I copped 3, VC, SA, 4 and all the DLC for it like a year before the trilogy dropped for 5 or 10 dollars on steam. I will never play the trilogy OG all day. You are doing the right thing.
I still struggle to see how the so-called future of gaming means struggling to recreate basic features of a 20 year old game trilogy This update is great, don't get me wrong, but how wasn't this in the original release already? The definitive edition was released three years ago
Because all what Grove Street Games do is put Unreal Engine, GTA The Trilogy and a AI in a Blender and call it a day. Not for nothing the new devs remove them from the new Splash screen 😂
It’s a similar case with the Star Wars Battlefront Collection. It was a slightly updated port of two 20 year-old games and yet there were and in some cases STILL ARE quite a few texture and audio bugs, and the camera controls feel off just to name a couple examples of things they messed up
Well the originals use the Renderware engine, which is now owned by EA and has been discontinued. So they decided to port the entire thing onto the Unreal Engine. When I say “port”, I really mean they used an AI to automate the generation process. Which is why you see the mess you do today.
Still, they didn't bring the original font back to the subtitles. I really hate that Arial Black font replacing the classic 80's style one in Vice City.
@@changhaoliu1222 And on San Andreas how they had newspaper like fonts when busted and wasted. The 80’s font from VC should return in that game and the sound when switching cameras in GTA3 and SA, since VC already has it.
Honestly a surprise but sure a welcome one. Glad they didn't just improve the mobile games and called it a day. Heck, the fact they even went out of their way to further improve on that is great. Naturally this doesn't changed the fact this should have been how it released back when it did, but with all the controversy regarding the triology having died down, its just nice to see something good for it instead of it being shoved under the rug.
They aren't "going out of their way" they are doing what they should be doing. They sold a broken, unfaithful product & they should fix it if their reputation means anything to them.
@@MeadeJ67 Exactly and honestly, last decade or so it kinda seems their reputation doesn't really matter that much to them anymore, at least not like it used to back in the 2000s, its just constant negativity surrounding them and I can't imagine they care as they are making insane amounts of money. But still, seeing them drop an update like this after three years was the last thing I expected. Honest to god thought they just had moved on and didn't care in the slightest. This doesn't change my views on them, but I would be lying if I said I wasnt surprised.
I woke up around 5 am this morning and couldn't go back to bed. I got on my Xbox and saw all 3 games had updates. I noticed the size was bigger than usual, but I just assumed it was bug fixes like it's always been for the definitive edition games. To my surprise, I saw that Rockstar updated the games to be in line with the Netflix verison. I'm really happy they did that. I saw people saying over the year that Rockstar wouldn't update the games anymore to make people play the "fixed" Netflix version. I kind of believed that too tbh, but I was honestly surprised at the shadowdrop. Even with classic lighting off, I noticed subtle and nice changes. For example, the Ocean View Hotel in Vice City looks like it has sharper textures and it definitely has better lighting. When I was driving around, it felt like the buildings just looked better somehow. Maybe the draw distance got improved, or the textures were also enhanced, or both. I couldn't tell. The world just felt better. The classic lighting in Vice City also gave the world a different feel, more realistic I think. I haven't played the update on San Andreas yet, so I can't comment on that, but Classic lighting for GTA 3 also was a nice improvement. It seems to add more cloud/fog (especially during sunrise) and it really helps set the mood for Liberty City.
"Netflix version" broke the purchased ones on Android. Now everytime I download either of the 5 mobile GTA I get locked out because I'm not paying per month (bought them all back in 2018)

I honestly can't believe no one in the studio was smart enough to say this that the classic lighting was needed, it captures the atmosphere of the original game. Like NO ONE pointed it out?
they are technically volumetric clouds, just not really. Volumetric clouds in game dev are clouds that have a volume (duh) and which you can pass through, GTA San Andreas fakes that volume by using multiple textured planes and rotating them around a center point to give the effect of volume. It can only be bearable, it’s still the awful buggy mobile version with missing content. San Andreas barely works on its original incarnation, remaking it completely is the only appropriate option for 2020.
Even the original had severe problems that could be fixed. Like gang wars being utterly broken sometimes, the enemy ai just runs away and if you chase them you fail because you left the warzone.

