    Time for Canada to have a national strike

    • @Timberland1963
      @Timberland1963 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +38

      I completely agree with that idea. Even a national truckers strike would bring this government to its knees. A week with nothing moving would cause chaos with empty shelves in grocery stores and no fuel at gas stations. We wouldn’t even have to call it a strike we could call it the truckers initiative to fight climate change and see how Trudeau reacts to that. Imagine this government trying to force truckers back to work and start pumping emissions into the air. A week long strike would shut the country down with no fuel to burn people wouldn’t be able to go to work.

    The only “housing plan” we need is an immigration moratorium for both permanent and temporary immigration. We also need to send back millions of excess temporary and permanent immigrants imported by Trudeau.
    If you actually want to lower home prices and renting costs you need to do these things:
    1) Cut immigration drastically - mass immigration has created excess demand which has placed upward pressure on prices. Mass immigration actually caused the housing crisis.
    2) Send back the huge number of "temporary foreign workers" and international students in very large numbers. This will reduce demand for rentals and bring down renting prices quickly which will help young canadians the most.
    That's what will actually help. We don't need more homes, we need far less immigration. We didn't have a housing crisis before mass immigration.

    10 years ago building development fees were about $10,000. Today, in rural Ramara, development fees and building permits are now over $30,000. This is why nobody is building new homes. I MIGHT have considered building a home here IF the fees were normal, like they are in Nova Scotia, hundreds to a few thousand dollars - normal amounts of money - but here in Ontario costs have gone crazy. You want small builders like me to build homes? Remove the startup costs (governments will quickly recoup those fees in TAXES after a home is built, going from $700/year for a vacant lot to $3000+ for a lot with a home on it - so why not let us build for free or very little? Then there is the approval for builder's loans - the government COULD have put their 10's of billions of dollars into low or no interest builder's loans so that small builders could actually build a home - instead, as Pierre has stated, they pay government employees to accomplish nothing. We need Pierre's common sense action put into place so that we can save Canada. Reduce the amount of immigrants to the amount of surplus housing built in a year - that will solve most of Canada's issues by just that one policy!

These funds go to the budget and are being spent among all things on infrastructure around new developments, so that you don't complain that your small neighborhood now has a few hundreds new multiapartment builds and suddenly the existing roads in your neighborhood can't handle new traffic. When the houses are being built, there is a lot things that municipalities have to do to make new areas livable. That takes money.

    I have 16 years of experience in construction industry. Still work a bit but few years ago I decided to leave the industry. I went back to school. It’s hard to be in the industry where nobody appreciate your work. We still have same price per square foot as we had 8 years ago. This is insane. Electricians and plumbers are doing ok but they need an actual structure to work in, right?) all I’m saying that previously if person worked in construction this person could afford to buy a home, truck, to have a family, today it is a different story. Good luck to motivate people to work hard for less.
    As a result we will have less professionals in the field, we will build less and quality will be worse.

    The state of building in Canada is laughable when they say they’re trying to speed up building to help with the housing crisis, unless you have tried it you have no idea how incompetent and greedy the government is, as they try and hit you with every speed bump that they can to delay you, not only do you have to pay a ridiculous amount to build a house, but it takes years to get the city end done, I swear the whole system is rigged to discourage people, and the landlord tenant board is the exact same way in Ontario

  • @jasonjonkerharms

    Municipalities can help resolve the housing crisis by zoning smaller 1/5 sized building lots starting at $60,000 (or 1/4 sized for $75,000, and so on - based on $300,000 mid-Vancouver Island lot prices).
    Unfortunately, renting is not a secure housing option as rents continually rise, and good standing, long-term tenants can ultimately be evicted.
    We need to construct homes that truly fit a person’s earned income instead of building $1500+ one bedroom rentals and declaring them as ‘affordable.’
    If a basic building cost of $275 per square foot is assumed, a full-time minimum wage earner (at 30-per cent debt ratio) can own their own 150 square-foot small home with a fenced yard and a single vehicle driveway for 60 per cent less than the cost of an average basement rental suite. A $25-per-hour earner can own a 320 square-foot home, and so on.

    Getting Government out of the way is a start. However I teach Trades, Carpentry at a University. We are in critical shortages across Canada of skilled trades people...period. These "false" announcements will not change that. To say "We" are going to build housing is smoke and mirrors for the electorate. You cannot build them any faster, or more of them without trades. Like their Carbon emission goals, all falsehoods and propaganda. Now with all the increased costs, across the board ,the material costs soar, as does the labor costs, because the actual workers require better pay just to survive. What happens then? well the cost of housing increases. When I hear government "subsidies" that means more of my tax dollars are going towards someone else's housing, when I myself can't afford my own. For the love a Peter, Paul AND Mary!!! Can no one see the circular issues here?!!
