I love how the Anti's trinkets are some of the best in the game in terms of pure numbers and yet they're completely wasted on her crappy base stats. I mean, the Carapace Idol is literally the Barristan's Head with no downsides. The Candle of Life with +50% healing skills? Vestal would kill for that.
This class in general is one of my favourite as far as making sense of the numbers character-wise. Why are her stats so bad? Well, she's a flippin antiquarian, tf are you expecting. Why are her trinkets so strong? She's an antiquarian, trinkets are what she *does*
I don't know if you mentioned it but Antiquarian is a necessary part of the most broken strategy in the game that can effortlessly defeat the hardest boss in the game, the Countess. You bring 2 antiquarians, a man-at-arms, one or two cosmic dust to refresh the man at arms ability and a crusader for stress and normal heals. Antiquarians are on full time invigorating vapor duties. That alone is 60 dodge to your entire party. You wear dodge trinkets for a total of 30 more dodge up to 90. You can get your crusaders dodge to 30 with a dodge quirk, making 120 dodge. You get the man-at-arms to hit Bolster as many times as you need to cap dodge against the abilities. There you go, any difficult boss instantly made trivial with antiquarian. Doesn't work on undodgable attacks or timed events since you're doing next to no damage. Normal combat is kind of weird because you want to do recovery while there's 3+ monsters on board so you don't time out using too many recovery actions. Also bring mods that speed up combat. Combat is slow. But it's singly handed the most broken mechanic in the game. I think there's a 5% chance a monster will hit regardless of dodge (not sure) but to put it into context that's 1 in 20 times an attack occurs, it will land. Also normal monsters don't have nearly as much accuracy as the countess so you don't need any cosmic shard shenanigans against normal mobs. You definitely mentioned dodge but because dodge scales linearly, the effect each additional point of dodge exponentially increased the damage mitigation you receive. And unlike gimped stats like prot, this includes mitigation of dots and stress.
I avoid boss specific spoilers in these guides because of the new players who watch them, but dodge spam is a good strat for countess. I think heavy boots + guarding leper to avoid love letter is the better strat now though, it's very consistent and gets set up on turn 1. Plus it ends the fight faster.
The Antiquarian might be my favourite of the official classes. A very diverse and varied skill set, some wonderful camping skills, a distinct look, a good story that is reflected in her equipment and her mechanics, and a unique out of combat ability that is frankly a bit too amazing. Not to mention a key, I like having a free key. Can never go wrong with the key. Partially related, the Buried is by far my favourite class if you include modded classes. It is similar in how well designed and how well the mechanics reflects the lore and personality of the character. I can strongly recommend it.
I have to say that even now on a third playthrough I struggle to appreciate the value of her camp skills aside from resupply and scourge. The stress reduction skill is just for her, less exploitable when you know how to avoid and manage stress in-fight, and the buff resist one is just for one unit as well, roughly equivalent to using holy water. Sure it's cheap, but maybe not as economic keeping in mind you have 3 other units to camp skill with.
One strange quirk about the Antiques you can find with her is that.. Common Antiques are worth more than the Rare Antiques. Common Antiques, worth 500 gold each and stack to 20. So a full stack is worth 10k, and you're more likely to find them. Rare Antiques, worth 1250 each and stack to 5. So a full stack is worth 6k and you're less likely to find them. The exact ratio is 1:6. When you consider that Antiques are generated whenever she interacts with literally all lootable curios, plus any battle she just exists in. The game pretty much vomits Common Antiques at you.

The antiquarian protect me plus riposte synergy is kick ass, that alone makes up for her lack of damage to a large degree while improving the survivability of the party. Where does it say that antiquarian earns you more money from curious? I mean I feel the effect but I don't find it anywhere where it says it. Does other characters have other passive too?
I keep 5 antiquarium in my roster and she's part of my strongest team setup that i use to go in dd4 blind and part of my first champion dungeon team, she's definitely underrated in everything except for dark run where she become abit less good but still great.
