    Omfg... after years of hating to draw in this program the settings at the start actually make sketching fun and easy. Thanks man, you're doing gods work.

    Wow...this tutorial is EXTREMELY easy to understand and follow. I found GIMP to be a little unorganized at first as well. You are what GIMP-noobs need my friend.

    For those who are using the Windows version, to change the "Input Devices" option, click the Edit Tab. "Input Devices" should be near the bottom of the drop down menu.

    This is, by far, the BEST tutorial I have seen on how to use GIMP. I now feel a like I can actually do something from scratch with just my mouse and imagination. Thank you for taking the time in your first video to go over what each tool was and showing how it worked, and giving the ONLY how to draw from scratch that I have seen after hours of searching.

    Thank you very much for this; I've been drawing on paper and pencil for years and finally decided to take the leap and bought a Wacom tablet and downloaded Gimp. Your tutorial is awesome! Thanks.

  • @danielrafferty4108
    @danielrafferty4108 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for all the pointers. My mate gave me a wacom but there's a device driver issue with my laptop so I gave up on that option. Given that I've just been going at with Gimp for the past seven months you've shown me how limited my approach has been.
    I've mainly been messing with multiple layers and overlaying sections of photographs on top of each other, messing with the opacities colour balance and contrast. Came up with some interesting images this way but I've been running out engaging ways to keep this style up.
    due to my lack of tablet or scanner in my new flat drawing by means of cage transformation seems to be the next step for me at the moment. I tried recreating your Mushroom, it proved a bit finicky so far. With practice comes perfect, I guess.
    Cheers for the lesson, you've raised my competence with the tools available that much more!

    i know these days krita seems to be everyone's choice for digital painting/drawing but it's pretty cool how much you can still do with GIMP, especially useful if you're already using it for photo editing and kind of know your way around the interface

    For anyone finding finding difficulty filling it sketches using the colour tool, make sure on your outline sketch to use a force of 100. This ensures your line art detection is accurate and there arent any blotchy white pixels on your line art.

    • @UnicornFilms2001
      @UnicornFilms2001 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ashi Sami
      Your pencil lines are on the layer below, right? SO when you remove something from the top, the bottom becomes visible. Do what the tutorial shows and insert a white layer between your Lineart/coloring and your background. That way you can't see the pencil lines. Either that or just delete the pencil lines, but you should wait until the end to do that so you don't get rid of your original reference point until you're sure you don't need it anymore.

      Try all the general troubleshooting methods. Delete and re-install GIMP, unplug and re-plug in your tablet, disable and re-enable the tablet in GIMP. It's only happening in GIMP, so unplugging and re-plugging it shouldn't do anything, but it never hurts to try. If it's still not working, post something in the GIMP forums or perhaps shoot customer service an email?

    Also instead of the drawing external tablet, I have been using my laptop that is touch screen, it came with a very good stylus and it's the HP Pacillion B&O or something, it's te best tuchscreen I have used. I'm wondering if I still should get the external drawing pad. I don't have to much extra money, hence the reason I'm using Gimp, is it actually better to use external drawing tablet, around the 50 to 80 range? I admit it would be nice not having to go into tablet mode, wondering if the accuracy and overall fell is worth it?? If anyone can give some feed back it would appreciated, I also have another laptop very powerfull and built a desktop I just need to install a Linux base OS onto it, so that would probably be what I use once my desk/office/gaming room is finished, it's like small storage room currently.

    I loved this bro. Fortunately for me not too sure where you mentioned the mouse method part but someone in the comments @Erick_Alden posted a time tag so I could skip to the appropriate section.
    Given myself a 365 sketching & GIMP challenge to create something everyday till 14.10.18.
    I'm going all my creations will be ft in my videos (lifestly reality vlogs/music videos/short films/events/photography/DJing/music) and some designs on my clothes that I'm also planning on making - learning to sew and make clothing. Haha LingLingProductions now has another brand ... soon to drop.
    Anyway bro, back to you. Keep it up! I enjoyed the way you simply explained the method. Maybe someday we'll collab. I like your style.
    Blessings bro, x
