Nice!!! Great question!! Carnival has it on everyone of their sailings. It's a really amazing event regardless if you served in the military. It's a great event to attend to support the men and women that have served. Ideally it should be done early in the sailing so you can meet some great people and become friendly for the entire cruise however, sometimes they do it at the end of the cruise. We agree the upgrade to the extended room is the way to go? I’m thinking you possibly got lucky with your neighbors 🤷 in regard to the mattress crease opening its’s fixable we should have asked to have it fixed. But it started halfway through our sailing and we sucked it up. It doesn’t matter what cruise line almost all of the cruise lines bring two beds together to make a queen or king some do it better than others. In all your cruising have you ever experienced the center crease of the two beds ever opening ?

Thank you for the question. The map and train/trolley tickets can be picked up right at the visitor center as you get off the ship. From what I remember the blue Trail map says it takes about 1.5 hours walking. But that is from the town center. Walking into the town center isn’t far but that would add to your time. Roughly about an additional 15min each way. We happened to be there on a Sunday so most of the shops in the center were closed but some opened up around noon time. We had a great time exploring on foot but you could easily get around on the train or hop on-off bus. Both should be available for purchase at the port. As for the accent, we both grew up in a small town north of Boston, Massachusetts. Most people think Michael’s accent is in New York, Italian accent, but he’s neither. 😄

Texas Boy, Thank you for sharing your experience and journey. We crossed Drakes Passage twice in December 2024 going to and coming back from Antartica and it was like a lake both times. Hi Tom, That's funny!! No skiing for us. We used the QM2 to get us from New York to Australia without flying. We had a blast and created some long lasting friendships from that journey. Do you like to cruise or fly when traveling?

@HubbardsJourney never been on a cruise ship. Only sailboats from when I was about 7 and still long for the sea having sold my last boat years ago. Double watched each issue of the vendeeglobe and those guys are surreal!

Hi Tom, I couldn't imagine being on a racing sailboat holy crap! Those guys are always shaking, grooving and moving! I will stick with the luxuries of a cruise ship. If you have the time and means I would definitely recommend you try sailing. If you shop around you can really find some good deals. Cruising for us works well. We love the ocean, meeting new people, the shows, the food and the ports of call. If you do decide to try a cruise let us know we might be on that ship you never know. Are you a subscriber? That’s a great question. Not sure if they are or not. We thought the cost of this sailing was very reasonable for the journey. We sailed New York to Australia. It was a 45 day segment of the QM2 World Cruise. We were trying to avoid flying if we could. Have you traveled to any unique places and did you fly, cruise or drive? We would love to hear about it! Hi Rich, That's awesome! I'm wondering if Cunard changed something with their service? We have had such different experiences with the internet regardless of the cruise line. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it’s bad and most of the time it's ok. We have been told uploading is usually much slower than downloading. We would love to hear about your QM2 journey. Where did you sail out of and what were the destinations?

@@HubbardsJourneyWe sailed on the World Voyage segment from Singapore to Southampton (5 weeks) in March/April 2024. There was a retrofit of the ship very recently (perhaps after your Jan crossing; but I thought it was Nov 2023) where they installed Starlink satellite service, which all cruise lines are doing very quickly. The service is far better and cheaper than standard shipboard satellite. It was $18/day for std service and $24/day for premium (which I had). I will say our friends with the std service level said it wasn’t great (I’d guess over-subscribed), but better than previous ships they’d traveled on. Uploading is definitely slower, but for texts and email it is fine. Starlink is also going onto airplanes everywhere and is also much cheaper and faster than what they have been using (some airlines are offering free WiFi), and it works anywhere in the world (including over the middle of the ocean).

Thank you for your question. We’re working on these videos right now, but there’s just so much amazing content It’s taking us a bit to put them together. Our biggest piece of advice is be ready for anything! That means bring lots of layers for weather changes, if you don’t have a balcony, being outside on deck is the best viewpoint so you definitely want hats and gloves because it’s very cold and windy being on deck for long periods of time. Even the buffet/lido dining areas are cold so a jacket inside is needed as well. Most days in Antarctica start early in the morning so be prepared for that. Be sure all your devices are charged with plenty of disk space if you want to capture the sights. We got lucky with calm waters crossing the Drake’s Passage but our preferred seasick med is Bonine, it’s non-drowsy and takes the edge off when Andrea’s not feeling well. One additional trick is eat small meals/snacks often. An empty stomach gets queasy quickly during rough seas. And finally, keep an open mind and expect nothing and everything will be amazing! Each cruise can be vastly different from another but each will be a story to tell regardless. Remember less than 1% of the population get to see this part of the world in person so we are extremely lucky and blessed… so enjoy all the moments! When is your trip? When you’re done we would love to know what was your favorite day, sight, or experience.

We were there the end of May and early June so I anticipate that July might be a bit warmer as it is part of their summer months, but it still has the potential of being cold. So dress in layers. Maybe a light jacket or waterproof windbreaker would be good to pack. Google says temperatures in July are an average of 55F (13C).
