If he uses Abyssal Artillery again to clean up Pink Fish. Worst case scenario, Pink is STILL alive I have Leper to clean with another intimidate. But 90% of the time, this is his turn to setup withstand. Anti uses protect again because more likely than not Leper has two turns and she's not ready to get double teamed by fish. We gotta save her for the Siren. By turn 3 I've handled the biggest threat on the enemy team (Stress) with them getting single turn if PD outspeeds them. Your team's best case scnario is on par with my teams worst case scenario.
Purge's value is honestly just that aspect of disruption since it pushes frontliners in the worst possible spot for them and is a primer for Lep's ACC. Bralwer, Cutthroat, Bone Rabble, Bone Soldier, Bone Bulwark, Fungal Scratcher, (I'm sure I'm forgetting others, and this applies to a good number of modded enemies) are all forced to use recovery moves because of this, and it doesn't skimp on the damage unlike other abilities that move targets. So between Purge doing decent damage, setting him up for later rounds, displacing frontliners, and clearing corpses (which is a minor benefit, but hey, it's something), it brings some good overall value. While the ACC buff doesn't scale, that's fine. Neither do trinkets, and if it went up to 10 ACC it would be kind of broken since that's effectively a damaging move with utility that gives you as much ACC as a Focus Ring. At that point, you'd just give him only damage trinkets and always lead with purge (or I would anyway.)

So, a Leper build I had thought of a while ago uses Chop, Solemnity, Revenge, and Purge/Intimidate, and the team he ran with was an Abomination, an Occultist, and a Jester. The Occultist had Wyrd Reconstruction, Daemon's Pull, Vulnerability Hex, and Eldritch Artillery, while the Jester was the buffer and stress healer of the group, because the Abomination's Transform ability really starts building up that stress while it's active, so stress healing is kinda necessary. A very fun team that had some good control and damage that I highly recommend trying out on a run.
I had a leper save a run where my healer died, highwayman was bleeding at deaths doorstep and crusader was going insane in the back rank. He went virtuous, broke out of the chains the sunken crew put him in and then crushed the crew

My first hero I chose from the chariot was a leper. I instantly fell in love with his damage and hp, even at level 0. I got him all the way to level 6, with maxed everything, and even if the game told me not to keep heroes close to my heart, I just couldn't let myself lose him. To protect him from dying at all cost, I locked in a quirk that made him 10% more resistant to fatal blow. I equipped two trinket that boosted his fatal blow resistance. Even tho I should have been at 95% resistance, I think it capped at 89, or it was a bug. But I wasn't afraid of getting him in battle with his immortal loadout. The village got attacked by a bandit gang. Quest level 6, my actual first level 6 quest. I was too afraid to go into the darkest dungeon. But I prepare myself enough, and get in the bandit quest. It goes really well, until I get to bandit chief, with his bomb supply. He begins by marking my Leper with a beam... and now it will do some damage, but I had faith in my leper resistance. So I don't mind, and take my turns, until the bandit turn comes again. He drops the first bomb of the fight, which also happened to crit, and dealt 68 damage. My leper had only 70 hp. So it was basically a one shot. Before I can even play, he summons smaller bandits, that plays immediately, and one attack from him makes my Leper bleed, as well as leaving him at 0 hp. Then my leper turn starts, as he instantly dies from the bleed proc. My mind just crumbled into pieces. My very first hero I picked, I spent lot of money on equipment, unlocked and maxed all his skills, put on him all the trinkets that could have save him from fatal blow, as well as locking a quirk to make him more resistant to fatal blow. And he got obliterated in one single turn. I killed the motherfucker. And then I was shattered... I gave my leper everything so he could survive, I thought he was invincible, but a critical hit came so fast, out of nowhere... My sad story.

