Metal polish (Brasso) works just as well, is 100 times cheaper, but a little more difficult to clean up.

Thanks for all of the amazing content TGV, you're easily my go to resource for anything horology related! I've always had a burgeoning interest in the hobby but never felt like I had the bank balance to participate, you really showed me that you can be an enthusiast without having a Patek in your watch box. Keep up the amazing work!

For an analog “beater” I would have to recommend the Casio MRW-200H at $20 and the Casio MDV106-1A “Duro” at approx $50.

My collection seems almost weird to me, I picked 6 different all-purpose Casio watches I think are good for any situation even as a beater watch. Three of them are G-Shocks--DW5600, GBD-800, G100. Three of them aren't--W-S220C, AQ-160W, MRW-200H. All offer great value for the money and I'd recommend any of those six. I enjoy deciding which one I'm gonna strap on for the day, and seeing what others are enjoying themselves. Great video and channel ✅

As a beginner watch collector, I really appreciate this list. I have a spring bar tool.....and that's it! Will definitely get an expanded tool set. Love the books, found a few Kindle versions but I think the paper is better. The only thing I'd add to the list is an inexpensive watch time graph like a Weishi which I just ordered! Along with Long Island Watches, you guys are absolutely the best, and as a beginner I've been checking them all. Your watch holder is nice so as soon I buy the next one I will need it! Your dive watch design collaboration is a beauty.. Very happy to be part of a great community. I'm getting a lot of advice from the channel and also the comments from subscribers who know a lot more than I do. Thanks everyone!

I love that you have a Casio digital watch in your collection. A big middle finger to the snobs and a frothing cheers to the disciples of practicality. My first watch purchase about 6 years ago was a Casio A168. It served me for five years until the battery died and I, unwisely, tried to service it myself. The gasket was cactus, but it worked okay for a couple months before dying. It just needs servicing professionally and I'm sure it would work fine again. In September 2020 I bought a cheap "youth" replacement on Amazon, the W-217HM-7B. It has offered typical Casio reliability, but somehow recently I got bitten by the watch collecting bug and have been geeking out ever since. Most of the watches covered are of course mechanical analogue items, so it's nice to see a realist who's happy to show off a classic piece of digital technology.

Another superb video TGV! Can't think of anything you've missed... Maybe a good microfiber cloth, scotch brite sponge to restore brushed metal surfaces.... Case presses are fairly inexpensive, and handy for stubborn case backs. I just picked up an ultrasonic cleaner that's handy for metal bracelets. But it all starts with a case knife and a spring bar tool. I wonder what Hugo suggests??? :)

    • @benjaminbarrera214
      @benjaminbarrera214 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The case presses can be dangerous! Some people use the wrong die, or the watch slips and they wind up cracking the crystal. Sometimes the hands and dial also get crushed and the watch is scrap at that point.
As with any other tool, practice on an old watch you don't mind destroying before you use it on a good watch.

  • @khronokraze

I think a time accuracy measuring app is great to know how well your watch is running. I use two to cross reference and get a good average of results. I know some dont care about accuracy.. which personally eludes me as to why not?.. but, for me, there's an extra sense of comfort and enjoyment when I have a record that is proof that the watch is running within a certain level of accuracy which is a bonus for both watch choice and ownership. Yes, I picked this watch because I really like it AND it's also running amazingly well, too! Feels so good.
I tend to want to keep more accurate timepieces on my wrist. Where as when the watch deviates more, I'd use as excuse to switch to another freshly wound and set watch vs resetting the current watch that has deviates. Going for a minimalist collection, I think it makes sense to want to keep and enjoy a watch that is accurate on wrist for longer. Wanting a large collection to constantly cycle through, the mentality is different and I get where accuracy is not as much of a factor or perk of the watch ownership.
And, perhaps a basic $100 timegrapher would be good to occassionally monitor the health of your watch. Certain readings can give u a better idea of how good or bad your watch is running so you may have better indications to take a watch into service or not. And, if you tinker with your watch or comfortable modding it, it is a good tool to make some fine adjustments if you dare. It has certainly helped me dial in a large number of automatic movements to get them into tighter tolerances for accuracy. It's not for everyone and attempt at your own risk.

You have no idea how much I appreciate that, especially in today's world, history is so important.
Thank you so much for the kind comment, it makes it worth it.
      Best regards,

I’d wish I could be on the show and review my collection with you! Seikos, Omega, Squale, Orient and Casio.

Love this video! Yes I must get some Poly Watch and Cape Cod. Maybe a Demagnetizer as well. Thanks for explaining what Poly Watch actually is and how to use it...

Molte grazie per un altro fantastico video!
    (I hope it’s correct)
I really like a good practical accessory and ‘need to have’ video. I just love that Carl Friederik!
Besides that I was just looking to buy a tool kit. I once received a free spring bar tool but seem to have misplaced it.
I’m very glad you mentioned the books (not the first time of course) because I must regrettable agree that blog sites and many TH-cam channels lack in in depth knowledge of horology. I would also suggest people to consult their local library, even if it is just to check some out before buying.
I’m not sure you mentioned it but I regularly use a microfiber cloth to clean my watch every other day as well.

Fascinating how that "beater" can also serve as a time reference. My new favorite is the far less popular Casio W-219H. A better time reference, of course, is your smart phone.

After watching your review of the Casio "Mission Impossible" watch I purchased it and I really, really, and did I mention really enjoy it. In fact, I'm going to wear it today. Excellent video.

Some great stuff, I'll have to get some CCC and Polywatch.
My WristClean kit is awesome. The "Enthusiast" covers the bases. I think it was around $30-40.

Not sure if it's a must, but a watch Winder is helpful. I stopped using mine but when I swapped watches more frequently I always had the other watch on a Winder.

I was surprised at number 1, but it makes so much sense when you think about it. I also recently polished some of my Grandpa's old watches with PolyWatch, it truly is an amazing product. Oh, and I fitted one of them with a RIOS 1931 and I'm very pleased, thanks for introducing me to this brand, TGV!
