Just a couple of roboticists trying to have fun after work/on the weekends. Stay tuned for our arcade restorations, random robots, unnecessary home mods, cosplay, outdoor adventures, and whatever else we decide to do!
The Ultimate Arcade Weekend! Addams Family and Sinistar Pickups Plus Galloping Ghost!
What an insane whirlwind of a weekend!
We finally managed to land our ultimate Holy Grail pinball game - Bally's The Addams Family! The machine was in Chicago, so while we were on our way to get it, we decided to stop at Galloping Ghost! It was there that we were finally able to play our last Grail Arcade game, Atari's I Robot! And on our way home WITH the Addams, what do we see on FB marketplace, but one of the nicest Sinistars we have EVER seen! So naturally, we grabbed that too!
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride! This is definitely a weekend to go down in the history books!

Playing All Our Cocktail Arcade Games As A Tournament!
มุมมอง 1682 หลายเดือนก่อน
Competition leads to entertainment, at least that's the theory right? We figured, given our six cocktail arcade games, that we could play a full tournament of them! The games are: Millipede: 00:00 Crystal Castles: 06:26 Space Duel: 21:33 Ms. Pac-Man: 30:14 Asteroids: 43:27 Dig Dug: 48:07 Best to 4, and if we tied at 3, the tiebreaker would be JOUST! Let's Go! Also I know I can't count lol. This...
Eclipse Special - Atari Lunar Lander* Showcase!
มุมมอง 1693 หลายเดือนก่อน
NASA last landed on the moon in 1972. Atari's Lunar Lander touched down in the arcades of Earth a few years later in 1979. This one fell into our grasp in 2023. Quite a span. Only... It's.. Not a real lunar Lander. Really it's just an Asteroids in a Lunar Lander hat, but that doesn't stop it from being fun! We found the control panel in an auto junkyard and knew we had to do something fun with ...
We Picked up A Q*bert!
มุมมอง 4864 หลายเดือนก่อน
Q*Bert has long been the number one game on our list, and it's definitely proved the most difficult game we've actively been searching for to find! But we finally found one! Q*Bert is an isometrically viewed puzzle #arcade game (and our first puzzle game) designed by Warren Davis for Gottlieb. Q*Bert went on to become Gottlieb's only smash hit success, and was merchandised in every corner of th...
We Failed Our Way Through Gate of Doom!
มุมมอง 1205 หลายเดือนก่อน
Gate of Doom is a 1990 #arcade Game by Data East. It was released in a dedicated form factor, but may were conversions. The international version of Gate of Doom was called Dark Seal. Our game is from Germany, so it has the Dark Seal moniker, instead of Gate of Doom. There was also a sequel to the game, called Wizard Fire (or Gate of Doom II Internationally). We really suck at this game. But we...
Robotron Episode 3: JROK'd No More! Installing Original PCBs
มุมมอง 2245 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's been a while since we've really talked about our Robotron. Our last video on the subject was 8 months ago, when we showed we had it working... but with a JROK instead of an actual PCB. While the JROK can perfectly recreate the gameplay of Robotron, being an FPGA, it just wasn't *original* enough for us. So. Here we are, finally! We've got an original boardset, an original power supply, and...
We Tried and Failed to Play Through Smash T.V.
มุมมอง 1036 หลายเดือนก่อน
Smash TV is a long game. It's also a hard game. It's the Spiritual Successor to Robotron: 2084, and for that virtue, it has earned a place in our arcade. Have we ever played all the way through it before this? No. Have we played as far as we got? No. Did we actually play through it? Also no... But not for a lack of trying. This is not a video that went successfully. We would have re-done it, bu...
Konami's Six Player X-Men Arcade Pickup - Our Largest Machine Ever!
มุมมอง 5807 หลายเดือนก่อน
Our Last Pickup to Round Out The Year! We drove to Larger than Life Comics in NY to pick up this Six Player X-Men Arcade Machine, by far the physically largest machine we've ever had. This is the first machine that definitely couldn't fit in Sam's car, so we had to get the largest trailer that UHaul had in order to fit this behemoth. Worth it. We first played the six player X-Men at Magfest (Mu...
Atari Major Havoc Episode 2 - PCB Audio and Vector Output Repair!
