2% isn't a target, it is a treaty commitment.
It's also the MINIMUM, not the max. We should well above 2%.
It's actually not it's a "recommendation" that being said we should absolutely be giving 2% or more.
And despite Poilievre's criticisms here, he hasn't committed to meeting it if elected.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I don't agree with 100% of everything Pierre Poilievre says, but the little bit I don't agree with, I'm more than ok with living with. Poilievre speaks his mind and is well spoken. Trudeau is an expensive liar and I'm so pissed off that we still have more than a year before an election for Trudeau to do more damage.

I will never forget the horror of seeing the Prime Minister of our country while on a trip to India, dressing his entire family in what Indians were calling, and much amused by, 'Bollywood' costumes'. He said he was not making a financial commitment before pulling out his calculator and doing the math, because canadians are sick and tired of politicians who promise to spend money without having figured out how they will pay for it.

Let's not forget promises for affordable housing for years to then be told "i'll be blunt, housing is not a governement responsibility", to then come with a "Deux Ex Machina housing plan". We don't even have to insult him, the memes write themselves.
Poilievre talked about reducing the bureaucracy, straightening the procurement process, stop pouring money abroad, and invest it in the military. Yes, it's a big vague for a plan, but his intents are clearer than just saying non-stop "we will continue to continue to step up"

He answered the question. Although he didn't commit to the 2% either, but he explains why.
Elsewhere in the conference, a reporter clearly asked him the question why he won't commit to meeting the 2% instead saying that "he will try or work towards to."
Poilievre answered in this conference that he won't make any promises he's not sure he can meet. He said that after 9 years of liberal government where the debt has been doubled, the bureaucracy is bloated and the inflation has been the worst since decades, Canada is broke and he inherited a "dumpster fire".
He said that before making any financial commitment, he wants to make sure he pulled out his calculator and ran the numers. He said that Canadians are tired of politicians who promises to spend money without having figured out how they were going to pay.
This is a solid answer, as far as I'm concerned.

I travel to the USA a lot and although most Americans are unaware of the mess Canada is in, some are. I used to feel proud that Canada didn’t have the homelessness, shootings and drug addiction and crime like the big cities in the USA. After 9 years of Trudeau, I’m appalled that our big cities are literally the same now

Hell we could start with not loosing 48% of my paycheck to gov deductions and taxes. Then taxing the remaining by 15 to 20% everytime I buy groceries or gas. Then raise housing costs from immigration and intrest rates from gov spending. It's out of control. Half the country is broke. It's going to take forever to straighten this out.

We do not need to give money. Our defense is our border partner. If they invade us, no one will stop them anyway.
NATO and the U.N have done _nothing_ to prevent conflicts that are currently underway, but they _do take money each and every year_ . Why are 40 million Canadians required to contribute to such costs at any percentage?
