      I’m pretty cheap but decided I needed to see the Seiko Alpinist on my wrist before it was no longer available on Amazon. I liked it when it came but felt it cost too much for me and was going to get a cheaper watch instead. Wife wouldn’t let me send it back.

    I'm learning so much from this channel. Thank you. After getting out from being homeless I bought my first watch (I never bought myself anything before). I bought a Nixon which I respect and won't ever get rid of. It marked a time period i decided to start caring about myself. Now I have my first automatic a Fortis Flieger, which i got a crazy deal on. I have to have a Seiko! I guess it will come soon.

      Got one as part of a cheap watch tool set and it was a great addition. Needed it to make multiple adjustments to a second hand automatic Seiko before I got it running accurately.

    Dude, two apps you need to know about for keeping track of watch accuracy. First one's called Watch Accuracy - you take a pic of the dial every so often and it measures over a period of time. The second one is Tickoprint - hold your phone's mic up against watch and it spits out a graph of the ticking of the movement. Wait for the plot to turn green and it'll measure the accuracy of the piece instantly.

    • @theurbangentry
      @theurbangentry  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fantastic, I will check them out?
      Are they free per chance?
      Thank you,

      TGV

    • @DanboShaw
      @DanboShaw 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I second the recommendation for Tickoprint. I prefer it to Watch Accuracy because I can use Tickoprint while regulating my watch to check accuracy on the spot, instead of having to wait several hours to get a reliable measurement.

    • @heminder
      @heminder 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. Tickoprint has a paid version with some extra features like beat error, amplitude measurement, etc, but the basic one is gratis and does a good job.

      Watch band block is important to size bracelets, especially with pin or pin and collar systems, though I still use it for screw bracelet sizing. A watch case holder is useful to remove the caseback whether to replace Quartz batteries, regulate mechanicals or verify the authenticity of the movement and watch.

    I just want to add for free you can order some really nice catalogs from watch manufacturers, they are pretty much small books and beautifully put together and provide information about the brand as well. Just check out their websites, I think I have a Junghans one, JLC and a few others. They will even send them international to you.

    If you are going to be changing straps a lot and need to be flipping the watch over onto the crystal, you should probably have a very soft and thick padded cloth, One which also won't let the watch slide around while you are working on it. Keep it with your tools and only use for that purpose. BTW, that's a very well crafted and top shelf intro . . nicely done, TGV!

    Thanks TGV for another enjoyable installment. I thought of another tool I've found very useful, you might have already mention it or another fan suggestion but how about Vernier Caliper micrometer. As I'm expanding my collection and putting your style tips to good use I find I need to check and double check the case dimensions of the pieces in my collection. I'm also car guy and a mechanic friend once told me I needed good "calipers" in my toolbox. Machinist grade can be expensive but a lot hobbies also call for precision measurements that don't need to be Cal Tech or NASA grade.

    Although my blu-ray player rejected the public library's old DVD copy of "Longitude" on the eve of the arrival of my first automatic (SNK809 Seiko 5). I have found a fuzzy yet interesting stream copy on youtube #DearestMother

    Hello Urban Gentry, Do you just promote Watchbox exclusively? Do you ever look at independent personally designed watch companies? Example, like verdure_watches.com They look elegant for evening wear.

    I have recently invested in Bergeon spring bar tools, I got the 6767-F (fine for small openings in metal bracelets) and the 6767-S (standard, flatter and wider for tight fitting leather straps). I also ordered a spring bar plier set, which if the Chinese knock off version of the bergeon tool I ordered is any good, should be a godsend! Having the ability to remove spring bars from bracelets by depressing the spring bar on both sides at the same time, as well as replacing the bracelet in the same manner, should prove to be a time saver, not to mention it should be good for my blood pressure! Lol jk but it can be really frustrating trying to remove a bracelet at all, let alone while trying not to leave any scratch marks on the lugs. I’m not sure if it was from this, but I have a small mark on the inner top side of the left bottom lug of my SARB033, that looks like it came from a spring bar popping out and grinding against the lug, right where the brushed meets the polished “step”. I don’t really see how a spring bar could make a mark on a 316L SS case, I would think that the case material would be harder than that of spring bars, otherwise the spring bars would slowly bore out the lug holes bigger and bigger. And you can easily change spring bars so why would they be harder than case material? At any rate, the reviews on this Spring Bar Remiver Plier Tool seem to be good, and from what I can see the quality of the reversible, interchangeable tips seems to be higher than that of your dime-a-dozen Chinese spring bar tools. The fact that the tips are interchangeable, and that they provide a handful of extras means that even if the tip of a fork gets bent or broken, you can change it out. But still, it seems fishy that the Bergeon version is ~$500, while the knock off versions (there are always a bunch that are identical) are $35-$50. Fishy or not, I feel like it’s worth the gamble. The only review on the one I got was 5 stars. If I’d does work - which it should, it’s actually a pretty simple design - it will be well worth the price paid for the convenience. And if it doesn’t? Oh well, I still have top quality Bergeon spring bar tools (but the boring, non-plier, one side at a time kind) in the mail as well that surely will be more than sufficient for my strap changing needs. Has anyone had any experience with the knock off spring bar plier tools? TGV? Anyone? I can’t be alone in this curiosity!?

    Use time.is as a reference device if you don't want to buy something. Great and easy to use website that just shows you the gosh darn time updated from atomic clocks.

    My beater watch is invicta 300m diver (forgot the exact name). Seiko automatic movement, water resistance up to 300m, robust, and cheap. Costed $110, highly recommend it for everyday task where you don't want to risk damaging your higher end watch.

    Hello everyone, I really like the Seiko sna413, but can't find it, If this watch got discontinued, I am wondering if there are any good quality watches that look like/ perform like the sna413 or sna411. Thank you!

    My watch collection is small but im appreciative of it. I have 4 G-Shock watches i rotate for daily wear, they are nice and tough and i dont need to stress about knocking them or wetting them. 1 of my G-shock is classy though its all black with gold dials and a gold face. Then i have my 9k gold watch i wear for dressier outfits and when ill be less likely to scuff it up. My dream watch is a Rolex Presidential but its currently around $22,000USD so when i say dream i mean dream 😂

    Watch winder devices today are s must for anyone who uses automatics. You couldn't be more correct. Great show Horology cant be more exciting thanks to you tube. One question I have have you ever read any of George Daniels books. If not you should it is a plethora of knowledge.

    Great videos. I appreciate the great work. You mentioned you need a reference piece in your collection. I’d like to mention the most simple is the iPhone. Or even the Apple Watch. For the iPhone, put the clock widget on the desktop that shows the second hand. Both are coordinated with the atomic clocks.

    I have an auto repair shop, got a cheap casio a158w for my beater. Reaching in engine bays all day long and you feel naked without a watch a “disposable” watch is a necessity. Its got some character to it even a bit of weld spatter but has lasted way longer then i thought it would, i have another brand new in the box at my apartment as a back up. My seiko5 snk789 goes on my wrist when i leave the shop. I got some old and new tissot’s and other old swiss eastern europe watches i have for days off/vacation/nice nights out, enjoy the channel man!