มุมมอง 1928 หลายเดือนก่อน
We've been working on the PCB and the Monitor for our Atari Major Havoc Restoration simultaneously, but it looks like the PCB has crossed the finish line first. There were a few things wrong with this board, and we show how we found them and fixed them. It looks like now the board works pretty well, so if there are any remaining issues, hopefully they show themselves in a relatively obvious and...
We Picked Up Our First Grail Game - Atari's Major Havoc!
มุมมอง 7438 หลายเดือนก่อน
We picked up our first grail level game! Owen Rubin's Major Havoc is a love letter to vector technology, and the last color vector machine from Atari that saw release (Look up Tomcat, it's really cool). We've wanted one for a while, as it intersects with a lot of our interests, and is going to be the centerpiece of our vector row for years to come! It's been under wraps in the last couple video...

An Unexpected Pickup: Complete, All-Original Atari Firefox!
I vividly remember playing this game in multiple arcades growing up as a kid in California in the mid '80s - specifically the sit down version. Seems like they were always next to the skeet shooting game (Namco "Shootaway"). Every decent arcade seemed to have one around '84-'85 & then they all suddenly vanished. Good to see you keeping at least one original around.
I have two cocktails! A millipede cocktail that I’ve had for over 20 years and I recently got a home use only space duel cocktail with less than 400 plays and it is stunning
Congratulations Sam! The hard work paid off. Glad it was a great weekend. Will you both be at camp in a couple weeks?
Thank you 🤓 Yeah we will be there!
@@retroboticssee u there 😎
Hey guys!!! I just got my grail game. A food fight cocktail!!!
Nice!! Food Fight is such an unusual cocktail, very good looking too! Congrats!
Mk2 CPU are notorious for button reading you need to exploit them to be consistent at the game at all in single player. As someone who is big into the fgc and understands fighting games no one is "just good at fighting games" it takes some any dedication, but after you understand one it's much easier to pick up more and learn fast
I need a vector room 😂. And congrats on 500🎉🎉
Haha everyone needs a vector room 😂 Thanks!
SOOOOO. BIIIIIIG. I have seen one of these in person and the scale in video does not donit justice.......and whats even better than a gigantic cabinet is the fact the Sam referred to it as RAD. 🎉
Haha it is huge and rad 😂
Tron is such a cool cabinet and i love the franchise as well.
Yeah Tron is awesome!
I had a similar situation to your pickup. Listed as arcade game. But free, lucky me I was first in line so I got a FREE Tron. Complete sans monitor and back doors
Your arcade is so awesome. Great space and room tonexpand which is even better
Thanks, we should have a 3.0 tour up soon and it getting pretty packed now 😅
This is so RAD! I really want to add a lunar lander to my collection.
Yeah it is definitely really cool and the thruster interface is so unique!
I bought a braze multi kit before he closed up shop just for this very purpose.
Glad you got it working so quickly and I'm happy it went to you guys!
Thank you again for choosing us to take it on! We're so glad to have it in our collection, and it's been getting a ton of play!
Nice. Now everything is about to be very brown 😂
Haha thank goodness for plastic wrap 😂
Nice work. I restored one of these a while back. I was never able to reglue the magnets and successfully calibrate the player. Instess I bought a player that was repaired and
Yeah, the players are difficult to take on. We tried three, and only had success with two of them. Sam's 3D printed jig makes everything easier though!
Congrats Dr. Sam! And congrats on the pickup!
Thanks!!
Wow! Incredible pair of pickups! The thrill of the hunt is one thing, but getting games in good condition is the icing on the cake! Will you ever run out of room for games?! Congratulations on your PhD!!!
Games are like a gas, they fill all available space 😅 And thanks!
Great video! Qbert is such a classic!
Thank you! It really is 😃
awesome video restoring this old machine. Out of curiosity where were you googling all the time. my brother has had a Robotron that I gave him years ago and I am having a hell of a time trying to fix it after his kid kicked it.
forums.arcade-museum.com/ Lots of great information here for old games like Robotron. Best resource around. Sorry to hear about that robotron though. Check the connectors if it died after a kick. The original Williams connectors on the PCBs were terrible, and may need to be cleaned or replaced.
What an awesome selection! I would prob never leave lol
Thanks 😃
Interesting! Thank you for the video
Thanks!
Awesome video! Sam needs to score a point every time she snorts! Just saying..
Thanks! Haha, I (Sam) like this concept for a weighted points system in my favor 😆
First of your videos I’m watching, this is great! You and your wife are too cool. 😎
Thank you!
