- We picked up our first grail level game!
Owen Rubin's Major Havoc is a love letter to vector technology, and the last color vector machine from Atari that saw release (Look up Tomcat, it's really cool). We've wanted one for a while, as it intersects with a lot of our interests, and is going to be the centerpiece of our vector row for years to come!
It's been under wraps in the last couple videos, but we're finally starting to open it up and see what's what.
So excited to get this project going, because this is going to be a centerpiece of our arcade for years to come!

Congrats guys! Can't wait to play it! Get the custom full conversion sideart FTW.
Thanks! We’ll keep you up to date 👍
Congrats on that find. It still amazes me that a game I created 40 years ago is still in such demand. Enjoy.
Holy Crap! What an honor!
There are a few games from the 80s that definitely feel to me like they were light years ahead of their time. Havoc is one of them. It's such a work of art. Not just the art on the cab (which is gorgeous and reminds me of 2001's light speed scene), but the game itself. Can't believe how much was packed into your game, all the little puns and details, the personality (and impatience!) in Rex, and how much more was packed into The Promised End.
It really does feel like the apotheosis of vector display technology, and can't thank you enough for bringing it into the world where hopefully we can bring one more back from the dead.
Thanks for stopping in and watching our video! Just a little star struck right now...
Woohoo! Congratulations! This is my favorite cabinet style!
Definitely agree (outside the dedicated cabinet of course). I think for me it's because the space duel style cabinets already housed a variety of games. But anything that isn't tempest looks really weird in a tempest cabinet. (And you'd have to hacksaw it 😢)
Congratulations! Great pick up.
Thanks!
Major Get.
The rejuvenation will be interesting.
Thanks it should be a fun restoration 😊
Awesome guys!!!! I also recently pick my first grail, a Spyhunter!
Congrats!
YESSSSS!!!! I’m not sure why Sam is worried about a dissertation anymore… YOU HAVE A MAJOR HAVOC NOW!! It doesn’t get any better than that. Congrats and thanks for the shoutout!
Why major in mechanical engineering when I can major in havoc 😂 Liam just gotta get the game working so I can start studying 😋
Thanks
Another really enjoyable video. I love this channel. 😎 👍🏻
Aww thank you 😊
Hey with a little expansion you two can pass galloping ghost! How cool would that be 😀congrats on the newest grail find 🎊
Goals! I don’t know where we would put that many games but it would be glorious!
I love you guys' videos. I live vicariously through this channel. I bought a fully-functional dual display Cyberball 2072 around the turn of the century (my favorite game from college) & eventually sold it to a good home but it was a delight while I had it. 😁
Thank you so much! Oh that’s cool, we have only gotten to play Cyberball 2072 once. It’s never too late to get back in the game 😉
I am hoping for Computer Space. That is a grail worthy game.
Computer space would be cool! But those cabs are just a teensy bit out of our price range, broken or not!
Great pickup. That is a grail worthy game.
Have you heard about replacing the "big blue?" -- smh. Removing the transformer assembly and missing that, bro. Come on.
Bob is totally right. Everybody knows replacing the big blue always fixes everything. SMH! Get rid of that isolation transformer and install a PC switching power supply, newb!
@9:50 - more erroneous commentary. Star Wars was the game designed for the Amplifone monitor, that is the monitor Star Wars 19" and 25" cockpit games were shipped with, any Atari color vector works fine with a 6100, picture is different for sure in crispness in Star Wars, but Major Havoc was mostly found in the cabinet you have, Space Duel and of course Tempest, those were the kit cabinets. Finding a Major Havoc conversion with a working Amplifone would be odd. The very very few MH dedicated cabinets, some had Amplifones. No one knows for sure. Too little sample of the dedicated found. Quantum was the other game besides Star Wars that was shipped with the Amplifone montior and looks best when used with Amplifone, there are less of those than dedicated Major Havoc games. You will be lucky to ever again find a MH dedicated or an I, Robot. Not without paying thousands to a collector. Major Havoc boardsets are all the same, there is no "slow down the clock" to work with said monitor as you say. Incorrect.
Your disinformation will not be tolerated.
Come on, people! Pay no attention to this Owin Roobin commenter or the Atari technical bulletins, Bob knows what he’s talking about!
@@overtimearcade - When you operated the game new and received and still have all those technical bulletins, yep, ya know. Dope.
@@bobgomez9481 Cool story, Bob! Sounds like you know more than the people who built this game -- I'm impressed! I guess anyone who points out that dedicated MH boards came with a quad POKEY while conversions came with the quad POKEY eliminator board, and that there were different speed clock crystals installed at Y1 & Y2, must be wrong, eh?
@@overtimearcade - Oh wow, tech talk! I guess the factory didn't really care though eh? The kits went out to use whatever monitor was handy. Operators sure didn't care and the game was an flop on top of it all. But you're the only one who knows it all, internet guy. You win.
@@bobgomez9481 Sorry if all this is over your head! But there's a difference whether you care about it or not, it affects the gameplay, and it's easily addressed -- and this has been well-known for many years by people in the hobby. But I don't think any less of you for not being familiar with this!
Appreciate your efforts. But you really should have lived this period, playing these and then buying them for $50...
