The entire frame is about a half inch off the wall all the way around that vents the Tv well. What I worry about is the glass on the screen holding in heat directly. We shall see how it fares

Why not use an Android Smart box plug it into the LED screen through the HDMI and for which several apps are readily available instead of dealing with Raspberry pi??

  • @kjemradio
    @kjemradio 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I would just buy the Canakit Raspberry Pi package instead of the individual parts. They are over all cheaper, and you get all the necessary cables and even the RPi cases (some of which include a fan because the RPi does get hot with prolonged use.) They do include some other goodies for future projects. Just my opinion.

what would be amazing is if they had a two way mirror that worked like those smart glass LED windows , the ones where you can switch from transparent to opaque ,
so you could switch the glass from a 2 way mirror to a clear piece of glass if you just want to use the TV as normal TV
i see you put a 4k chromecast in there, seems like kind of a waste otherwise
i mean what could you possible use it for with the 2 way mirror besides music?

Nice set of skills. Isn’t the ‘Magic Mirror’ in a kitchen exposing it to potential humidity from the rising heat from an oven/stove it gets trapped in full top third of a kitchen ceiling. A gas oven releases a lot of humidity which contain particulates less than 2.5 microns, any foodstuffs cooking on a stovetop does the same, even with an electric stove in a pot of water cooking soups etc. Over time kitchen materials will warp and absorb the food oils, layers will trap any old scent of cooked and particularly an accidentally burnt food. The old saying “ If you you cannot stand the heat get out of the kitchen” is the effect of the properties of all kitchens. As they’re notorious for splashes, spills that vaporize and rise to the ceiling. When opening a cold refrigerator/freezer in a hot kitchen creates a fluid dynamical air flow. And turbulence within the top third space, near the ceiling releases droplets of gas molecules infused with the food oils onto random areas overtime. Particularly if your stovetop is used daily for meals. A Coffee maker used daily will release a lot of moisture that has coffee bean oil molecules trapped in the steam vapor as well. Moving it to a different spot periodically will minimize the effects across the surface areas of the kitchen. The use of a maximum 12-15” TV screen within an average kitchen is recommended as it also can be relocated quickly to accommodate such routines a Thanksgiving dinner or family food gathering. The Hot-Cold,Hot-Cold cycling of temp is the elephant in the room. Also the primary cause for the installation a commercial grade ventilation system. The screen area for a magic mirror strategically placed is the paramount factor in creating sustainability of any semi delicate electronic device in a uncontrolled environment. . A 3’x5’ mirror screening will attract the worst of these contaminates very quickly overtime. A carefully daily use of a H2O based cleaner will be necessary to reduce
any risk damage to the softer pine wood construction as well as the condensation buildup up within the mainframe caused by local temperature changes within the mainframe as well as room itself. Water droplets on a video screen will trap any electromagnetic cyclic wavelengths as well releasing small amounts focused radiating heat on its surface due to the refractive properties of a water droplet. As in the focii points within a lens.

Why shouldnt a Raspberry Pi have an GUI? It depends on the OS that you are installing(and or then the programm that you are running, but there are ready to use solutions and to customize. That in combination with the autostart function of the chosen OS) and then just hooking up the HDMI to your monitor.
For controlling the OS just go for a wireless keyboard/mouse combi with the USB ports of the Raspberry Pi. Really dont get that point of yours.

    No ventilation for the TV?
BTW... nice long term goals... especially more time in intentional prayer. Especially true these days... so easy to get all distracted by things that want to cause us to worry, but what can worrying do?... nothing but distract us from time with the one who can do all things.

I figured i'd have to add ventilation but haven't yet. I think i'll just cut slits in the top and bottom of the frame. The glass does feel warm but so far everything is running smoothly. I guess being hotter long term will just diminish the life of the TV? idk if i'm doing harm or not. nothing's shut off yet haha and good eye! You're very right.

@@BreakItYourself Modern TV's that size only consume about 80 Watts due to using LED backlights... whereas older CCFL backlit TV's were more like 200 Watts or more. A few slots top & bottom is indeed all it would take... maybe three 4" x 1/2" bottom slots (6 sq. in.) with maybe 20% more vent area on top than bottom. In a properly designed TV, electrolytic capacitors are always the first things to go, since they have a liquid electrolyte. Beyond that it's a matter of how much headroom they designed into their main processing chips thermal management... maybe tied with the mains power supply thermal design. But be assured it will definitely decrease the life of the TV... and possibly the RaspPi.
This video inspired me to attempt a rebuild of my old DakBoard systems... of which I have 2 or 3 laying around - made from thrift store computer LCD monitors, integrated the Pi zero inside the monitor. :)

    Couple things:
1.) If you are also looking to waterproof it (for a bathroom mirror) I would recommend the similar video on DIY Perks, and using a combination of the techniques used there and here.
2.) Love the baby, followed directly by the dog, cameos! Great vid! ^_^

Project came out great. Love that its a family project! The only issue I have is the location. You can no longer fully open that cabinet without hitting the mirror. I guess just don't keep anything used often in there. My kids would nail that in a week. Yours is still tiny so nothing to worry about for a few years. Once they hit 3 all bets are off ;)