The Crystal Castles gameplay was great!
Thanks 😄 We love Crystal Castles, we just repaired the trackballs so now it’s even more fun to play.
@@retrobotics Mine sounds like sand is in it. Way overdue for a rebuild.
Hey you two have a great weekend 🥂good times
Thanks you too!
Good times. ❤
Yeah it was really fun to have some friendly competition 😆
Wow, skills! 2 free lives on your first life! I have a standup Millipede with the mutipede setup, but I'm not nearly that good!:)
Thanks! Millipede is so much fun!
In the 80s bartenders let kids in only to play cocktail games and smoke cigarettes! How times have changed.
Haha 😂
I used to play the 4P version of this...I had no idea they made a 6P version! Has to be the most P ever available in one arcade cabinet?
There are a couple other six player games out there, but they certainly aren't portable! Check out the galaxian 3 theater!
I'm a little late seeing this, but congratulations on your wedding. I love the arcade, and I love the shop. Great video guys
Thanks so much!!
You are both genuises. Excellent work. What about Red Baron and The Empire Strikes Back for vector games?
Haha thanks 😂 Those aren’t on the list currently, we got to try out both before but we would rather have the original Star Wars game and we could always play Empire on it using a multi kit.
C2 ....D4......F7 The most PLEASENT SOUND AND LOOK AT YOUR LABLE AND PLAY MUSIC HORIZONTALLY for 25 cent. In my days in Tony' s little dinner which we called it 2 names Fat Harry's because around the corner was the back and they played illegal Numbers games. But that Seeburg Jukebox was the funkest Box on Germantown Ave in Mt. Airy in the late 60's and 70's and loud after 4 pm . Because all the students came there to dance in this Afro American Black funky shack. That Jukebox never stopped. We danced so hard that the suspension would rock back and forth without skipping a beat ! Just to show how well made the burg could handle the stomping heat . Negros Dance yaa we do lol . With Tamla lable Motown labels Stax lable Atlantic label Blue Note lable Prestige Lable Epic lable from Sly & the family Stones to LULU it was a rock to R & B Jukebox eclectic. The record man would replace the stylus frequently. And FIRE WOULD ROAR AFTER THE CHANGE . Seeburg was dynamic in there bass and highs because there tweeters where up top left to right .Harry had his modified with a extra amp and tweeters because he said i like to hear my horn section from jazz45 's. The doller gave 7 to 12 selections depending on how much coins went in . I think for those special long album played specials was 7. Which i thought at the time how did a album play on them . And all along it was a 3 to 4 song 45 on each side. Seeburg is my box of choice..then Rowe and Rock olla or Whirlitzer. Even thou there gems in there design. Thank you for the slow motion stop and pull and play mechanism display. I love seeburgs .They should revamped it for today . Since vinyl is coming back in for the ones that missed the WHOLE BEAUTY OF RECORD PLAYING AND THE LABLES AND COMPANIES THAT HAD THERE SOUND TO IDENTIFY WITH As well as the beauty of labels. And lable making . So to identify. Missss THAT!!!! Very much so . Thanks YOU. 🌀👋🏽🎼🇺🇸
It’s Space Sam! Better stick that a nice soft landing, way better than Pete Conrad!
Thanks 👩🏻🚀
That Morse code attract mode is pure genius! Love that!
You reliance on a meter over changing 40+ year old parts is mind blowing. Rebuild it and it will work.
Have you heard about replacing the "big blue?" -- smh. Removing the transformer assembly and missing that, bro. Come on.
Bob is totally right. Everybody knows replacing the big blue always fixes everything. SMH! Get rid of that isolation transformer and install a PC switching power supply, newb!
@9:50 - more erroneous commentary. Star Wars was the game designed for the Amplifone monitor, that is the monitor Star Wars 19" and 25" cockpit games were shipped with, any Atari color vector works fine with a 6100, picture is different for sure in crispness in Star Wars, but Major Havoc was mostly found in the cabinet you have, Space Duel and of course Tempest, those were the kit cabinets. Finding a Major Havoc conversion with a working Amplifone would be odd. The very very few MH dedicated cabinets, some had Amplifones. No one knows for sure. Too little sample of the dedicated found. Quantum was the other game besides Star Wars that was shipped with the Amplifone montior and looks best when used with Amplifone, there are less of those than dedicated Major Havoc games. You will be lucky to ever again find a MH dedicated or an I, Robot. Not without paying thousands to a collector. Major Havoc boardsets are all the same, there is no "slow down the clock" to work with said monitor as you say. Incorrect. Your disinformation will not be tolerated.