Good idea! It’s crazy that they made the classic version’s unavailable. Should have been an option in the definitive edition to play the original game.
They've also improved particle effects like when you vomit and they fixed things like CJ holding the barbell at an angel in the gym. I feel like even the explosions have been improved. The game feels a lot better now in general.
They finally fixed the Jumbo Jet door in the Las Venturas airport, before it would just make a noise and be still but now it actually goes down again! 🔥🙏🏻
honestly, the definitive edition really showed me how a lighting color change can really make graphics look better or worse. (except gta 4's blurry green tint. I still don't like that. specially the fisheye lens effect they tried to add when looking up. good thing that was left out in gta 5)
Something so simple that is crazy that it hasn't been updated yet is how when you crash in to a fence, a traffic light or a lamppost it just falls through the ground, flies 50 miles away or bounces weirdly on the floor
I bought the PS4 version physically thinking it would let me install the PS5 version. It still doesn't and the update hasn't applied to the last gen versions sadly. It's good that they put in the effort but I'm not buying the game again, especially when there's no physical version for the PS5
@ProtectusCZ Ever heard of GoG? No matter, even physical media gets tarnished by this curse so im not surprised people forget they have basic right with how consumer hostile most american companies are. Still, you're right that one should not be quick to trust R*. I still refuse to ever buy GTA 6 until they either A: Relist the originals, or B: Make the Defective Edition 100% authentic/superior to the originals. I just wanted to give the devil credit where its due because i hate being negative all the time.
Now I'm a little tempted to buy it on sale because it looks like the best combination of OG and DE with the classic lighting and all other improvments.
I doubt it, but I really hope Rockstar completely fixes these games so they can actually be the Definitive Editions, this isn't hating on the originals I still love those but I can still wish for these versions of the games to get improved as well.
It’s a step in the right direction ! Hopefully we’ll be getting a Vice city stories definitive edition as well , if they keep improving I might consider buying it
would it? i think gta4 is much closer to modern games than the 3/vc/sa trilogy are. i find the mechanics very good but even though the graphics are getting a bit outdated, the game still is great.
still holds up , and if they ever will announce it might as well go for enb mods since they'll just do the same job as the trilogy , slap a new coat of paint
This is why I HATE modern day devs, they just think they don't need to put any effort on a game on release day because they can just fix their f-ups years later. If a game is not great on DAY ONE, I don't care about any future updates. No Man's Sky was the first and last time I wanted to see this, but sadly it has become a trend.

Dude.. 1 week ago I replayed all of these.. and they release this. Ok, better than never! And finally Las Venturas is purple again.. I was afraid this was just a port of the mobile update.
So glad this has happened. I bit the bullet and bought this after watching it rise in price by £4 in CEX. To see this has redeemed R* somewhat. Looking forward to further improvements.
I noticed when I played San Andreas today that the modding garage had a new colour option. Lime green on the bottom right. Awesome! Went to select it - and it was just black, or a very deep burgundy. Switched off, came back later in the day, and the square panel had been changed to match the actual car colour. Weird…
You were wrong about the classic lighting part. When going to different locations, you could see different sky appearances like night purple sky in desert, and I saw it myself and other ppl talking about this. This wasn’t in mobile version but it got added back for PC and consoles.

I really hope they fixed the 100% bug, it has to do with the arena side mission in San Ferro, and using the auto save bugs the game from letting u archive 100%
@SeriousDragonify It doesn't matter who made it, because everyone involved in the project knew it was an unfinished, broken disaster. Rockstar knew, and so did GSG. This project needs to be done from the ground up, with the help of members of the modding community, the people who are fans of the game and know exactly how it should look and play. At least then, you know you'd have a fun game to play. But seriously though, why wasn't an update like this pushed years ago? Or even just a part of the game at launch? It's laughable, and is exceptionally disrespectful to this game and it's legacy.
What would be even more amazing is if they can give us the option to switch between classic and remastered graphics, like what we saw in Halo MCC and Tomb Raider.
The PC port still suffers from terrible performance issues. It’s hard to believe that I can play GTA 5 on max settings without any problems, yet I struggle to run any of the Definitive Edition games smoothly.

