    In this video I answer a question about mental hunger and if you should respond to it? Why you get this mental hunger in the first place and how to get back to intuitive eating, eating when hungry, stopping when full.

      yup! in recovery we need this constant reminder that we are not crazy and eating is ok and everything will be ok and we just need to keep going! :)

    Thank you. I needed this reassurance. I have been eating more when I am not fully hungry and it was starting to make me feel unstable, but now I feel a bit better, a bit fatter, but better.

    I've been trying to recover for over a year now but it wasent until I truly let go, that I was able to understand intuitive eating. I'm 2 months in, I came from restrictive eating. I never got to a supper low weight and I'm naturally thin. I haven't gain or lost weight but I have less bloating then when I was in a restrictive binge cycle. I love it, it's freeing. I have watched you vids for a very long time but I could believe or want to believe that it worked until I was just ready to let go. Thank you so much.

    the problem i'm facing isn't so much the "i can't feel when i'm full" but more, i'm so so full but my brain is still preocupied with food and it's having me think about food and it's like ???? how much more do you want me to eat (because i will, i'll do anything to get out of the ed mindset) for you to not give me these thoughts anymore? i'm so full from the main meal, and various snacks but my mind is still thinking about food and giving me mental hunger cues... sigh one day it'll be better

      Hi!! It’s over a year later since you wrote this comment but I am just coming across this video now. How are you? Did those feelings ever go away? I am currently on my 3rd dessert of the night because I literally can’t stop thinking about food and I don’t know what to honestly do. Can you give me advice on what helped for you. I’m so bloated and my stomach hurts so bad but why can’t I get mentally satisfied??

    • @WhyNotJanice
      @WhyNotJanice 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Allietbooboo turn up i'm not a professional (can hardly even spell the word) but,, like when the bloating became painful i would slow down the eating,, i'm in a MUCH MUCH MUCH healthier mind set now!! a year can do so much omg?? still some baby ed thoughts here and there but 98% of the time i don't think about it at all. if your mind is preoccupied with idk pudding,, let yourself have as much as you want but if the bloating gets too bad and the cravings are still there,, i used to slow down my consumption but still continue eating. unless it really got painful then i'd drink a bit of water and wait a bit,, and then eat again,,,
      not sure how much that helped or how good of advice that is but thats what helped me ♡

      @sarahbeautyfit Saraketo my mind still gives me mental hunger cues, yes! but i don't see it in a negative or bad light anymore. i see it as normal cravings? if i can't stop thinking about a certain food, i'll eat it without thinking twice about it. or i'll have something with the same texture/ingredients if i can't buy/eat it right away (sometimes i'll crave a burger from a speciic restaurant but i live far away,, so i'll just make a burger at home and see i that helps - usually it does!! ) and i dont get the mental hunger cues when i'm already full. its kinda weirdly amazing - once i'm full, i stop thinking about food? my mind doesnt care anymore? w i l d

    I'm suffering from anorexia and for me it's very hard for me to accept hunger! But in reality I'm always hungry! But I can't eat normal things and when I do eat I feel guilty!

      Leo Camacho I feel you :( But I decided to recover so I let go of all restriction and eat these "ridicilous" amounts until my body is healed. I trust this hunger will pass if I respond to it. Reading about starvation and the biological side of it really helps me. U can do it, trust your body and free yourself! :)

    Really needed this today, years later after you posted it (thank you!). I'm about 3 months into all-in (with a dietician's guidance) recovery-- no exercise, saying "yes" to any food I want- and as much of it as I want. However, I still have not regained ANY physical hunger cues-- but my food thoughts are still 24/7, constant. I hit "healthy weight" almost two months ago (just one month into all-in), and as I'm recovering from binge/restrict anorexia, exercise disorder, and orthorexia, I'm worried that my mental hunger is evolving into BED. I cannot stop eating... I'm literally CONSTANTLY full, and since I come from a history of "volume eating" (lots of dense but low calorie veggies, cauliflower rice, etc.), I'm unable to stop eating until my plate is clean... Yet, I think of food 24/7, and I keep having these episodes of where I CANNOT stop eating handfuls of granola, nuts, cereal, spoonfuls of ice cream, etc. at almost every second in addition to my meals and snacks... I'm rapidly approaching overweight territory, but I still haven't gotten my period back (the goal of my recovery), so I am not able to resume exercise or get off this meal plan. Should I STILL honor mental hunger? Is this truly not binge-eating disguised as "mental hunger" (in my case)? Sorry for the long comment, but hopefully someone can talk my worried brain down!

    I'm curious how do you learn to eat intuitove if you had a restrictive eating disorder for 10+ years? I've gone between bulimia and anorexia for a long time. I'm wanting to live a happy life now and not be so focused on numbers or hours exercising. I'm currently in recovery and I've come a long way I was just curious how you learn what your body's signals are.

    Hi Elisa. I was stuck I was stuck in Quasi recovery for over a year. But since finding you and reading your book I'e committed to full recovery. I did minimaud the first 3 weeks I'm now in my 5th week but not counting as I know i'm getting more than 2500 cals per day. But i'm still so hungry even though im eating alot. Ive gained some weight even though i was at a normal weight...I'm totally committed but yesterday was the first day i felt like i wanted to diet again. How long does it take for the hunger to start to subside?? Thank you for everything xxx

    Hi! I want to share something with you. 2 years ago I lost my period because of a wrong diet and overtraining. Now I've stopped exercising and I'm trying to listen to my body. But I've a problem.. Lately I've always been craving chocolate müsli. Once I begin eating it, I can't stop. I never feel satisfied. I don't know if it's because I've been restricting for a long time or because of chocolate which causes addiction. Have any of you ever been through this? I've never suffered from binge eating. Is that a form of binge? I don't know what to think. It happens only with müsli!

    Such a great video💕 What about eating just before going to bed? In the past I used to stop like 3 hours before but now I'm not restricting anymore. So last night I ate bread and sugary foods and couldn't sleep bc my heart was beating so fast (sugar rush?) 😣😂

    • @FollowTheIntuition
      @FollowTheIntuition  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      if you are still in the recovery phase then the eating will seem abnormal and like you shouldn't do it, for example eating so much that your heart is pounding and you cant sleep. but it is necessary to allow yourself to eat so it can go back to balance. for example, i used to overeat before going to sleep that i was all sweaty and my heart was pounding, but it wasnt a sign that i shouldnt eat it was just a sign of i need more recovery and allowing food with no restriction so my eating can go back to normal. (i used to also had rules about eating before sleep) as you said you used to not eat 3 hours before bed so its understandable if you do it now you might overeat because you are finally allowing yourself to eat whenever. hope it made sense :) so dont worry, eat whenever and over time it will normalize!
