      Nah, Hugh said you have 48 hours to unlock it or I open an eBay case which is reasonable but not necessary in the first message! If the seller isn't responding or said I can't unlock it for you, you can say that, no problem.

      @@samdarius3305 it was needed because the seller stated that the phone was removed from the icloud. But it wasn't. So in the instance he was perfectly in the right to do that because at that point the seller basically committed what is known as false advertisement.

It's just that when you mention it in the first message, It puts a lot of unnecessary stress on the seller. Having a little patience is the right thing to do in my opinion, but if the seller isn't responding or can't help, That's the way to go!

      the comparison for ease of repair between iphone and other brands is normally in the screen replacement. with iphone you take the screen off and transfer a couple things if not just one, with a samsung you have to take the back off and transfer everything he just did in the video just to fix a screen unless you have the tools to seperate the glass from the body of the phone. its rediculous

      @@matthowe2703 not true. There's a video on Hugh's channel where he bought 2 identical iphones and tried to exchange some parts between them.
      Everything, including screen was software locked and lost half of it's functionality after the replacement.

      No one sells or repairs broken phones where I live. Even if their broken they're priced at ~100Cad and would be too expensive to repair

      Put it this way more of the planet has to be dug up and destroyed ( of various degrees depending on country and Jungle it is in ) to get the rare minerals needed for electronics . Thats why i don't buy new gear anymore

    i love this kind of videos, it's a great skill to have. I've meddled with iPhone repairs before, but back in the 4s/6p days - this newer ones look daunting!
    such a shame about the software locks, back in the days you could slap in a chinese display and the only difference would be the quality itself, never had to worry about errors.

      i smashed my old Xs into the wall to a state that was more or less a dust, rendering it completely unrepairable, even the batter got on fire. As another fellow said: Anger issues :) i hope my 11pro has a better fate though.

    The black sticker over the apple logo on the rear housing is there to hide the apple logo from customs not to protect it.

    I would really recommend that you get some new meshs with the glue already applied. A set only costs about 2$ and that way you can make sure the phone is at least somewhat waterproof.

    I feel a little sad for such a huge effort in salvaging a heavily damaged phone only to be hampered by hostility towards repair from Apple. Such an ahole company!

      i honestly think there should be laws that don't allow software bound pairing, that you're forced to pay way more for the repair as when u want to do it by yourself.

      They've been an ahole company doing the exact same things since before the first iPhone - albeit to a smaller degree originally. This is the natural place where we have ended up because their fanboys enjoy paying more for inferior products and defending anti-consumer practices while being reamed by Apple.

    This happened to my xr when i came off my motorbike, I bought a new screen to test it still worked (everything smashed and shell was bent similar to this one), I plugged in the screen to find it still working perfectly. I bought a new shell and spend 3 hours stripping it down and completely rebuilding it. After it looked brand new and worked perfectly too.

    With the sandwich board design it amazes me greatly how lucky you were to still have a working board with such damage. I have done a few close to this and most suffer from broken connections between the halves. All in all good to see yet another device live on from certain death 👌

    Hey Hugh! you can get rid of battery warning message by simply replacing battery vmr chip of the orignal battery into the replacement one by removing the insulation tape and cutting of the chip but you have to be careful not to bend the flux cables. You do need micro welding machine to weld it to the replacement battery... I know it's tricky n long shot but I would love to see you doing this experiment in your next video.

    I wonder if HJ could make a complete iPhone from nothing, from just buying new and used parts?
    I'd love to see that, those 120 little screws and 1.5 mm rubber rings, the springs, that little plug so important for the SIM card operation. I'm sure he could, but it would be a great challenge and a brilliant video.

    Hey Hugh, love your vids, mate just to confirm, there is no way to remove the battery message? Have you looked into transferring the battery logic board and spot welding at all? If so, can you offer advice or provide a video on it?

    Check if the WiFi and Cellular work, as the sandwich board could easily be damaged with how severe of an impact that took.

    Amazing repair as always. But I have one question for you. I have seen many people copy the screen serial from the old screen to the new screen in order to preserve true tone functionality. In cases where the display is badly damaged, you can still use 3utools to get all the serial numbers of each iphone part including the screen's. Why diddn't you try doing that for the screen or any of the other parts that were not working like face id? Please reply :)

    These software restrictions make me very angry. I currently still use a Oneplus One, and after it fell in a puddle, I had to replace the motherboard and display, and it is still running fine after 2 years. Of course, I've also replaced the battery since.

      @@0w3nn yeah, to get rid of those messages you need to be a highly skilled board tech. You need to transferred the ic from the display flex over to the new screen, that makes the non genuine display message go away, you would need to transfer the bms board and spot weld it to the nickel contacts under the polyamide tape to remove the battery message. And the dot projector seems to just need a new crystal.