It's disgusting what they did. They treat their consumers like trash.
@@GrumpyCat97*too busy milking a game from 11 years ago
They couldn't they lost the original source code and the originals used the RenderWare engine on PS2. The pc port wasn't even that good
you can play the original version at 60fps with a mod called Framerate Vigilante
Crazy how it has taken them THIS long to make such simple improvements that should have been made before release date. I want to play this now.
Now drop the price to like 20 bucks, include the old versions and drop the price on the mobile ports too
Yup since the developers who made the definitive editions stopped working on it and they've moved development to another studio it's been much better
You can even see cars catching on fire now, instead of immediately exploding! 😆
01:00 - this is interesting, cuz on Netflix it's Los Santos orange sky all over the map
GTA 3 is blue tint depressing and foggy GTA vice City is blue and San Andreas is orange tinted
@@CARLJOHNSON-ny8snSA has different filters for each city
They finally fixed the Jumbo Jet door in the Las Venturas airport, before it would just make a noise and be still but now it actually goes down again! 🔥🙏🏻
I literally just redownloaded these last week for their achievements, so this update is very much appreciated.
honestly, the definitive edition really showed me how a lighting color change can really make graphics look better or worse.
(except gta 4's blurry green tint. I still don't like that. specially the fisheye lens effect they tried to add when looking up. good thing that was left out in gta 5)
I thought this version had been abandoned, but I see they're making slow but steady progress. Now it’s actually worth giving this version a chance.
They need to remake IV, bully, the warriors
YES
Also fix the BULLA AE
They have also fixed the police station Garages its fully accessible now where before it was blocked out
Few more updates and it will be close to something that it should have been on release. XD
Few more updates, and it will be closer to the original PS2 release from 20 years ago
Man you work fast. I'm not complaining.
Something so simple that is crazy that it hasn't been updated yet is how when you crash in to a fence, a traffic light or a lamppost it just falls through the ground, flies 50 miles away or bounces weirdly on the floor
Still sticking with PC modded and PS2 version
Brings back ps2 era childhood experience once again san Andreas hope it updates with more classic things
it seems they are back to update right now
They arent.
People who made LA Noire vr did.
Almost a 150k views in 15 hours is CRAZY, you're blowing up bro.
I bought the PS4 version physically thinking it would let me install the PS5 version. It still doesn't and the update hasn't applied to the last gen versions sadly. It's good that they put in the effort but I'm not buying the game again, especially when there's no physical version for the PS5
They just release the patch for the ps4, xbox one and switch versions. But being unable tu update the physical version is horrible, like why not?
Finally some improvement after such a long time
Good job R*. Keep this up and i wont feel morally bankrupt buying your games in the future.
"renting" games, we don't own anything in the age of digital media
@@crazyyLexa yet you cared enough to reply to my post
@ProtectusCZ Ever heard of GoG? No matter, even physical media gets tarnished by this curse so im not surprised people forget they have basic right with how consumer hostile most american companies are.
Still, you're right that one should not be quick to trust R*. I still refuse to ever buy GTA 6 until they either A: Relist the originals, or B: Make the Defective Edition 100% authentic/superior to the originals.
I just wanted to give the devil credit where its due because i hate being negative all the time.
Rockstar have nothing to do with this game, its Take-Two and another small game studio
Now I'm a little tempted to buy it on sale because it looks like the best combination of OG and DE with the classic lighting and all other improvments.
Now if they can fix the broken physics
I remember how good it was to see the city behind with all the artistic style of those times. :)
We got a huge update for GTA trilogy before GTA 6
Good of them! They are effin rockstar games, can’t let this just sit there forever and not fixing it.
@@ricoimf777 I wouldn’t mind Rockstar focusing on finishing this game first before finishing and releasing GTA6.
duh
It's cool they went with atmosphere of the original ps2 release lighting wise instead of the original pc and xbox's "cleaned" up lighting
I doubt it, but I really hope Rockstar completely fixes these games so they can actually be the Definitive Editions, this isn't hating on the originals I still love those but I can still wish for these versions of the games to get improved as well.
I went to take a dump and left this playing I thought I got something on my display but they I realised it’s just GTA’s Defective Edition
They still have so many things to fix though.
nice they finally fixed the vibes of the different cities, I might consider buying it now
The update isn't out on PS4 yet.
currently not releasing on pastGen and Switch as of release

