I happened to stumble upon this video trying to find out how hard it is to grind don one of these pads. I don't usually leave comments, but the installer in this video did an excellent job. Great work.
Thanks for the great video. Followed your steps to fit my Pachmayr Decelerator to a Bansner Hitech Specalties stock for a custom 6.5mm SAUM I am currently building. Went perfectly :-)
Excellent video. I'm looking to refinish a cheap shotgun and was trying to figure out how to cut the toe angle without buying an expensive recoil pad installation fixture. Just masking off the stock seems so obvious, but brilliant at the same time.
I used this method to install a hard buttplate on my shotgun. I was very hesitant (SCARED) to begin the project. As it worked out I should not have worried at all. I didn't think that I could make a smooth transition between stock and buttplate but it worked out fantastic, I surprised myself. Excellent video!!
Wow! Great instructional video. I have to change the pad on my Remington 700, because the original for some odd reason, started acting like a magnet, picking up lint and all kinds of things. Bottom line, the pad was destroyed. Initially, I was ticked at Remington. I paid good money for this .270, and it is a beautiful hunting rifle. I have found a Remington Supercell Recoil Pad at Midway USA. It is advertised to fit my rifle. My question, should I attempt to do this on my own, or will I have to take this to my gunsmith, and have him go through the steps that you took us through? You Sir, truly are an artist!
Excellent Job! What polishing compound are you using? I have never polished pads after grinding I usually just go to very fine grits (400-500) and then call it good. Polishing really adds a nice touch.
Great instructional video! More Importantly, to echo sentiments of other viewers, great to see a solid young man embrace and perfect a trade. American craftsmanship.
I need to fit one on my dad's old rifle (old butt disintegrated after 40 years of hard use) but only have access to a hand-held belt sander. Is this achievable?
Pachmyar states in their literature to not use the original screws or screw holes as they will work loose. Has the author found this to be a problem ? - thanks
I love the time and the pride you take in your work, even in something as seemingly "trivial" as fitting a pad.
Wow! Thats what I call first-class workmanship!!!
nice to see a younger fellow that knows his stuff and takes pride in his work.

Very nice. You have inspired me to take out that red pad that has been sitting in the box and finally install it on my 416 Rigby DGR rifle. Thumbs up!
Very nice! I love watching someone who knows what they're doing!
Really nice work brother. I'm thoroughly impressed.
Using a round shaft on that phillips bit will help you. If you can find one, tool down those raised areas on the tool bit you are using.
First timer, restoring an old Marlin 30-30. Thanks for the video, this approach worked beautifully!
Great job. He made it look easy- the sign of a professional.
I was on the fence considering whether to do this myself or not. I will do it now without hesitation. Very well done and thank you!
Nice job! I have seen people butcher recoil pads before. This young man did an awesome job.
Lovely job and great explanation. Thank you.
This gentleman is a true professional while being incredibly articulate in explaining the process.
He appears to be a great gunsmith already!

That is impressive! Professional end result. I will look your shop up and have you install my next shotgun recoil pad. Thanks for posting this video.
Super clean work. Well done.
Fantastic job mate! Very well presented.
Really nice. I do mine completely without the nice tools you have. What a great job!

This vid is good way to get business! :)

Bada bing, bada boom! This guy is going to develop into one of the better gunsmiths in the world, IMHO.
snappydoodad Yes. I was thinking the same thing. This guy is amazing. Makes a famous gunsmith who started major gun website look like an amateur.
Excellent video Brother

Nice work, thanks for sharing.
Very nice work
good job mate
Nice job.

I think some stock recoil pads are part of a tire recycling program.
G96.....that a boy. The best stuff out there
That has to be the sweetest smell to ever come out of an aerosol can :)
Very impressive
Very good!!!!
I guess it really is a good idea to lube the slit in the butt pad before screwing it in:0)
what size pad will my 700 bdl in .06 fit?
That way I can be rid of that rigid plate Rem sold it with.
What's in the spray can that he's using for clean-up?
"Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before obscure men." Proverbs 22:29
I like that one : )

Proper Job
I use electrical tape it is much tougher. I use several raps at first, and remove raps as I get closer.
This is the same method I was taught over 10 years ago. Nice job. Not a fan of how you did the muzzle brake though!
nice work dude,You need to clean your work station...LOL...
Great instructional video! More Importantly, to echo sentiments of other viewers, great to see a solid young man embrace and perfect a trade. American craftsmanship.
FatherSonGunFun Um, pretty sure that's a Canadian accent.
I'm pretty sure Canada is in North America.
What pad do you like better? I heard that the limbsaver does not hold up to the pachmyer.
How much would it cost to have this done?
Excellet!
You look like Mark Tremonti's younger brother.
I need to fit one on my dad's old rifle (old butt disintegrated after 40 years of hard use) but only have access to a hand-held belt sander. Is this achievable?
Use your imagination and make it work.
What solution did you come up with. I'm about to face the same predicament.
Can i easily remove a recoil pad and replace it with a factory Original Butt Plate on my Winchester 1894?

Wow - all I can say.
I hope you learn to use a dust mask!
good...São Paulo - Capital - Brasil
$250 dollars later, not including the cost of the pad, and you can have one done your old rifle too.
So what you're saying is its a $30 part that you need $600 worth of grinders to install.
He didn't say anything of the sort. It is what he uses because he works in a shop and time is money, it's the quickest safe way.
Can see why guys charge $75 or more to install a pad.
Nice Job.
I shouted at the screen as you buggered-up customer's screws with your electric drill.
Like ~M~
PFG
I really enjoy plans from woodprix.
