I honestly prefer this video on youtube mainly because you actually took the time to tunr a non-LED mirror into one whereas everyone else just bought it for $300-500 and installed it. Thank you so much for that. I'll definitely do the same thing in my house when i renovate my bathroom
When you plug in the lights, and they don't come RIGHT on, I can see your will to live vanish. For half a second...then they come on and all is right in the world! Great project, glad to see it finally!
I loved the little ad break lmao. I find it quite charming how you gesture a lot while talking, but seeing you gesture in the mirror and seeing little hands coming out of the corner of the screen made me giggle the entire time you were talking. It's cool seeing what you make but you're also funny so it makes it interesting. :)
Dude, that's awesome. Normally I might not have watched this video... However after hearing your struggle on the podcast....I just couldn't wait. Very nice 👍🏻
lol I love how you downplayed how many mirrors there were. I am sorry to say that we laughed a lot at all your attempts on the podcast. it looks great in the end!
Hey man, thank you for the inspiratsion! I built a similar one, only smaller, and with waterproof led strip, which I attached on an aluminium profile, in order to cool down the led strip more quickly. I learned that leds could be made waterproof, when you just spray them with lacquer. Also used french cleat to hang it on the wall. Anyway cool stuff!
I really like that concept. I've been looking into ways of getting a lower light source in the bathroom for when my wife is putting on make up and this is something I hadn't considered. Thanks for the inspiration.
I've been looking forward to this one so much Mike!! So happy for you that you were finally able to conquer it!! Thanks for not giving up on it!! I would love to see how much light output it gives of once it's dark out!
That DC795 medium modulus silicone caulking that you used is about as good as you can get as long as you give it enough setup time. Only downside to how you glazed the mirror is that the inside is now sealed off completely which won't let air circulate behind that centre section like it will need in that bathroom environment. That said, I'm still unsure how you'd get around that with this project. I've thought about a project like this before and you may have inspired me to try! Thanks for posting and keep up the good work! Also, as a glazier, thanks for putting in a plug for your local glass shop ;). We are some really cool people with awesome ideas for your home!
Thanks Josh, that's good to know! I thought the same thing, but If I ever do have to get to components I can unscrew the back panel... doesn't really help with air circulation though. I you do make make one , I'd love to see what you come up with!
Pro-tip, when spraying the mirror, spray while blasting the spray pattern (even pre-heat) with a hair dryer simultaneously. The lighter/finer the coat, and the more immediate the dry time, the better results. You still won't get a perfect result. But, once you see a coat take more than 1 to 2 seconds to complete dry (which you can see as the surface changes), the highest level of reflection can never be achieved regardless of the number of coats.
thats really cool. I think this is a great project. I love the spray can mirror. I know it didn't work that well on the full mirror but on something smaller it might work great.
This is awesome! Have you ever considered going back and making the mirror heated, so it never fogs up? You've already got some electrical back there, so it probably wouldn't take much.
Looks nice man, im glad you say in your vids what went wrong with your projects, I often mess up right in the middle of some of my builds and feel like im the only one that it happens too. But on the bright side you certainly learn a ton from that!
“wow that’s really bright” me when i start watching youtube videos at 1am and suddenly it’s 6am and the sun is rising and the birds are chirping and my light turns on at the brightest setting
I had the same issue with the rattle can paint. Very frustrating I tried 4 or 5 different ways to make it work the best. In reality neither way was better than the other. To be honest if you folks really want to make a mirror just buy I mirror from a glass place. The project looks amazing though! Can't wait to try my own version of the bathroom mirror!