It’s a step in the right direction ! Hopefully we’ll be getting a Vice city stories definitive edition as well , if they keep improving I might consider buying it
I hope they announce GTA 4 Definitive Edition. That would be peak
The Complete Edition is basically that.
would it? i think gta4 is much closer to modern games than the 3/vc/sa trilogy are. i find the mechanics very good but even though the graphics are getting a bit outdated, the game still is great.
It doesn't need to be definitive or remastered they just need to port it to PSN and xbox
still holds up , and if they ever will announce it might as well go for enb mods since they'll just do the same job as the trilogy , slap a new coat of paint
@@umnickaleatorio But imagine a port... that actually works out of the box! On all major platforms.
Man I love the classic lightning mod - Nostalgic vibes ❤
This is why I HATE modern day devs, they just think they don't need to put any effort on a game on release day because they can just fix their f-ups years later. If a game is not great on DAY ONE, I don't care about any future updates. No Man's Sky was the first and last time I wanted to see this, but sadly it has become a trend.
they should've just included the originals in the purchase of the definitive edition, like mafia did
Update not triggering on PS4 as of yet. Not sure if it’s just delays due to traffic or if this is purely a next gen update.
PS4 isn't getting the update, it's only for PS5/XSX/PC.

I dont regret it being my only Day 1 purchase in 10 years. Its just nice to drive around and hear the music but with the new lighting im excited
Honestly really surprising they are doing any updates this long after release, if they continue working on it and modders show these games some love then the DE might actually be competitive with the originals
Dude.. 1 week ago I replayed all of these.. and they release this. Ok, better than never! And finally Las Venturas is purple again.. I was afraid this was just a port of the mobile update.
Was some one bored in rockstar what a joke taking this long to this
2 whole years 😂
Pretty sure its Takes Two fault, not Rockstar games
ITS ABOUT F’N TIME! I was waiting for this update to happen before returning to these classics.
Wtf it took them years to fix this lol

I noticed when I played San Andreas today that the modding garage had a new colour option. Lime green on the bottom right. Awesome! Went to select it - and it was just black, or a very deep burgundy. Switched off, came back later in the day, and the square panel had been changed to match the actual car colour. Weird…

Best news so far today!
I refuse to buy this trilogy. It's disgusting how Rockstar took the originals away to sell this awful buggy mess
It’s not buggy anymore it’s actually worth playing now
I really hope they fixed the 100% bug, it has to do with the arena side mission in San Ferro, and using the auto save bugs the game from letting u archive 100%
I feel like I've waited long enough... it's finally time to pick this up.
It took them 3 years to fix this shit?
Rockstar didnt work on this.
People who made LA Noire vr did.
Im excited to buy this collection once it gets fully fixed, its a miracle that rockstar didn't abandon it completely
I never thought I would say this, but this might be worth buying now...
Wait for 3/4 more updates. (See you in 5 years)
Wait until they add 100% authentic classic visuals of the original PS2 game without the modern day bells and whistles.
1:16 now we can listen blinding lights and play the game with classic lightning with this one🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I've always loved the blue tinge San Fierro has. Just so relaxing.
This is a pretty solid remaster at this point, it’s come a long way!
The best fix they can bring, is to class controls actually make the controls match 1:1 the PS2 controls.