I got to this game so late but im glad this stuff is here because whoo boy this game has been slapping me around mainly because I do dumb things like max out the the stress facility's first lmao. Is a big help.
purge is surprisingly one of leper's strongest moves, the damage penalty is not an issue as leper monstruous damage allows him to hit as hard or harder than smite of crusader, infact both have the same accuracy too wich makes it a desirable move if you want a leper early game without acc trinkets yet, the move effect also allows to disrupt enemy formations very efectively, allowing you to make however you sent to the back basically skip a turn to do a shitty move or place backliners in an ackward position to be bullied by your other guys that couldnt reach them before, cleans corpses wich means you dont even need to crit to avoid them just killing them works, and due to all the previous stuff is more likely leper would kill with purge anyways, and on top of all that it gives 5+ accuracy wich it may not seem like much but they actually do feel, is a nice opening move to set up chop or hew to obliterate the enemies the rest of the fight, is a must have move to me for leper in non boss dungeons, in boss encounters i change it for revenge, i highly recomend it for anyone that wants to try leper but is put off by the accuracy of chop and hew.
Can you please make a video on hellion next. She's my favorite character but I'm pretty sure I'm not building my teams right around her or just building her in general
It'll be a while before I can get the hellion guide out. Some quick tips in the mean time that I can give you are: 1) Iron swan and if it bleeds should be on most builds to give her reach, then wicked hack if the enemies in the area can't bleed normally or bleed out if they can. Bleed out is incredibly powerful, don't let the debuff fool you. 2) Hellion is rather independent. You put her in rank 1 and kill stuff. Support her with stuns, use iron swan if a rank 4 enemy exists. After that work your way from the back of the enemy team to the front with her damage. 3) Use bleed out late in the fight if it isn't a boss you're mowing down. Most room or hallway fights it should be used on turns 3 and 4. For boss fights, if the boss can bleed then bleed out can wipe it out no joke in 3 turns if it gets a crit or 2. 4) Hellion wants 10-20 accuracy and she's good to go. Other nice stats for her are speed, crit, and bleed chance. Her crit buff gives her bonus damage vs bleeding targets so she has synergy with houndmaster and flagellant in that regard. 5) She's one of the most flexible classes in terms of who can party with her. She's a damage monster, so any team that helps her do that damage and protect everyone while she kills everything is fine. Hellion / Flagellant / Vestal / Houndmaster is pretty safe and easy. If you feel like you don't need vestal and are comfortable having flagellant as a primary healer you can run jester instead, or arbalest to get some synergy with mark while healing as well. Hope that can tide you over til I make a guide
@@ShuffleFM Thank you so much for the well worded and lengthy response I am forever in your debt. Still the main place I come for darkest dungeon information. I'll be waiting eagerly for that guide but in the mean time just keep up the great content!
All i know is Leper with Focus Ring is one thing, Leper without focus ring is another thing entirely. I used to not like Leper at all, because I prefer flexible/versatile and dancing party comps, but can't argue with his huge crits when he's set up for properly.
Leper may not be able to hit backline enemies but often the frontline enemies cant hit from backline so Purge and you neutralise 1 while bringing backline into melee range. As someone who likes taking battles slow with movement, stuns and heals Leper is great at inconveniencing the enemies big damage hitters (depending on the zone)
Purge build ? I call that playing baseball : have occultist pull a backliner, then purge them into the backline again. Purge solves most of his weaknesses in one move really, shoves a frontliner to the back, buffs accuracy, clear corpses, and it's a fairly high accuracy move. Also, whenever leper crits he gets buffed with accuracy, so crit is not just good for damage.
Quick draw charm is great for Hewing the hell out of a frontline. At resolve level 4 you can get 33% crit chance for the first turn, and since you hit 2 targets...
What about ROT SQUAD with 4 LEPERS? You just say something at the end of video, but no details…did you do another video about it? If yes, can you please tell me where I can find it or the name of it? Thank you for your wonderful videos
I did a team on the Farmstead today that was Man-At-Arms (with the shield that gives bonus prot in rank 4) > Vestal > Houndmaster > Leper. Used revenge, and then used MaA to guard/command Leper. Was pretty effective, except for a couple things. For instance, while the hp sustainability was great, the stress sustainability was not and the poor MaA got super close to afflicting. Also the dumb stealth horse enemy did a full party shuffle, which ended up putting the Leper into rank 4 even despite him having 100% move resist because of my trinket setup which I thought was super BS. Aside from those two things, was pretty fun. Although it was the first Apprentice level tutorial mission for the Farmstead so I'm not sure if that comp will remain viable the further I go into that questline, especially since I'm concerned about the stress management aspect of it. But yeah, MaA guard can be a way to mitigate revenge, is the point of this whole story.
@@ShuffleFM Does cry havoc get better at higher levels? I never really used it because having an RNG chance to heal less than 10 stress felt like a really bad trade. I did the second boss with a leper build crimson curse and he got a 20% damage for the dungeon so I thought "izi time" well, I had well trouble bringing him to the front cause of the wood, and had to heal with vestal, the thing is that I had a jester, that did so much battle ballad, so I thought "why not solo and then finale", well, he critted for 70 damage, so that was nice, leper was carring the team before though
Those who cry about leper should also call crusader sh*t then cause he cant reach back line. His skill can if u place him at pos 3 but a dedicated dmg dealer of pos 3 out shines him. Leper does his job in dis game, shield breaker too. Can use them in any dungeon
I actually like running focus ring and then beserk mask with my leper then taking a jester for ballad and usually he goes first hits for like 20 damage then I use ballad and he hits for 45 crit so all and all I really really enjoy playing with leper becuase he hits hard harder then an able body person
I don't like intimidate, it locks you to position 1 (something I prefer to let for hellion for example, or a post-lunge graverobber), and I find it a narrow move. Meanwhile, I think leper is one of the strongest front line classes of the game.
So i've been using a trincket that makes him heal a little more and last will testament, and now I got the tin flute, just for the acc that they give, I suppose that they are considered good at least thats what I think
Going through your videos after a couple years without touching DD and man, some heroes get so much shit because they don't do everything in the game, Leper with accuracy and backline damage, Grave Robber for being squishy and so on Team-building games is supposed to have you build it as a team, you have literally 3 other slots to accomodate Leper's ridiculous damage with shuffling corrections (Dirk Stab/Finale, GR with stealth and lunge, antiquarians move that make her go back) and things like battle ballad to fix his accuracy while you can practically forget about dealing with the frontline BECAUSE you have Leper