Come on, people! Pay no attention to this Owin Roobin commenter or the Atari technical bulletins, Bob knows what he’s talking about!
@@overtimearcade - When you operated the game new and received and still have all those technical bulletins, yep, ya know. Dope.
@@bobgomez9481 Cool story, Bob! Sounds like you know more than the people who built this game -- I'm impressed! I guess anyone who points out that dedicated MH boards came with a quad POKEY while conversions came with the quad POKEY eliminator board, and that there were different speed clock crystals installed at Y1 & Y2, must be wrong, eh?
@@overtimearcade - Oh wow, tech talk! I guess the factory didn't really care though eh? The kits went out to use whatever monitor was handy. Operators sure didn't care and the game was an flop on top of it all. But you're the only one who knows it all, internet guy. You win.
@@bobgomez9481 Sorry if all this is over your head! But there's a difference whether you care about it or not, it affects the gameplay, and it's easily addressed -- and this has been well-known for many years by people in the hobby. But I don't think any less of you for not being familiar with this!
Dude. You need to learn more. @3:30 - NOT an Omega Race spinner. Midway spinner is 1000000% different animal. The only thing that will work on this game is an Atari Tempest style spinner, or of course the original roller in the dedicated cabinet. Stop saying such dumb unqualified shit in your vids you wish to monetize. You have literally 40+ years of video game knowledge to learn and catch up. Ask questions of those of us who know while we are still alive. Appreciate the fact that you even like our 8 bit lives of the 1980's. But STOP talking.
Appreciate your efforts. But you really should have lived this period, playing these and then buying them for $50...
And - never try to fix a Philips LDP. You won't win.
Actually, we did fix the laser disc player. And we have a second one too! Our Firefox runs beautifully now. You can check it out here. th-cam.com/video/y0WY2ndycQ4/w-d-xo.html
@@retrobotics I bet you it stops working again sometime this century! Never argue with Bob! Never prove Bob wrong!
@@retrobotics - you're one of the lucky few. I had a tech 25 years ago trying to fix one and almost lost body parts as the disc flew out of the player. Dangerous item, that player.
Video turned off @9:05 with "Amplifinney monitor" - It is pronounced AMP-LIH-PHONE.
Awesome score! So glad the two of you got this after all the nonsense you went through to find one! And thanks for the shoutout!
Thanks! Good luck restoring your 2 Q*berts 😉
The laserdisc players inside Firefox never work😅 the players inside them are pretty much junk and I would go with the Dexter option as it is super reliable but that’s my opinion.
Check out our part 3 video! th-cam.com/video/y0WY2ndycQ4/w-d-xo.html We fixed the laserdisc player successfully (and we have a spare nearly working). Unfortunately, dexter is no longer in production either :(
Congrats on the pickup! Looks like a very nice machine!
Thanks! Yeah we got lucky to get one in such nice condition 😃
Congrats on finding Qbert! I've tried playing it on Atgames Legends and it isn't the same without the diagnol joystick.
Thanks, yeah it is not the same. Thankfully we just got the right joystick!
Great video as always. So glad to see you achieved your quest of finally getting a Qbert. Some games just fall into your lap at times and other games really make you work for that score. Nice addition!
Thanks, yeah we are glad this quest has been completed!
I got so excited when I saw you two had made a new video. Woo hoo!!! 😎👍🏻 I learned so much about Q Bert. Great video 👍🏻
Thanks 😄
Q*bert @!#?@! rules.
@!#?@! yeah it does!
I wish i had that luck
Yeah we are so happy we scored a 6-player! Holy grail (for Sam)
Looks like a fun game. Def munched some quarters.
Yeah we would be spending SO much more money on quarters if we didn’t just buy the games… therefore we can justify buying the games… is what we tell ourselves 😅
My favorite part was the two of you trying to soft-lock the other on the far side of falling bridges! But the foul language coming from Sam really threw me for a loop! LOL
Haha yeah we had fun messing with each other while playing. Gameplay brings out my (Sam) competitive side I guess 😂
Fellow crusaders pray tell how is Freya Edirne a wizard and not a witch?