I love Antiquarian. Currently experimenting with Grave Robber, and I see great synergy there. Mostly a riposte based team since grave robbers stealth makes riposte more likely to be triggered: Antiquarian, highwayman, manatarms, Grave Robber. The flagellant, AQ combo carried me to and through the darkest dungeon though
The thing with antiquarian isn't that she is horrible but she needs very specific team mates to make her shine. Character with already high dodge so her dodge buff is actually impactful, Highwayman is almost mandatory for her own DPS as she doubles up on the riposte (alternatively a man at arm's although the riposte of highwayman is more powerful), you can boost her heal to be somewhat an ok back up healer. Usually I bring her with a Graverobber, Highwayman and Occultist. In the end, they're not bad but it's probably the most gimmicky class in the game.
you can tell a lot about a player based on their reaction to the antiquarian a lot of scrubs act like it's playing a 3 player team in exchange for more treasure, and that couldn't be further from the truth
honestly i did try Antiquarian only for the Money making at first, but I ended up enjoying her kit way more than i expected. Also on 3rd run she gave me a Legendary Bracer from camp which was surprising
@@qFamop doing a blight comp for ruins/cove? she's an excellent frontline blighter if you haven't gotten non-eucludian hilt yet doing a dodge comp? just spam invigorating vapors, no one can hit you after 3 or so turns working with riposte and/or low-health flagellant? protect me will double the hits on your riposters or flagellant vestal destressing but you're not confident with your available healers? slot her in for a buff, even her little heal raises bleed resist and can make occultist a little less scary to use the little heal's bleed resist also works on the flagellant's self-bleed move she's great

I really hated the antiquarian and thought it was uselesss but man highway man and man at arms with to antiquarian and riposte was broken no need to heal more than with foos bc the prot was to good and the evade help to. Prot buffs are great
Bleed out advice helped me vs Baron last night. Had a Vestal Jester Highwayman (or Shieldbreaker, my memory escapes me) Hellion team. I actually forgot to equip one more trinket on Hellion and stumbled upon a common Bleed trinket (10% bleed) that may or may not helped with the bleed. Holy crap was that fight a slog. Did not help that my Vestal was already afflicted before we went in and I could not camp because they kept touching EVERY SINGLE winemaker's reserve along the way as well as EVERY SINGLE stressing item to boot.
Flash powder is the biggest bait move in the game. I s2g I use this thing on enemies and 75% of the time they still hit through it on dodge comps. I watch this video to see if I’m just using her wrong. No, rng just hates me xD
What is the reason why you did not put a Section in your characters guide in the TEAMS section, where you clearly talk about where they can play the best with your wide experience playing this game?…wonderful video, as usual! Keep up the good work!
Y'know, I thought she'd be targeted like crazy by the siren, but no. Apparently I'm the anomaly. 😢 lowest debuff resist and the siren targets my graverobber instead... unless I calculated wrong? Either way, the high dodge of my Grave Robber saved me.
@@ShuffleFM Honestly, it went pretty smoothly up until about 50 something weeks in and I had an absolutely INFURIATING mission. I've seen and had worse results (like dead heroes and party wipes, etc), but never had one so frustrating
I know you love flash powder and despise vapors but vapors is 400% better. Flash powder is -15 and stacks twice for -30 while vapors is +10 dodge an stacks 3 times for +30 as well, but effects the whole team not just 1. 4 is 400% more than 1. Math. ;) And yes I know what you will say - "This is true only if you spam vapors every turn. And with flash powder you can do other things like heal and activate guard and trow damage." True but if your whole team is almost never hit you don;t need to heal and you don't need guard and your team has all the time in the world to kill the enemy and stall for as long as they like to heal and stress heal and always be full HP and no stress. But hey that is just my opinion from running her every time in apprentice dungeons at levels where vapors are less effective than at end game and flash powder is supposedly better.
Would it be wise to bring a COM Antiquarian to the Endless Harvest? If they take 10% of shards, does that mean you can use her for a 5% bonus? Obviously it'd be pointless if you had a lvl 6 Antiquarian of your own and I can't imagine taking TWO of them.
Anti actually does pretty well there. The 2 best archetypes for endless are jestal and dodge, which Anti helps for the latter. She can also get extra provisions which is incredibly helpful. Thick took 4 antiquarians to ~5k kills, so don't sleep on her :)
@@ShuffleFM Yeah, I actually watched that right after I posted this. I tried it after that with 2 of them, a riposting hwm and a crusader, but that wasn't a very good idea because I couldn't get my dodge high enough to make up for a lack of healer so I backed out pretty quick.