Usually my anti teams are some derivation of anti and a damage dealer and in the backline and a riposte bot and occultist in the frontline. In the early give occultist his cauldron and a tank charm and he usually is just fine as most enemies will funnel damage into the riposte bot.
@@hehexd2348 Lemme just run a really common cove room battle for you.
C. Lep/Shield Fish/ C Lep./ Pink Fish
Turn one
PD Stuns, denying Stress and Pulls from the backline.
Occ Tentacles doing at least 40% of the Pink fishes health and pinning some okay damage on the Back Cove Leper.
Anti Protecc
Leper uses intimidated to do a little bit of damage to the Pink fish, but more importantly debuffs their speed, to assure they don't get another turn.
The enemies do their thing.
At the start of round 2 if the Shield fish shields, then Blinding gas again. If not Plague Grenade. Lets assume Pibk fish lives.
Next up Occultist.
On top of that, the second biggest threat (someone getting pulled out of rank by Spearfishing) is dying or possibly dead.
Leper has probably take some damage, but we can heal that back up while we work on the front line.
@Hehe XD Now let's run the same scenario with your team. My goal is to assure Pink fish doesnt get a single turn.
PD - Stuns Backline.
Anti - Lets say your anti goes before your Occ. Uses her destealth move,
Occ - Pulls Pink Fish.
Leper Kills pink fish with chop or hew.
So far, your team has taken 2 seaward slashes with zero defensive buffs (possibly with your squishy Occultist) as a target and has no speed buff. While my team has taken the 2 slashes with a minor prot/dodge buff AND has speed buff, and still has to clean up rank 3 at full health.
In THIS fight, and most other fights with Pink fish. Your team's best case scnario is on par with my teams worst case scenario.
Your videos have helped me a lot in my playthrough. I appreciate the thorough analysis you do.
THE KING IS HERE
Purge's value is honestly just that aspect of disruption since it pushes frontliners in the worst possible spot for them and is a primer for Lep's ACC.
Favorite class in the game, easily the one of the strongest classes with the right trinkets.
This video made me give another chance to the Leper, thanks Shuffle, keep up the great work!

