i remember watching this game, and the only reason i remember is my mother and i were poor af back when i was 11, but she went to Vegas a won 1200 bucks, so she bought me my own lil 13" black & white Tv. this was my first Cowboy game on my new lil Tv.

I remember this game very well. Thanks for posting it in it's entirety... ! I don't know if Texas Stadium was ever louder than it was for this game, especially when the Cowboys met the 25-point gap. But notably, if they had held to that lead, and taken the top seed in the NFC, there's no telling what would have become of the old blue jersey, which was infamously abandoned by Dallas after they were forced to wear it at the Vet for the NFC Championship. The Eagles wore white at home, looking to gain a psychological edge with the superstition that shrouded the Cowboys in that jersey. So Cowboys fans can look to these 2 games for the history of the navy blue and silver uniforms we know today.

Amen to that! In fact, as a 9--year old child at the time who had little to no interest in NFL Football until about the 1981 season, strangely enough, perhaps the biggest factor that initially drew me into being a fan were the Philadelphia Eagles' uniforms at that time!

Me too. I sold satellite systems in the 1980’s, and that was one of the biggest selling points. People loved being able to hear the announcers bs during the commercial breaks. I always said that was the first reality TV.

Eagles receiver Charlie Smith suffered a broken jaw in the first quarter and missed both playoff games. He returned in the Super Bowl, wearing a special cage-like mask with a multitude of bars, including some that extended almost to the back of the helmet. He wound up catching two passes for 59 yards in the game as the Eagles lost to the Raiders, 27-10.

This was one of those weird the Eagles had to not lose by 25 points or more to lose out on the division title. The Eagles almost lost the division going into the 4th quarter they were down 25 points. Luckily enough for the Eagles, they scored enough points to win the division even though they lost the game.

Thurman was one of those Cowboys who had heart, always playing beyond his ability...no way he could've pulled up when he was 2 feet from Carmichael when Wilson tipped the ball. Brookshire and Sumerall were some of the best play by play and color men on TV... they harped too long on Thurman's play.

By today’s playoff rules the Cowboys would have won the division with a split with the Eagles and a 7-1 record in the NFC East and Philly with a 6-2 record in the division. Of course the Eagles probably would have shown up a different team in this game knowing they had to win.

I've never been a big fan of White, both as a quarterback and person. However, I blamed Landry more than White for much of Dallas' playoff misfortunes in the early 1980s. He never seemed to adjust the Cowboy offense to White's strengths. He just plugged him in there and expected him to be Staubach.

I often find that White often acted as though he was better than other people, a trait shared by other Cowboy players during the Landry era. It was something that did not endear them to other teams, particularly the Steelers. I also didn't care for the fact that White was one of the players who crossed the line and played in the 1987 "scab games," and helped created division and dissension on the team.

In fairness Philadelphia and Dallas had the same overall record, same conference record, same division record and ended up 1-1 head-to-head in the regular season.