I'll be the first to admit that I usually only bring anti because I feel like I need to to make money in the game. Maybe it's time I start looking at her differently haha
My problem with the combat upsides to Antiquarian is that they are centered around "she is so bad you wont feel bad about wasting her stuff" The trinket swap stuff, for example. You could do it with ANY character, but other characters have proper good trinkets that make so much of a difference that you cant afford not to bring them. Same with setting up Man at Arms. You could save him a turn by using her prot ability, or you could use the action economy to just kill someone or set something else up. Dont get me wrong, i think the Antiquarian is the mos overlooked mid game character. The amount of gold she brings in makes her the character i want to see the most on my roster, but her combat upsides oftenly sound like coping
well, she's either worst character or strongest character. in dd1, its easier to kill-rush enemies when damage is super high in most cases than it is stall high threats and she specialize in stalling which is really worthless in most cases since most of the time, just adding more healing is smarter way to stall and most of stalling in this game stunned based because stuns are higher tempo than raising dodge. this put dodge as weird mechanic in the game because it makes healing "more effective" the more dodge you have as the more time passes, less time you get hit, so healing sticks more. strong aspect of her is that on lower difficulty like radiant, even though you can win the game in 1000 weeks or 100 weeks, playing her really reduces farming and grinding of the game by a lot. on higher difficulty, there is time limit and extra resources are really important to optimizing your weeks. The team I liked running with her was Antiquarian, Vestal, Highwayman, Manatarms. its more simple composition to play than shuffle comp riposte comp. manatarm just puts bolster on turn 1 and than spams crush or rampant for rest of turns highwayman uses duelist advance than spams wicked slice for rest of the turns vestal stuns on turn 1, group heal on rest of the turns Antiquarian puts protect me on highwayman, spams invigorating vapor on rest of the turns. you'll make tons of money, always be at full health by end of the fight and you have 1-3 rank reach on enemy squad. just be careful of stress.

She works extremely well for the siren as well, since her low debuff resist makes her a high priority target for the mind control attack.
didn't even think of that, put her in the front and suffer practically zero damage, smart as hell
Mostly a riposte based team since grave robbers stealth makes riposte more likely to be triggered:
Antiquarian, highwayman, manatarms, Grave Robber.
The flagellant, AQ combo carried me to and through the darkest dungeon though
Thank you for this guide!
I just got her to leave six for the first time.
In the end, they're not bad but it's probably the most gimmicky class in the game.
these are some good mouth sounds for listening to in the background thank you very much
Not for a fight, but for an adventure.
"Thick veiny sausage is VERY BIG on Antiquarian"
This is the best guide so far!!!
I love the teams!!
That scoundrels team is amazing
you can tell a lot about a player based on their reaction to the antiquarian
a lot of scrubs act like it's playing a 3 player team in exchange for more treasure, and that couldn't be further from the truth
honestly i did try Antiquarian only for the Money making at first, but I ended up enjoying her kit way more than i expected. Also on 3rd run she gave me a Legendary Bracer from camp which was surprising
@@qFamop
doing a blight comp for ruins/cove? she's an excellent frontline blighter if you haven't gotten non-eucludian hilt yet
doing a dodge comp? just spam invigorating vapors, no one can hit you after 3 or so turns
working with riposte and/or low-health flagellant? protect me will double the hits on your riposters or flagellant
vestal destressing but you're not confident with your available healers? slot her in for a buff, even her little heal raises bleed resist and can make occultist a little less scary to use
the little heal's bleed resist also works on the flagellant's self-bleed move
she's great
@@whyisdiscostevetaken i ended up with Antiq 4th, abomination 3rd vestal 2nd with idk whatsits called scroll with healing and protection for 2nd position and a Hellion in front for raw dps / 4th position hits. It is kinda slow to play but overall it felt pretty good, Especially since last 3 runs i got bamboozled by lack of healing for deaths door.