I really dont like leper, but I love him with a crusader in 2, man at arms in 3 and vestal in 4. It's always been a very fun way to run him.
I brought a leper to fight the swine god and I got 3 back to back 56 damage crits. It was beautiful
One of the few heros who can run Ethereal Crucifix without having to worry about the -max hp penalty.
Edit: Immunity Mask is best used against bosses that can stun, especially if you're doing intimidate shenanigans.
I got the game on sale on steam. I've consumed an unhealthy amount of your content. I appreciate it. 👌🏿
I dont like how filthyrobots "how good is the leper" is based off a self imposed challenge and people use that video to discredit leper as a whole. Ty for making this much needed video.
It's not wrong though.
@@CrowsRevenge1 Its outdated. (pre color of madness) He needs to update his video otherwise dont take it as facts.
@@joebizs Everything is still very relevant when it comes to the Leper. The toon still has the exact same issues. Low ACC, inability to hit ranks 3 and 4, and needing multiple other items and characters to make him viable where as you could just use other toons that can directly damage etc. Some things are outdated yes but the first most part, most of those videos are still relevant. Especially on the leper, The color of madness did nothing to make the leper better or address his weaknesses. Granted the leper is actually good in Endless but thats about it.
@@CrowsRevenge1 I think this video did a good job at covering his strengths, never said he didn't have those problems but he did get better after that video. Js he goes a little to hard on him because of torchless.
@@joebizs He really didn't. As far as I know he didnt get some good acc buff and he still has zero movement if shuffled, and still isnt able to hit the enemies you need hit. If your not playing in torchless, sure its not that big of a deal. But in the Hardest content, as Filthy always stated he was coming from, his content is still as relevant as the day he released it as leper never got a overhaul.
I will admit leveling a single leper for endless isn't bad as thats always at full light etc. but for the actual DD content, Filthies content still isnt wrong or outdated here.
A good purge team is the wall; Vestal, Man at Arms, Crusader, Leper. get all the prot then just annihilate the front line.
Leper is the definition of " just because it's simple doesn't make it any less effective"
11:50 is fake news btw. easy mistake to make but the protection actually starts at 20% at rank 1. still not exactly the most important thing to be spending your gold upgrading but it's worth bearing in mind.
You're right, it was the resists that don't scale.
Can't hit backline targets when the frontline targets are already dead and there is no backline!
Leper is love. Leper is life.
Happens to all of us :(
@@ShuffleFM I forgot to thank you for the guide. It is really helpful, and it helped me understand a bit more how the leper works. When I read the description of the leper, it said that he hits hard, but also needs a turn to concentrate. So I thought it was a gimmick where you need to alternate between a hit and a heal, to guarantee crazy damage on 2nd turn. No need to say I was wrong lol, since it's only based off precision. Thanks again for the video ! Really clean, really concise, liked it a lot :)
Same I always get attached to my chars especially lepers. He's had the final blow on the heart of darkness in all my runs. Feels fitting since he's the only character who really feels like the true hero of DD.
Intimidate coupled with occ weakening curse to reduce damage can make certain bosses utterly useless against you. DOT can be cancelled if need be with PD and use jester to buff your team to enable Leper big chops. Oh and don't forget to use emboldening vapours for extra insane damage. This combo is really really fun to play and can make enemies especially bigger ones and bosses hit for constant zero's
One time I had a leper with 50% crit chance. Man at arms+ trinkets= more chance to crit than to not crit.
I got to this game so late but im glad this stuff is here because whoo boy this game has been slapping me around mainly because I do dumb things like max out the the stress facility's first lmao. Is a big help.

You said about trinkets but what about Jester's "Battle ballad"?
@@janzacharski2485 or maybe man at arm's command, or... agh, his accuracy buff
purge is surprisingly one of leper's strongest moves, the damage penalty is not an issue as leper monstruous damage allows him to hit as hard or harder than smite of crusader, infact both have the same accuracy too wich makes it a desirable move if you want a leper early game without acc trinkets yet, the move effect also allows to disrupt enemy formations very efectively, allowing you to make however you sent to the back basically skip a turn to do a shitty move or place backliners in an ackward position to be bullied by your other guys that couldnt reach them before, cleans corpses wich means you dont even need to crit to avoid them just killing them works, and due to all the previous stuff is more likely leper would kill with purge anyways, and on top of all that it gives 5+ accuracy wich it may not seem like much but they actually do feel, is a nice opening move to set up chop or hew to obliterate the enemies the rest of the fight, is a must have move to me for leper in non boss dungeons, in boss encounters i change it for revenge, i highly recomend it for anyone that wants to try leper but is put off by the accuracy of chop and hew.
Can we take a moment to point out man has 700k gold
Can you please make a video on hellion next. She's my favorite character but I'm pretty sure I'm not building my teams right around her or just building her in general
It'll be a while before I can get the hellion guide out. Some quick tips in the mean time that I can give you are:
1) Iron swan and if it bleeds should be on most builds to give her reach, then wicked hack if the enemies in the area can't bleed normally or bleed out if they can.
I’m hyped I rolled slugger on my level 0 leper
If the highest accuracy it can have is 95 You know he strong AF to compensate
@6:35 Why did you not turn off the light for better loot? :D
What's up yall, it's Shmeckle, don't mind my cats Reverb and Highnote

