of tune over tones on my sabian ride just crisp buttery smooth definition
When people say this it just bugs the shit out of me look at the bell some chinas are legit made to play this side up and to be used as a ride with finesse its not a 30 dollar agazarian made for breakdowns
That's a different and absolutely great way to explain how the China is a versatile cymbal for any kind of situation
His touch is great and controlled he can make that cymbal say anything he wants it to. Just a great dynamic drummer utilizing the tools to make great music
this is JUST the video i've been looking for a long time. Thanks for sharing, and please keep posting more Jeff Hamilton stuff!
Class act right here ladies and gentlemen. Jeff is a premier musician and drummer.
Mel Lewis inspired me on the swish cymbal he played on Maynard Ferguson's The Blues Roar album.
I love the way Jeff says that the china cymbal creates it's own applause....perfect!
outstanding. Jeff's absolutely brilliant. I love his referring to the china as instant "crowd noise."
Thank you Jeff Hamilton and the wonderful Memphis Drum Shop....... Great video!
You, literally, can see time when JH is playing. A true maestro, indeed!
Nah this is all wrong. You gotta wail 1/4 notes on it when the breakdown hits.
Gregory Foresi 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Drumstudio 101 He's just making a joke for amusement. No reason to be whiny about it.
so salty..
BLEGH
Djent
Beautiful playing.
Jeff always has the best chinas, great player!
Great lesson from the Master!
Que persona más agradable. Muchas gracias.
Dave Abbruzzese on the pearl jam song immortality is my favourite use of Chinas 😊
Superb player.
Bernard Purdie used one in the same way as well.
Gregg Field used his China during his stint with Count Basie.
14 year old kids: HOLD ON LEMME SHOW YOU HOW IT'S DONE
How big is that RIDE?

@@maturanjohnmartinowenb7998 why are you being so rude
At first I was like that china is upside down but then I saw his technique and OH GOD it totally made sense
Is a 17 inch zildjian K china too small for jazz???
Absolutely not, I have it and it's dark and trashy. It'd be great for jazz.

Tomas Haake: Hmmm, let me try one of those...
what drumset is that? looks like a remo
remo gold crown
Everything I do is because JH said so.
Kept waiting for him to demolish it on quarter notes
Is this a China or a swish China?
Ha, I only use my china for breakdowns. Never thought about playing it like that.
What kind if sticks is he using?
Jeff Hamilton signature model by Regal Tip.
hahaha
What heads are those??????
Seeing as its been 6 months, you probably found out already, but they are remo calftones
@@sid670 fiberskyn. Evans version is calftone
hit the damn things!
When he said use it as a crash I wanted to die
No mention of death core 👎
So your telling me I've had my China cymbal for 10 years😐
Sabian makes the best chinas. If you love to play chinas, just go with Sabian for that reason alone. The diversity and sound quality is unmatched.
FanaticalDrummer The Holy China is a testament to that! Absolutely love mine.
Meinl is also the way to go! Even their classic custom china's (160$ ish) sounds this good. Not to mention their extra dry, Byzance etc etc
i prefer meinl with the expection of the paiste novo's. sabian doesn't do much or anything for me sadly enough
I've seen you comment on every single one of these china videos about how good Sabian cymbals are. Are you a rep, or are you trying to get a sponsorship? lmao

prefiero las chinas en 4 patas
zildjians all the way!! first cymbals made in history!
Luis Chavez, well, no. First cymbal company, not first cymbals
Sabian the perfected zildjian family recipe made by the brother who cared about quality over mass production dont get any of those out of tune over tones on my sabian ride just crisp buttery smooth definition
...........EWWWWWWWWW !!!! WHY ISN'T IT UPSIDE DOWN LIKE ALL MY OLD METALCORE BANDS DO????????
......hello?????....are you there???
his china is upside down.
L Joe no it’s right side up.....
Nah man, for crashing on it for metal it’s wrong way round but he’s a jazz cat that rides on his china. It’s easier to ride on it that way up
No it isn't.
It's the right way up for jazz and swing but the wrong way up for rock, pop and funk.
The thing is your just making sound playing drums doing what YOU want to do weres the rule that says to play it one way or another
Nah. You gotta invert that thing so it doesn't get bent
not when you play it this way
Who cares if it gets bent, its a tool and tools get worn, and you would have to constatly slam it for it to really warp it badly
When people say this it just bugs the shit out of me look at the bell some chinas are legit made to play this side up and to be used as a ride with finesse its not a 30 dollar agazarian made for breakdowns
Why right side up china kinda dumb I guess to ride it works but like why
Chinas were originally mounted bell side up, so you can ride on it and have access to the bell. There is no right way.
why? if only someone made a video explaining it and demonstrating various techniques... oh wait...
The right way, is all based upon on your personal preference of playing.
Too much talker
