The weirdest thing about this set is Muteace LETS Acola mine for the majority of these games. Acola also has diamonds for most of the set, yet still somehow manages to have no materials and tools by the end. Very strange compared to your typical steve match up.
the correct way to play depending on character. Sure he gets more tools and strength when he mines but you can still play around his tools and outplay him if he kills you earlier. You just eat damage when you try to stop him from mining and lose neutral. When youre not ZSS, Sonic etc and can just run him down or Cloud, etc and attack through walls easily, then just let steve mine and wait for them to start the neutral.
He's like : "Yeah, go ahead and mine. Give me some challenge.'"
MuteAce breaks the walls safely with moves like float drift back fair and side B, giving Acola less time to mine before feeling threatened. He then plays neutral very patiently with the goal of waiting for Acola to waste his materials while throwing out as little moves of his own as possible before striking back. This lets Mute see Acola cards without exposing too many of his own first. It is the way Peach is played. There are just more steps when it comes to fighting against Steve.
He pretty much exploits Steve’s poor mid range game
You'll see that, throughout this whole set, Acola uses a *ton* of materials to cover himself, whether it be with block walls, anvils after minecarts, or whatever. Mute noticed it, obviously, as his winning strategy was based mostly on scaring Acola into spamming out all his iron and then punishing him when he's empty.
I feel like I became better at the Steve matchup watching this, Mute put on such a clinic

@weeddoodie7439 Yeah Acola got outplayed. But he was panicking so much. Thats why he rolled so much. I've noticed he only plays scared vs Spargo and Mute. If he can compose himself and figure out counter play he'll be able to beat them
Don’t get me wrong, Acola is really good and his Steve is hype at times, but most of the time, watching Steve is so lame and frustrating. Seeing him just run away, build walls, mine, then rinse and repeat til he gets Diamond and kills you in 2 interactions is no fun. So glad Mute was able to stay composed and beat him. Those roll reads were on point

Muteace is absolutely insane. Never seen anyone get so out-fundied as Acola got this set. Mute literally outplayed him in every single aspect of the game

It's interesting, usually, steve gets in a deficit at the beginning of the game, and then starts to come back at the end of the game, maybe enough to win, maybe not. Here, except for the last game, acola was leading for the majority of the game, and only lost at the last stock. I also find it interesting to compare muteace's counterplay compare to Spargo's. Spargo plays even more agressive than usual to stop acola from setting up anything, while muteace instead exploits Peach's float jump to wait, avoid acola's attacks and punish him when he exposes himself. Normally, steve players are the ones to bait and punish, but muteace consistently refused to be baited and instead was the one to bait.

Really happy to see Steve lose! :) Muteace bobbing and weaving around all of Steve’s hurt boxes was incredible! This guy is really good! Seems like Peach has some great tools for working around Steve, especially the jump float.

Also, while it seems like Peach does really well against Steve, it's still actually a very steep uphill battle for Peach. Steve out-combos, out-kill-powers, and outcheeses her. As long as Peach keeps Steve out of her bubble, she wins, but she also has to keep Steve from camping and mining by approaching, which is hard to do on a character with below average speed and a lack of safe/unreactable burst options. This makes patience a must-have for the Peach player. In this case, MuteAce fortunately both knows the Steve MU because of Yonni and is very patient/disciplined.

@Nathan Levesque Oh HELL no. I have mained Peach since the launch of Ult, and she doesn't beat Steve. It is even at best. Muteace just has tons of MU knowledge from fighting Yonni. I've stated my reasons why I think Steve wins the MU.

@Turn Tech As someone who has mained Peach since the launch of Ultimate, yes she did. Her fair was heavily nerfed. Before, her sweetspot fair was about as strong as Steve Diamond bair, which is fine in comparison, because it's slow and has a sweetspot. Now, Peach actually struggles to kill until 150-160% quite often. Additonally, Daisy's Turnips were nerfed at one point. They were better for combos, and now they are the same as Peach's. Peach and Olimar are fine. Pichu is pretty much just a counterpick character now.

Here again after SSC2023...I had to review this set again due to all the Steve superfans. My opinion hasn't changed; sorry but Steve as-is cannot continue to be justified; the tourneys that exclude him are doing the right thing. The community doesn't need another 4 Bayonetta.