Mike, I just had two of these mirrors cut and etched for 2 projects I'm doing. I wanted to tell you that both glass guys informed me that the adhesive you used (and I purchased) is silicone based and will eat at the back of the mirror. They both also informed me that the mirror should have at least a 1/4" "ledge" to rest on because if it doesnt, over time it will slide right down and fail. I am redesigning my light box prior to installation due to these facts. Neither of the glass guys knew each other nor did I tell them what the other said. I was asking them for pointers in the project when they volunteered the info. I hope yours stays in place over time.
Did you ever consider using a French cleat to hang the mirro and attach L brackets on the bottom to hide the brackets? I think it would clean up the edges. Love this build...I'm going to attempt this build soon!
Try on a small mirror, tapping off like you did on your first attempt. Then where you want the light to shine through take sand paper and sand the back of the mirror. The sand paper will remove the reflecting part of the mirror so light will shine through.
I did something like this 20 years ago in order to get an LED display shining through the mirror. What I found was to use a razor blade glass scraper to simply scrape the paint off on the backside of a already existing mirror
Looks great, so glad to finally see it done and I bet you are too. But...did you lose a pair of pliers to the inside of the mirror at about 4:55 ? Right as you guys set the mirror down I swear I saw some inside the center section.
Just in case you didn't know, removing flicker from any light is as easy as just changing the shutter speed of the camera, roll it up or down a few steps and it will stop.
Looks awesome. How cool would it be if this were a 'smart' mirror with a tablet behind it that would show through. I'm not a big fan of selfies but with that lighting it would take awesome pictures :)
I honestly prefer this video on youtube mainly because you actually took the time to tunr a non-LED mirror into one whereas everyone else just bought it for $300-500 and installed it. Thank you so much for that. I'll definitely do the same thing in my house when i renovate my bathroom
Very nice! I loved that you shared your failures and not just the finished product.
Would have been nice to see the light on at night time/in the dark to see how much it actually lights up the room
Really respect the way you aren't afraid to admit that you made mistakes and that it took you 5 times to do it.
Finishing project that failed so much times deserve huge respect. And like. And comment. Great job!
When you plug in the lights, and they don't come RIGHT on, I can see your will to live vanish. For half a second...then they come on and all is right in the world! Great project, glad to see it finally!
The internet is a awesome tool when you use for good stuff like this video. Thank you
Thank you for the honesty on how many attempts needed to make it to the final build. Appreciate the realism in the world of DIY. Kudos.
I appreciate your transparency and solid recommendation to let the professionals handle certain jobs.
Kinda ruins the point of a diy video tho don’t you think. People that diy find solutions for themselves and teach self sufficiency not dependency.
Diy lesson of the year. "Let the professionals do their work".
Why is this more or actually satisfying than those satisfying compilations.
Explained everything very well. I was able to follow step by step easily. There were no “wait, what hold on” moments.... thumbs up!!
Is it may imagination or u left your plyers inside the frame of the mirror (4 minutes and 45 seconds) into the video
Daniel Martinez that was awesome! Thanks for catching that. Lmfao
hahaha he probably heard it
Daniel Martinez Es verdad, dejó las pinzas en el interior del marco
Lol yes he did
He did 😂😂😂
Thumbs up just for the amount of effort you put in to this. Glad you got it done.
Thanks a lot Dan!
10% inspiration, 90% perspiration. Great film! : )
I love the honesty of when DIY is more expensive then just paying a professional.
Haha, sometimes it doesn't work out the way you want it to
you're not only talented, you're a smart boy!
Great project, man! Thanks for sticking it out and not scrapping it when the road was more cluttered than you thought it would be 😎
Can’t wait for you to hit 1,000,000 subs!! Your videos are the best.
Dude, that's awesome. Normally I might not have watched this video... However after hearing your struggle on the podcast....I just couldn't wait. Very nice 👍🏻

