You say immigration was backed up. I've been through this Sydney Cruise Terminal many times and immigration is never the problem. You see for yourself you just hand over a card. More likely it was a delay in getting all the luggage off the ship and sorted.
Unfortunately we were told by the officials during embarkation & disembarkation it was the immigration backing up the process. We actually saw it with our own four eyes :) However, we must say we went out of Sydney 3-4 weeks prior with no issues, nice and smooth easy peasy. We had more experiences that were backed up than it was easy. Thank you for your comments and coming along on our journey around the world.
Immigration in Australia is always like this - airport, seaport doesn't matter! Very annoying as a resident, I imagine extremely annoying as a tourist!
