    What was the red thing in the middle of the charcoal, which you used to light the fire in the begining?

      It was a charcoal starter. They come in many shapes and sizes. We recommend checking that it does not contain any toxic chemicals or wax before buying. This one is made of compressed sawdust.

    Why put it on coals if you've already heated it on an infrared

      Charcoal-heated water makes better tea. Bringing the kettle close to a boil on an infrared accelerates the process. Small charcoal braziers like this take a long time to heat a full kettle to a boil but they are perfect for maintaining heat throughout the session.
