Maybe my favorite year in the NFL. Maybe cause I was 8. Maybe cause I loved the Cowboys. But I can watch Cowboy footage from from the early 80's all day. Even though they fell short each year I just love the Danny White years believe it or not :)

From 1966 to 1985, the Cowboys were 208-79-2. They missed the playoffs twice in 20 years, but were 8-6 and 9-7 those two years. 20 straight winning seasons, 5 SBs, 12 NFC Championship games, and 2 SB wins.
This was long before free agency, and the flag football rules. They had to play against the great Packers teams, the awesome Steelers teams, then the super 49ers teams.
In title games Tom Landry lost:
To the Packers twice by 4 points
    To Unitas' Colts by 3
To Chuck Knoll's Steelers twice by 4 points
    To Montana's 49ers by 1
Had he won even one of those games, there would be NO question that Tom Landry is the greatest coach of all time. He's still in the top 5 of anyone who knows football. Personally, I believe he is THE GOAT of coaches.
He built his team from scratch, starting in 1960, then in 1975 they were old, and he rebuilt them again. Then, when Staubach retired, he retooled them and went to 3 straight NFC title games with Danny White. I have no doubt that he would have rebuilt them again when they hit rock bottom in 1988. It's a shame that Jerry didn't keep him around in some capacity to be the public face of the dynasty he managed for 29 years.
Jones will NEVER be loved because of the arrogant and clownish way he canned this great gentleman. It was shameful. He unceremoniously fired a LEGEND. Landry did not respond with any snide comments, but when Jones tried, years later, to mend the fence, Tom said, "no thanks." Landry knew a man of low character when he met one.
I cannot wait to meet Mr Landry when the Lord Jesus returns to gather us home. He was a great coach, and a great human being.

It was more the horse collar tackle on Drew Pearson after that play that ended the game, had that not happened, the "catch" would've been an after thought in a great comeback by the Cowboys.

A sad prenote to Black Monday for fellow Expos fans. Bringing in Steve Rogers was still the right call. Would have won it all in ‘94. But, ….back to the football game.