Petrified Amulet cost me a Clotter Leper with Flagellant backup. He bled out even with Flesh's Heart...
Quick draw charm is great for Hewing the hell out of a frontline.
At resolve level 4 you can get 33% crit chance for the first turn, and since you hit 2 targets...
Thank you!
It's pretty nice when you run leper/occult and turn 2 the rank 3-4 boss has over -80percent damage...
If leper really needs to focus on healing just take off the mask for a hallway fight
wow, this is great! I wasn't a fan of Leper before but now I'm looking forward to trying him out, especially Intimidate. Thanks for the info!
Glad you changed your mind, especially intimidate. That move is nuts
We at the Jacob's corporation believe that all the accuracy In the world don't mean a great deal if you don't got the power to back it up
I had a hippocratic leper and trinket that gave him 40% more healing. 2 turns and he regained 32 hp, with 16 hp each turn.
What about ROT SQUAD with 4 LEPERS? You just say something at the end of video, but no details…did you do another video about it? If yes, can you please tell me where I can find it or the name of it? Thank you for your wonderful videos
It's a meme team that sucks so I just made it a joke :P
Ok! Thank you!!!
Sounds fun. Stress is the biggest issue in farmstead, so maybe try that team with MAA in 2 and HM in 3 to spam cry havoc.
@@ShuffleFM Does cry havoc get better at higher levels? I never really used it because having an RNG chance to heal less than 10 stress felt like a really bad trade. Then again, the game has refused to give me a Jester yet despite being like 12 weeks in on my current run so I am kinda desperate at this point for some sort of stress healing skill.
@@TheValiantBob The chance scales up with skill ranks. 74% chance at max is good enough. Stacking dodge on the team helps with HM to get more stress heals out without taking more stress in return.
i find it funny reading in the wiki about "preferred heroes" for courtyard bosses not a single one promotes leper but i finished all 3 bosses using leper at pos 1
Wiki is hit and miss on stuff. The data is incredible but some of the strategic stuff isn't great
I did the second boss with a leper build crimson curse and he got a 20% damage for the dungeon so I thought "izi time" well, I had well trouble bringing him to the front cause of the wood, and had to heal with vestal, the thing is that I had a jester, that did so much battle ballad, so I thought "why not solo and then finale", well, he critted for 70 damage, so that was nice, leper was carring the team before though
Those who cry about leper should also call crusader sh*t then cause he cant reach back line. His skill can if u place him at pos 3 but a dedicated dmg dealer of pos 3 out shines him.
Leper does his job in dis game, shield breaker too. Can use them in any dungeon
I actually like running focus ring and then beserk mask with my leper then taking a jester for ballad and usually he goes first hits for like 20 damage then I use ballad and he hits for 45 crit so all and all I really really enjoy playing with leper becuase he hits hard harder then an able body person
my lepper killed a prophet by destroying everything until the boss was at the front line.

I don't like intimidate, it locks you to position 1 (something I prefer to let for hellion for example, or a post-lunge graverobber), and I find it a narrow move. Meanwhile, I think leper is one of the strongest front line classes of the game.

Haha Chop goes brr: The Guide
Going through your videos after a couple years without touching DD and man, some heroes get so much shit because they don't do everything in the game, Leper with accuracy and backline damage, Grave Robber for being squishy and so on
Team-building games is supposed to have you build it as a team, you have literally 3 other slots to accomodate Leper's ridiculous damage with shuffling corrections (Dirk Stab/Finale, GR with stealth and lunge, antiquarians move that make her go back) and things like battle ballad to fix his accuracy while you can practically forget about dealing with the frontline BECAUSE you have Leper
Excellent point