I really hated the antiquarian and thought it was uselesss but man highway man and man at arms with to antiquarian and riposte was broken no need to heal more than with foos bc the prot was to good and the evade help to. Prot buffs are great
Antiquarian with Dismas's Head & another damage trinket commits surprisingly effective carnage.
I never used Invigorating Vapours because I always thought it was single-target, it seemed so worthless because of that.
No, rng just hates me xD
the melee bandits on champion are super dangerous for front anti since they cleave the front 2 units
What is the reason why you did not put a Section in your characters guide in the TEAMS section, where you clearly talk about where they can play the best with your wide experience playing this game?…wonderful video, as usual! Keep up the good work!
Lots of great info and ideas in this guide. Thanks! 🙂🥦🦖
71 roster size wow
Flashpowder has only 2 turns duration unlike normal 3 turns debuffs
Y'know, I thought she'd be targeted like crazy by the siren, but no. Apparently I'm the anomaly. 😢 lowest debuff resist and the siren targets my graverobber instead... unless I calculated wrong? Either way, the high dodge of my Grave Robber saved me.
A couple years ago I finally did a Stygian run. I'm not even sure it's possible to do without consistently running an Antiquarian
Congrats! Stygian is a tough one.
@@ShuffleFM Honestly, it went pretty smoothly up until about 50 something weeks in and I had an absolutely INFURIATING mission. I've seen and had worse results (like dead heroes and party wipes, etc), but never had one so frustrating
I think the commons and Uncommons have a rusty white border and a white border respectively
You mean very common and common, because uncommon tier is green, but yeah you're right.
@@ng.tr.s.p.1254 oh ? So theres common and trash common , common trash , got it
Think of it like unstackable emerald xD
43:13 And the man of the Shuffle heard the words of the prophet, and there was much rejoicing
Hey man I love your guides, really helpful. Can you do something similar with Iratus? That would be cool - anyways, keep up the good work, cheers :)
I would love to do some Iratus content. Hopefully soon
I know you love flash powder and despise vapors but vapors is 400% better. Flash powder is -15 and stacks twice for -30 while vapors is +10 dodge an stacks 3 times for +30 as well, but effects the whole team not just 1. 4 is 400% more than 1. Math. ;)
And yes I know what you will say - "This is true only if you spam vapors every turn.
I didn't know what she was for until i started hauling in mountains of money because of her
You can’t scuff the Shuff
I have noticed one of your jesters name was Turili... is that Luca Turilli reference? If so kudos to you.
It is :)
@@ShuffleFM Thats awesome man good taste :)
She is my favourite plus the occultist in the last missions
Anti has some great use in the endgame, good choice
Antiquarian is not our Hero anymore QQ
How to install your fog machine
Maybe it's time I start looking at her differently haha
a man named thick veiny sausage, and he's very big...
.....................on Antiquarian.
I was struggling with money, but now I’m over 100k. Maybe this guide was on to something.
I'll always have a place in my heart for my money-making waifu. Also your E-Girl anti made me cackle 😂😂
This guy really made a 1 hour video on the most useless hero... marks for dedication
Ah yes, the traitor
I only use her to grind for gold. That’s it
71 heroes? how?
Roster increase mod :)
@@ShuffleFM hahh :D beautiful!
My problem with the combat upsides to Antiquarian is that they are centered around "she is so bad you wont feel bad about wasting her stuff"
The trinket swap stuff, for example.
The team I liked running with her was Antiquarian, Vestal, Highwayman, Manatarms. its more simple composition to play than shuffle comp riposte comp.
manatarm just puts bolster on turn 1 and than spams crush or rampant for rest of turns
highwayman uses duelist advance than spams wicked slice for rest of the turns
vestal stuns on turn 1, group heal on rest of the turns
Antiquarian puts protect me on highwayman, spams invigorating vapor on rest of the turns.
you'll make tons of money, always be at full health by end of the fight and you have 1-3 rank reach on enemy squad. just be careful of stress.
that intro, reposte with mark, the two people next to him get mutilated. in the next game, MARK means MARK
Why does she dislike quarians?
The real question

Guide to Antiquarian: Mod her so that she's useful.
If they follow the advice in this guide she can be pretty useful without mods 😉