Awww shiii it's finally here. What a mission it was, but all worth it. Those 5000k LEDs are wicked
Hey everyone!! Make sure to share this vid as much as possible!!! We need 2 million views so Mike can recoup his losses!! 😉
Nathan Hamler lmfaooooo
I really like that concept. I've been looking into ways of getting a lower light source in the bathroom for when my wife is putting on make up and this is something I hadn't considered. Thanks for the inspiration.
We appreciate this post. My sis and I are inspired. You rock 👊
After heating about this on the Modern Maker Podcast I am stoked to finally see the finished mirror. Thank you for sharing.
I've been looking forward to this one so much Mike!! So happy for you that you were finally able to conquer it!! Thanks for not giving up on it!! I would love to see how much light output it gives of once it's dark out!
Glad to see it finally done.
Glad to finally see it on the wall. I hate that this one gave you so much trouble!
You rock man! Way to not give up and SHOW THAT MIRROR WHOS BOSS! It came out B-E-A-UTIFUL! ;0)

I kept hearing about it in the podcast, now we finally get to see it!!!
Absolutely love it! Now there's only one thing to do. REPLACE THE DOORKNOB!
Yes once again you knocked it out the park...keep them coming I love it ☺

I've been listening to your updates on the podcast, glad to finally see the finished product!
The most bomb diy mirror ever! Thanks for the tips! 😁
Thanks for being honest about the cost. I am going to try this but add my own design for the background.
The honesty and you!!! Keep doing it!!
Haha! Will do
Turned out really great! Nice job.
Love this & I love Ryobi. It's all I own.
I’m glad this worked out in the end, you looked so sad when the first attempt turned out hazy after all your hard work! Looks great
Great build! Glad you didn't give up it looks awesome in there.
Mike, thanks for the video. This is exactly what I am looking for a new powder room remodel.
Looks awesome Mike! It was well worth the wait
So happy to see the mirror finally work out. I've been following your story about this project for a while on the podcast and Instagram. Awesome job.
This is great. Thanks for working through the hard parts.
Mike, your channel is blowing up! I remember watching your vids back at 50k subs
Glad to see if finally came together 👍
Come through with the background jazz tho 🙌🏾 Lolol great videos!
Omg, i want to make 2 of these! One for my vanity and one for the bathroom. Awesome job man! Can't wait to follow your directions!
Nice! Being organized is key to success.
My lovely husband can make things, but he isn't gifted with this skill.
thats really cool. I think this is a great project. I love the spray can mirror. I know it didn't work that well on the full mirror but on something smaller it might work great.
Finally. And it looks awesome. Well worth

About time!! LMAO. So glad to see the finished product! Came out fantastic!
Great video man! So proud you still kept going even after all the disappointments. It looks amazing
“wow that’s really bright”

Looks great, i!ve followed your strife in producing this and it was well worth the wait.
You forget to add the demister pad for the anti fog :P - Nice Job man
Looks nice, man
Did you ever consider using a French cleat to hang the mirro and attach L brackets on the bottom to hide the brackets? I think it would clean up the edges. Love this build...I'm going to attempt this build soon!
Very nice , nice design
Awesome project!! I will think about building one myself. Love the wood.
Psyched that you finally got it worked out and uploaded! I've been listening to the podcasts and keeping up on the gram and I feel for you haha
Thanks dude!! It feels good to finally have it finished!
Maybe you can make the next one with a car mirror tint. You can always use the old one for a lighted coffee table.
5000k is a really good metric for color temperature. That's what most major surgical lights rate up to.
Yeah, great vid, Liked & Subbed because of the quality of it
Awesome!! Thanks

Beautiful!!! What a good job, you are so talented. You impress me more in every video!
This was super cool cant wait to do one of these! Great job bro 👍
Looks great, so glad to finally see it done and I bet you are too. But...did you lose a pair of pliers to the inside of the mirror at about 4:55 ? Right as you guys set the mirror down I swear I saw some inside the center section.
I thought the same. But he used screws on the back right? hahah he probably managed to get them back
yup, he left a plier inside..RIP plier
LOL he totally left those inside the mirror hahaha
RIP Pliers :)
Ha!
Just in case you didn't know, removing flicker from any light is as easy as just changing the shutter speed of the camera, roll it up or down a few steps and it will stop.
Design tip from an architect: size and install the mirror so that you do not see reflections of the faucets in the mirror.
ANOTHER ONE great job mike
This mirror is so nice 😍 great job!!
It was worth the wait as it looks amazing. It has inspired me to do our bathroom. Great video
Pretty good, great job love the way it came out 🤩
Smart mirror process
Looks awesome. How cool would it be if this were a 'smart' mirror with a tablet behind it that would show through. I'm not a big fan of selfies but with that lighting it would take awesome pictures :)
Great informative video with humor....Yay!!!!
To be honest, I thought we would never see this project finished the way you talked about it on the modern maker podcast !
Haha! Same here
3 PIECE DRAGON SWORD SET!great vid haa
That looks great! Might have to attempt a similar project soon. Happy to see it's safe and in one piece this time!
